      12 GB isn't a problem now like 8GB isn't a problem in 2019. But do you want to spend this cash for this product and is it good "ROI" and I think not. You can call AMD fine wine technology or whatever, the same could probably be said about Intel's GPU's at the moment. But the ROI is just a lot less and thats after burning their bridges with gamers by selling pallets to miners directly, and reporting that profit as "Gamer Growth to their stock holders" . All of it are variables that lead consumers in to the reverse of what sales people want. Not yes yes yes but rather no no no. So no It's not Good value and NO the same DLSS3 hardware exist in the 30 series they just want you to go f*ck yourself. And NO its not a long term product. Don't forget that 4K is really becoming more affordable and those textures will demand 16GB in a couple of years no question

This is a good GPU - very power efficient, compact, silent, has more than enough VRAM for it's die capabilities and it performs great at 1440p, which is the best resolution for 4070. It's only problem is inflated price. If it was $499, it would sell like hot cakes. Unfortunately lack of tough competition (thanks to AMD, who can only sell VRAM, but not technology), inflation and echo of the last mining boom did it's job.

    What it really depends on is what games do you own? Most of my catalog is older games that I can now run at high fps with high graphical settings. Metro Exodus Enhanced edition and Cyberpunk runs even better with my RTX 4070. I generally wait for games to get cheap on Steam and that can take a couple years after release. Realistically upgrading to a upper mid range card works just fine for me. The second thing is how often do you upgrade. Honestly just having patience will save you money on the games and you’ll get high settings with newer cards. The problem is when you want things “now.” I’m in a blessed position in my life but I still try to be smart with my money. All the money I spent in my twenties on games at full price rather than being patient and playing it smart has brought me some regret. But that’s life, we learn 😂

    This one is missing the mark. The point is not that there is a problem *now*. The point is that this VRAM issue is going to get worse. Objectively, given what developers are saying, they will need to use more and cannot spend time optimizing for lower VRAM amounts. In this scenario, having the extra VRAM headroom is going to increase the longevity of your card for future Triple-A titles. The 4070 will begin to lose out on performance for those same titles, where the 6950XT will operate at its best.
    None of this is to even mention how this comparison looks when AMD actually ends up releasing a current-gen model that competes with the 4070.

      "Longevity" is a very misleading term. There is no GPU, which can handle new games during a few years at the same resolution/settings. Future Triple-A titles will also require a lot more GPU horsepower, not just more VRAM. When the day of "12GB is not enough" comes, 4070 won't be able to run those future games at bearable framerates anyway. So you will have to reduce resolution and settings, which saves VRAM as well. Here and now you actually need just about 10GB at 1440p/Ultra, if the game is optimized well. The latest patch for TLoU shows, that game developers can actually do their job right and you definitely do not need 16+GB to play this game without any problems, in fact, 11GB is all it needs now for 4K. But 4070 can not run this game at 4K/60. And at 1440p TLoU requires only 9,5GB.
      And do not forget that AMD GPUs usually require more VRAM than Nvidia GPUs, which is shown in this video. And 6950XT is a faster card, thus it has more VRAM, so it can run games at higher resolutions/settings than 4070.

    It doesn't really matter what you call it - optimized, unoptimized, good port, bad port. Regardless of the current state of pc game, if nvidia had given you more vram you would be having a better gaming experience and more longetivity with your $600 product. Even more egregious with the 4070ti at $800. The same company gave you 8gb for $380 with the gtx 1070. That 50% more vram for 1.6x the price. That’s what 7 years of “progress” is to Nvidia.

So to sum it up the RTX 4070 is a good card at a bad price. Games have already come out that require 12 GB VRAM. 2-3 years later is probably gonna be 16 GB VRAM. So, no the 4070 needed at least 16 GB to be relevant.

Also I should have said it's good for games at 1440p today with the caveat that you might have to turn off raytracing and turn down textures in some current games and future games because it doesn't have enough vram. I tried saying the same thing to the youtuber TheGoodOldGamer in a livestream and he told me I can just turn down settings in games and said to just turn off raytracing because it causes terrible frametime spikes whenever he turns it on. The thing is though is that I've turned it on and I don't get frametime spikes in every game like he does. A person in his livestream chat told me to give him an example of 4 games that are optomized that need more vram. I thought of Resident Evil 4 Remake and said that the game crashes when you run out of vram I think and he said a simple solution to that is to turn down settings. The thing is I like beautiful graphics so I don't want to turn down settings or textures that's why I have an RX 7900 XT despite it being overpriced. I also said raytracing and pathtracing will make it easier for developers to make games and he laughed at me and said pathtracing will never be a thing because he thinks graphics cards that will be able to do pathtracing like the RTX 4090 will be expensive forever but he forgets that all technology starts out expensive and gets cheaper overtime. That guy named TheGoodOldGamer must be really dumb as hell. When RT was first introduced, everyone said it was useless and said that it wouldn't be the future. After the 30 series came out, RT became a thing and GPUs that could do RT became hell of a lot cheaper. The 1500$ 2080 Ti's performance could match the 600$ 3070 effortlessly. Old GPUs go down in price but new GPUs also give old gen flagship performance at a much lower price. The RTX 4070 Ti that costs about 800$ could match the 3090 Ti that was priced at about 2000$ when it came out. GPU performance improves gen after gen, it's just a matter of time before path tracing could be done by xx50 series GPUs at some point in the future.

So in the end I think 12gb are enough for 1440p at the moment and also for the next 3-4y (mostly because high and ultra textures look very similar during gameplay, so having to drop down settings in 2-3y is not a real problem for me). But, the small bus scares me, I feel like the card is and will be held back more from the bus than its 12gb of vram.

    and don't get me started on this "not for this type of class of cards" because that has been proven to be false now.... even with the correct settings on their class of cards, nvidia has proven every bottleneck in their 3000 series cards using settings perfect for their class of cards in the latest titles of games that pushes boundaries for the future of the industry, have their cards shot in the legs by vram if its not at least with 12gb vram.... and even the 12gb vram are still having artifacting issues....
    this 12gb vram no matter the AI power and other BS stuff from nvidia that are proprietary.... yea its not gonna cut it for more than 1-2 years.... because the latest actual decently optimized AAA titles for the past 2 years are already in the 10gb vram range even on 1080p.... they had to make patches just for nvidia cards just to make you guys think ohhh look its avg fps is btr than amd..... while in the background, heavy artifacting is happening non stop every few seconds just from reloading assets or purposely unloading said assets the next few seconds on nvidia cards due to lack of vram.... not to mention star citizen's pure BS..... it makes anything lower than 16gb vram look like a fucking piece of shit....

    I did buy the 4070 recently. I game at 1440P. So far so good, but we'll see how it handles Starfield and the upcoming Cyberpunk DLC. That said, in many games, at 1440P max settings, I am CPU bound, so I'd really need to upgrade my CPU or upgrade to a 4K monitor before the performance of the 4070 was a concern to me right now. I also care about power efficiency. I did not have to upgrade my power supply to run the card. If I purchased a 6950XT or a 4070 TI, I'd have to upgrade my power supply as well and I'd have to factor that additional cost. I do feel like I took a calculated risk because I am concerned about not having 16gb of VRAM long term, so when the time comes, I will sell it and upgrade.

    I disagreed big time with the VRAM statement. My 3080 (same performance as 4070) is able to turn on MAX settings and RT in RE4 at 100+ fps except for the texture because the card is out of VRAM. This is a real use case for me. I need more VRAM on my 3080. If you're not playing an AAA open world game, 3080/4070 can target MAX settings at 1440p. And if more AAA non-open world games start to use more VRAM like RE4, you need the 16gb. You saying 16gb doesn't match with the use case of a 3080/4070 is so out of touch.

Just because the founders edition 2070 was +$100 and now it's not, doesn't mean that the price jump isn't shocking, and the crypto + pandemic pricing can't be used to excuse this either, it's a rip off of a card. Then yeah, the comments on VRAM are silly, obviously, sorry they are, the 4070 has the performance of the 3080 which was clearly a 4K card at the time and the 10GB version was a really cruel joke Nvidia shoved on people, the 12GB card was barely better, but it was also 2-3 years ago, we've seen the examples where PC games are exceeding 12GBs now, I have no idea why you'd defend this decision, it's baffling. I don't agree the 4070 does not need 16GB VRAM.
    Yes if games are better optimized you could argue that the traget performance of a 4070 class card does not require 16gb VRAM persé. However the existence of lower than 16GB VRAM cards does require game developers to optimize for lower vram cards, which is a time consumptive task to begin with. Which can be better spent on other game development aspects than optimization for lower end vram options. When lower end cards which target a lower end performance tier have more VRAM, they still target those performance levels they intend to do, except they can handle higher quality textures as well. So the performance roughly stays the same but the actual graphics quality will go up just by having more VRAM.
    And developers don't have to spend as much time optimizing for lower end VRAM options.

      we're not buying GPUs for developers to be lazy. a 3080 10 GB is still faster than 6800xt at 4k and 1440p, without raytracing, so if VRAM matters 6800xt should've been beating 3080 now.

    • @JustSomeDude31
      @JustSomeDude31 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@deathtoinfidelsdeusvult2184
      It's not about being lazy, it's about technological advancement pushing what developers are able to do. When a developer has to work 2 extra years on a game just for optimizations of lower tier hardware, it is not only negative for a developer but also for a consumer. VRAM has nothing to do with the "speed" of a card. Speed and graphical performance are two different things. Now 3080 10gb has less graphical pefromance than a 6800XT even though the 3080 might be faster. However lack of VRAM can cause slowdowns nonetheless, depending on the graphical settings you choose.

      @@JustSomeDude31 if they were able to fix it in just 2 weeks there's no way they need 2 extra years in optimizing the game. Textures are one who mostly use the VRAM as many as possible, and there's not a single guy pointed that 3080 looks worse than a 6800xt on 4k, hell that's actually the opposite because you'll be using DLSS/FSR on both cards. Funnily enough, hardware unboxed had to stop benchmarking certain game because 6800xt just can't run it as he said on his 6800xt vs 3080 comparison.

      As for AMD, 7800XT at 20GB, 7900XT 20GB (current one) 7900XTX 24GB (current one) and perhaps if they manage to create a 7950XT at 24GB and a 7950XTX at 32GB.

    If they still want a huge profit margin flagship GPU, for people willing to pay for the very best, they could release a new RTX4090Ti / titan with 48GB VRAM, display port 2.1 & PCIe5 for something between $1,500 and $2,000.
    This pricing would be consistent with the previous pricing, even taking into account the cost of living inflation.

    I respect your opinion. I just don't fully agree with the notion that we should be so accepting of 12GB on a 4070 in this generation. It was barely acceptable to have 8GB on the 3070 when it launched back then, and we're now seeing how seriously limited the GPU is with newer game titles because of the VRAM issue at 1440p. With 12GB VRAM, the 4070 feels like it's going to have the same shelf life as the 3070 had as newer games start to come out that do require more VRAM.
    I do feel like people are putting a lot of expectations on the 4070. However, most of this is due to the pricing they launched it at. It should have been priced at $499 (MAX), not $599.

    Hold up, did I just watch a video with the 4070 being compared to the 6950xt, and hear "the game used 18% more VRAM, but only got 15% better performance", as though that's not a significant bump in performance when comparing things that cost the same price?
    Is this video just a big 4070 video that's actually a 6950XT video?

    What Ryzen cpu would go well with this? I've heard the 700x3d is like the best you can get for gaming right now, would that be a gigantic bottle neck for 1440p gaming on a 4070 though?
    I'm attracted to the 4070 as I've always done the 70 series cards, 770, 970, 2070(current). And the fact that it is a nice physical size, the size of GPU's is fucking disgusting now, especially if you want to do a miniITX build. What's your thoughts?

    I downgraded my 3080 Ti to a 4070. I already have a 4080 in my main rig so top of the line performance in my 2nd PC wasn't what I needed. I replaced the 3080 Ti with the 4070 FE because the 4070 has AV1 encoding, it uses 150 watts less than the 3080 Ti with very close performance, and it has DLSS3 and Frame Generation. Plus, my 3080 Ti is kind of sentimental and I'd rather keep it knowing it works. All in all, the 4070 impresses me. A lot. It impresses me because the 4070 Founder Edition is the same size as the 3060 Ti and 4060 Ti, and it also runs at up to 200 watts just like the 3060 Ti also runs at 200 watts. So the 4070 is the same size and wattage as a 3060 Ti but it performs almost neck and neck with a 3080?? Thats impressive. I don't care what anyone says. Should it cost $599? No. Thats pretty expensive. but I can and do recommend the 4070 to anyone building a new PC. the 12gb of VRAM will be good for a few years to come. 12gb of VRAM isn't great. but its enough

    Sadly where I am in Canada the only local store I have is bestbuy, so I'm stuck ordering online or driving for 3 hours to get to a memory express, and currently the cheapest 6950xt I can get is 859cdn, the cheapest 4070 is 799cdn. At those prices, I can't bring myself to pay that for a card. The performance per watt is a huge metric for me, especially with the size of my office and the heat concerns I would have. The 4070 is more attractive with the much lower power usage, but 800 still too much.

    I recently got the 4070 but I use it in a big case 4000D Airflow. It is very cool, around 60C while gaming.
    Also the power consumption is great. It will save me a little money on the power bill.

      @EwanShawcroft ปีที่แล้ว

      Often depends on the games and resolutions you're playing at. If aiming for high FPS 1080p gaming, a faster CPU makes a bigger difference than at higher resolution and lower FPS. A faster CPU can also help smooth out PCVR gaming if that's your thing. A 5700X is a great CPU - I upgraded from 3600 to 5800X (very similar to 5700X), mainly for PCVR and couldn't be happier

    4K is the future. Hence the 4070's gonna loose the VRAM race pretty soon. Especially with games like Starfield on the Horizon. 😞

    • @nadtz
      @nadtz ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd be impressed if that happened anytime soon though. 4k is still an order of magnitude behind 1440p in the steam surveys and 1440p is still like 1/5th of 1080. While it's not an objective measurement of all gamers it's a large enough sample to say that 1080p is still by far the most popular res by a very large margin.

    • @aFutureSelf
      @aFutureSelf ปีที่แล้ว

      4k is too expensive and the huge hit in fps doesn’t make it seem worth it yet. Also, you’re at the mercy of buying expensive cpu/gpus going forward. If maybe the future, but that’s just it, it’s the future and not now.
      Also, the vram issue is way overblown anyways. Not everyone on pc plays AAA titles on ultra 4k 30fps lol. One of the benefits that makes pc gaming worth the price is getting that buttery smooth 144-360fps, even if it is 1080/1440p.

    • @XPkoolXD
      @XPkoolXD ปีที่แล้ว

      The video shows several 4k games running great with 12GB VRAM or less. The real issue is software that is poorly optimized on launch and patched weeks, months, years after the release. Publishers are releasing games in poor quality and making early buyers pay to be their QA team. I happily wait until it's in good working condition and by then it's often half off in price too.
