    Pearson was a clutch as "Captain Comeback" Roger Staubach. When the chips were down... You could count on Pearson stepping up, elevating his game, making the plays that had to be made. He dug the Cowboys out of many holes. I have not forgotten the Original number 88 and all the things he did for the Cowboys.. and the NFL. The gratitude of the NFL was long overdue.

    First of all, I am a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. But I have always come to admire, and respect Drew Pearson. His story of overcoming the odds and showing the perseverance to push himself is so touching. God bless you, Drew. Well deserving of your enshrinement.

    For a long time, TOO LONG, Drew Pearson was one of the biggest HOF omissions ever.
    Thank God he finally got in while still alive to experience it. Another one who's still waiting is Lester Hayes.

    I had the ultimate honor of meeting Drew Pearson in El Paso, Tx while stationed at Fort Bliss, Tx. I was on Staff Duty and I went to Cielo Vista Mall, he was sitting down and as I’m walking up to him extending my hand to shake his hand and I say to him “From one America’s Team to another.” He smile and he told me “make sure you keep winning.” Now he may not remember it, but it’s that I’ll never forget it.

    I never understood why it took so damn long to induct Drew Pearson into the Hall of Fame???
    I think it was BECAUSE he played for the Cowboys!
    Drew was making clutch catches and winning games when today's "stars" where yet to be born.
    And he was always ignored!
    Why?
    I watched Drew Pearson win a Superbowl when I was still a kid in junior high school. He put it all on the field, and never let me down!
    Drew was and is among the greatest to ever play the game!
    Thank you for the memories Mr. Pearson!
    You were the best before we knew what the "best" meant.
    I'm so happy for you!❤😊

    Most people know that life is not easy. Most of us know that life is not fair and most of us adjust and adapt and Mr. Pearson is a prime example of someone that is a survivor. Good man, deserving of the HOF but in my humble opinion his entry was delayed because life is hard and not always fair and Mr. Pearson was patient. Good for him and GOD Bless!!!!

    I'm more excited for Drew getting his own Football Life Doc than I was hearing him finally get in the HOF. In some ways he may have been more beloved by all fans as the universally known best NFL Player not in the HOF. But this works too. These Football Life docs are so well done. They will make you like a player you hate. I already love Drew. I can't get enough of him in interviews. He is always so funny and true.

    Its always amazing to me to see the families men and women build together. Its a beautiful thing, man. From the introduction to the courtship, to the first pregnancy and child, to the first grandkid, and eventually a house full of kids and grandkids on thanksgiving and christmas when those 2 folks that started it all are old and gray. Its always interesting to see a man, woman, and their family.

    "I better go make someone's day today!" ....what wise words from a living legend. It's funny seeing Michael Irvin so humbled in Drew's presence. Very touching doc as expected. I wrote a script about Joe Delaney "Joe #37)...There is an endearing joke involving Drew Pearson in the script, as he was Joe's hero before Joe switched from receiver to running back in college.

    Man, Drew really was clutch. He and Roger were the perfect duo. I would love to have one of those Drew Pearson t-shirts from the video. I was lucky to meet him and Roger in Atlanta during a huge sports convention. I was on one end of the convention center when I heard the announcement that Drew and Roger were taking Polaroids with fans…. Clear at the other end of the center. I dropped what I was doing and ran (in a suit and tie) and was lucky enough to get there in time. That photo is a prized possession of mine.

    One reason it took so long to get Drew in ... he never had a big game as far as receptions or multiple TD's in a super bowl. He was held WITHOUT a catch in SB XIII in the 1st half & had 4-5 catches in the 2nd half of that game but his stats came when the game was decided & Dallas trailed Pittsburgh 35-17. He also had only one catch against Denver in SB XII & didn't score at all. He had a big game against the Falcons in 1980 in the post season but never had a monster SB game. Mel Blount covered him like a blanket in SB XIII in the first half. Guys like Charlie Waters, Harvey Martin & Ed Too Tall Jones would probably be in Canton were it not for the Steelers 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Look how long Cliff Harris had to wait. All I heard was Cliff Harris is a 1st ballot hall of famer after he retired in 1979. SHIT, it took over 30 years before Cliff was inducted. Paul Zimmerman of Sports Illustrated said "Anytime the electors or sportswriters mentioned any of the Cowboy players from the 70's that I thought were deserving, the response was yeah but they lost those two super bowls to the Steelers." Zimmerman resigned from the hall of fame committee in protest over sportswriters not electing guys like Bob Hayes, Ken Riley, Ken Stabler, Harold Carmichael, Charlie Waters, Harvey Martin ... lot of forgotten names from the 1970's. Swann & Stallworth BOTH got in because they had two EPIC super bowl performances ... against the Cowboys. If you DON'T have multiple catches & multiple TD's in super bowl performances or you lose in multiple super bowls, sportswriters tend not to support you. The receiver from the 1970's that I thought was better than Swann, Stallworth & Drew Pearson still gets the least amount of respect from anyone ... Harold Carmichael who also played on a super bowl losing team. He also never had a big, huge post season game either.

  • @andre1987eph
    @andre1987eph 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    21:47 and 20:26 the ball looks like it might have partially deflected horizontally also off Minnesota defender #43 Nathan Wright’s outstretched lower leg. This explains how the ball bounces quickly into Drew Pearson’s hip, despite being thrown from almost 60 yards away. Drew even says right here at 22:53 after the game that it was a “lucky” catch. However it looks like Drew made the adjustment by moving his right arm backward, anticipating the ball might deflect towards him, so really it was a very skilled catch based on flexibility , and not “lucky”.

    • @gootchie
      @gootchie ปีที่แล้ว

      I've always thought the same thing. If you look closely enough, the ball appears to deflect off Wright's ankle or lower leg, judging from the odd angle the ball seemed to take into Pearson's hands.

    What always bothered me about Drew not being inducted into the Hall quicker is knowing what caliber of player he was compared to more modern players that made it in ahead of him. There are fantastic players who were inducted into the HoF that were NOT the big game impact player that Drew was. Those players were definitely good players, but Drew was a game breaker who was as clutch as someone like Lynn Swann who played during Drew's era. In his era, Drew was as good as it gets.

      Even more criminal that he only got in because he put out a video of him crying and complaining… it’s not a coincidence that he got in a year after that… he got in the hof, but it cost him his reputation…
