  • Replacing some broken gears in a model 72 Cub Cadet transmission. It's the same 3 speed transmission as a Farmall Cub.

    Thanks for the video. I just bought a Cub Cadet 104 with the 3 speed transmission and it seems that something's locked up...so your video will prove very helpful. If I may ask, what was your source for the replacement gears?

      Your transmission could be caught in two gears or if it got water in it it could have seized bearings.

      @@CanadianRedneck15 mine today was doing that its like it was stuck in nothing let out on the clutch and it would just bog down and try to cut off if i kept messing and rocking it it would come out and go in a gear what do you think is the problem

      @@Raven-rf7cz Check your shift forks, they tend to be a little fragile and could be bent or broken causing the transmission to be in two gears at once.

    Good day A farmall cub has 24 in. tires, a farmall cub cadet might have 15 or 16. You mean those little riding tractors had that heavy a transmission in. If so, no wonder they want them for tractor pulling. Was this 1 a tractor puller, being all them gears had tooth out. Boy that is a heavy transmission. Thanks

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes that is right, they shared a common transmission. I expect it was cheaper to use the already designed transmission than to design a new one for a product that was as yet untried. You also have to take into consideration the Farmall had quite a gear reduction in the final drive case between the transmission and the wheel. As far as I know this tractor had not been used as a puller, but it had certainly seen some harsh duty somewhere along the way to shed teeth. Once one sheds though it's not uncommon for the broken piece to get picked up and get into the others and cause more damage. I expect that is what caused the split in the gear from the bottom shaft.

    What fluid did you refill it with? Do you use hytran?

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, in these gear cases we use 80-90 gear oil, I only use Hy-Tran if the case is also the hydraulic reservoir.

      I didn't get the story on what caused the damage I just got to fix it. :) I had used gears here. Thanks for watching!

    What are the hours you put into complete repairs on the 154 trans ?

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't remember now, the customer removed the transmission from the tractor and brought to me so that would be the longest part of the job looked after by him. I expect that I spent an hour or 2 replacing the gears that needed changed.

    But I have a 102 Cub Cadet I've been working on it put a new clutch on it got the engine running again I just had to make me a new exhaust system transmission is not working that good but I'll get it running but I'm going to put 80 90 in it like this guy did gear oil

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, these transmissions were designed for 80-90, I think it's the way to go.

    Any mechanic worth his "salt" would have thoroughly cleaned the case and >all< components, then performed a much closer and conscientious inspection of >all< individual pieces before reassembly.
