    Word to the wise , next time you assemble a gear structure like a pto or anything above the oil line of bath put you some axle bearing or assembly grease on those metal to metal internal fittings . It will be much smoother , and last you a whole lot longer . Particularly if your going to use this tractor other than in parades . Which it seems to me you are . Axle bearing grease is cheap and it sticks like peanut butter . Keeps things the way their supposed to be....WORKING FOR YOU .

    reminds me of our old farmall cub. my grandfather bought it new for his father my great grandfather. my brother has it now original paint garage kept since day one. its a nice machine. its what I learned on. that is how I got interested in tractors. I guess I been on tractors since I was born. my grandfather would plow the land with me on his lap. by the time I was 8 or 10 years old I was running that tractor to do all the chores around the property.

    If I am not mistaken I think my uncle would drain and run kerosene in any old tractors to help break down the gunk then drain and fill with gear lubes. We had a few Allis Charmers and IH. Cut my mechanics teeth on them.

    So if it was worn inside it must of had a pto at one time ? And what do you plan to use the pto for ? I believe they turn the opposite way compared to a regular tractor. And the pto shaft spline is not the same as a regular tractor, I think. Great video. Seemed fairly easy. Good to get the goo cleaned out. Should drain your axle drops too.

      Your right Noel, it’s reversed as well as a different speed. I had installed it with hopes of finding an angled pulley so I can search for implements like a belly mower and a buzz saw! I sure appreciate the comment, take care!

    Now your cooking Dave. Rear PTO, you opened up and now you can mow,till, and brush hog. Gave it a whole bunch of possibilities. Good job buddy. What did you use 80/90wt gear oil to put back in it? Reason I'm asking i got an old Wheel Horse garden tractor and the rear housing looks a lot like yours. I need to pull off the inspection plate and flush and clean like you did. Thanks Dave.

      Thanks Dean! Yes I’m excited to get something on it now haha, I’d like to find an old sickle mower! Yes I use 80/90 on it! I’m glad I did because I had just drained it not long ago but that sludge just stuck In the bottom! Definitely worth checking out :) have a good one my friend!

    Were the yellow bolts any longer than the original red bolts? Maybe they were the ones that were supposed to go in the top three holes.

    Does the bearing housing slide off the pto shaft or is there additional disassembly required to remove the housing? The reason I am asking is, I need to replace the pto seals and I am hoping I dont have to remove everything to do it.

    • @OhioHillTopsHobbyFarm
      @OhioHillTopsHobbyFarm  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey James thanks for the comment, without looking at it I can’t remember for sure but I believe you can unbolt the mounting plate of the bearings and pull out that assembly alone while leaving most of the fluid in there. I’ll look into it and get back to you!

    • @jamesranger6283
      @jamesranger6283 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OhioHillTopsHobbyFarm Pulled everything apart today and the seal must be tapped out from the inside. The old seal is very thick and requires 2 new seals to replace the old one. they must be installed back to back. The bearing and shaft can be tapped out of the housing fairly easily once the spring clip is removed. If you ever replace the seals just make sure you dont set the seals to far into the housing. Otherwise the inner seal will interfere with the bearing and the spring clip will not sit into the grove. the seal should protrude about 1mm on the outside. I started the first seal tapping it into the housing face in and the second face out using a socket. Just have to install the shaft and housing tomorrow. That looks like it will involve a little swearing and some luck. Thanks for the vid.

    There is a seal for the engagement shaft. Did yours leak without it?

    • @OhioHillTopsHobbyFarm
      @OhioHillTopsHobbyFarm  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tim, I appreciate ya watching. I haven’t noticed it leaking yet but I’ve only engaged it a handful of times. But it did feel like a pretty tight fit and I thought with it being gear oil and not filled to the height of the lever it shouldn’t leak to bad if any at all. So far though no leaks! Hope that helps, thanks for the comment. Take care!
