Check your hanger, on many BMWs they are torn and the whole muffler assembly is hanging on the exhaust manifold. If not replaced/ repaired on time this will lead to a crack in the exhaust manifold. I've seen a few cars with this problem. I repaired my hanger because I did not have a replacement, because I needed to drive the car and because I can. I have done similar repair a few years ago and it outlasts the factory hanger. Make sure the rivets or bolts that you use are well secured and made out of stainless steel or strong steel so they don't fail from rust.
