Once somebody figures out how to make something similar to Leatherman, they will never sell out again. I feel like customers are really getting tired of waiting.

I tell you. If a company makes the leap to design a 1/4 in line bit driver. They will make a mint. Drives me nuts that leatherman is the only game in town. I find it hard to believe no one has done it yet.

Surely, by that stage, you might as well just carry a bit handle as well?

I bought the Leatherman bit extender followed by an ATuMan 24-in-one ratcheting screwdriver set. It comes with a square to hex adapter - all connects together nicely.

Very nice! I have been trying to buy a Leatherman ratchet for 1 1/2 years now. One would think…. With such high demand for the Leatherman ratchet…….. Leatherman would get their act together and get some product on the shelf. It’s just another sign that Leather is asleep at the wheel. I like the solution that you came up with first and online ratchet. I’m going to go down that route! Thank you!

It's funny you mentioning Leatherman's ratcheting bit driver not being available on their site. Yup, I checked earlier today and it's gone...then I checked ebay. I laughed when I saw how much they're going for. That's crazy!

I came up with quite similar setup: Proxxon 23783 2-in-1 bit and socket extension (711l have almost identical product, but it's much pricier to ship it to Poland, where I live) and Cal-Van Tools 108 finger ratchet.
Fun fact: you can actually use Cal-Van Tools 108 ratchet with Powerpint (and probably other SOG multitools with similar bit adapters), even without any extension.

Kind of overkill. These are for converting breaker bars into ratchets, that's why you have a hard time trying to find it in 1/4". Labear has a screwdriver with a detachable head that does the same thing, but it also is to big/heavy.

I think what I’m going to do is get a shorty hex socket adapter and grind it down to fit direct into my Surge. It should shorten the tool and That way I can have the bulk closer to the tool and the standard extension on the other end. I used to have a LM ratcheting one that got lost….. yes I know, it really sucks, and I would use them like that on things like door knobs

@@hvacbudget8600 Thankyou. Especially since I didn’t replace it when they were still available. What had happened was I had bought a fancy belt case off Amazon that spring held the bit kit in place and had a magnet holder for the driver. The only downside is instead of a closed loop for your belt it had one of those stupid spring clip things that can pop off easy. I think I lost it either up on a roof or crawling under a house for work. It was about $100 loss so I couldn’t afford to replace it right away and then when I was about to that’s when they were all out of stock, lost the case of big kit and the driver and one go, needless to say I no longer have anything to do with any belt pouch that has one of those spring clips

Check out Topeak Ratchet Rocket Lite, designed as a cyclist's standalone mini tool. Will not fit into a Leatherman flat bit holder, though but comes in a nice Cordura belt sheath and ten bits. I EDC this along with my Victorinox Swiss Tool Spirit XC or Leatherman Free P4. I'm happy as a clam. Cheers...

    • @hvacbudget8600

I don't think so. It seems the ratchet is made overseas. Some say covid has still affected steel and manufacturing even to this day, so that the ratchet is only shipped to Leatherman in limited numbers.

It is far too inconvenient to try and use a ratchet in this way, you can't even get much torque out of it due to the clumsy way of holding it. It is far easier to simply have a small ratchet with normal extension(s) and whatever sockets or socket to screwdriver adaptors you need. 1/4 drive tools take up hardly any space & weigh very little either and I wouldn't be surprised if this is why Leatherman don't make any effort to sell their versions anymore.
