EDIT: Indy you stated at the end that you weren't sure if Archaeon can reach 1,000 total weapon strength so I did a small experiment to check if he can. Alone he can reach ~1.1K total weapon strength with all his buffs. With Occam's Mindrazor + all his buffs he reaches ~1.2K.

Grimgor can reach 1k without buffs. (In campaign and I believe without gear) Quite frankly his only saving grace.

@@TheBarser Greenskins are missing stuff and have not been update for a while. But actually, they can still stand up against elves. Druchii are honestly only overwhelming strong against WoC, the rest are fairly balanced and you need to be good at micro with dark elves.

With mind razor, heart render, and sword of anti heroes the blood dragon can get to 1150. But that is an expensive lord and hero duo. Though the vampire hero would curb stomp an elf caster so there is that.

technically yes, but i believe this was a friendly match between competitive players. and running away from combat with all your units at once is banned in tournament play, so he took the honorable and glorious engagement ;)

@@milkandcookiesTW I understand kiting to force a draw would be extremely disrespectfull and against tourney rules, but why should the Brets have to take a fight when the enemy is at their strongest? If the enemy lord charges you with insane buffs active, that's not a fight you should be forced to take if you can avoid it and that should apply to Malus' Tz'arkan form too. Malus just coincidentally have to die for it to wear off.
@@Busketroll yeah I agree that this is a very different case than "toxic" draw kiting, I understand the rule needs to be simple and practical but I think it should be a bit more case-by-case/allow for specific exceptions
@@renedegames7219 running away isnt banned in tournament play, completing avoiding engagements with every single one of your units is. the rule is mostly to prevent cycle charging with single entities and cav in perpetuity. units like Shaggoths and Star Dragons can cycle charge armies into oblivion in the right circumstances, so if you are left with only single entities or cavalry, you have to commit at least one of them to the fight so as not to abuse that imbalanced element of the game. in this case, if he had cheap infantry or something expendable to throw away at the end, it would be perfectly fine to throw them at Malus because it would count as attacking. Regardless, this wasnt a tournament. it was his decision to give his Knights a manly, Chivalrous death

Malus straight up sending Alberic back to his pre-rework form.
The problem with weapon strenght buffs is that they are hard countered by direct stat manipulation. Stuff like Harmonic Convergence, Enfeebling Foe, Pha's Protection, Cascading Firecloak, Word of Pain, lord MD buffs etc. just make that 9001 damage never connect.
There's not many MA debuff for good faction, so bringing weapon dmg increase spell is quite the good idea I think.
he had 100+ melee attack multiple times that battle. got up to 120 melee attack at least once. he's going to be hitting A LOT regardless of which defensive buffs are active. but yeah, there is definitely plenty of counterplay to it, which is good!
Basic HE Lord on a Star Dragon with Okkhams Mindrazer and deadly onslaught can get to 1100 WS

The FUNNIEST part for me is that Malus actually NOT competitive :D
PS: even after killing a lord his impact on a battlefield was so low, that he almost lost. Also Mindrazor spell is available for half of factions in the game, Kholek, Archaon, DreadLord on a dragon, Karl Franz and General on a gryphins, Prince on a star dragon all can get to 1000 WS to name a few
eh, I dont agree he is not competitive, he just isnt the best choice for the Dark Elves cuz they have so many good lords. Morathi and Malekith are just both better than him in most situations. Him almost losing doesnt mean his battlefield impact was low, I dont know how anyone could watch that game and say his impact was low. Killed an expensive, beastly lord in literally 3 seconds, got 100 kills (some on high value knights), and was the last man standing in the Dark Elf army, after routing off Knights Errant and Questing Knights multiple times.
@Garulfo Just to clear this up. Bretonnia DOES have access to lore of light and the missing lore of the lady on their damsels in 8th edition. On a *foot* note we are also missing foot knights. CA please fix.
@@milkandcookiesTW Dragon would have roasted archers, Malekith/Momrathi could + harvesters deal 1500 damage in AOE with 2 buttons, And sadly UncleBerry with 35 MeleeDefence can die from a simple non lord dragon in 1v1 fight in 5-6 hits. And if Croissante just kited away a little bit longer (he was chasing death hag so its allowed) that would have been a lose while both knights, death hag and sorcerer actually get comparable amount of kills and damage value - uncleberric was also getting attacked by 70 WS knights with fury of khaine

If that dark elf killing thing popped a couple of seconds earlier Alberic would have died easy.
Dahv made a video about Okkam’s Mindrazor, and how with the right combination of buffs, quite a few lords can easily get up to 950-1000+ WP strength.
This combo isn’t exclusive to the Dark Elves, which means that the spell is probably busted, and could be meta-defining if it doesn’t get nerfed.
Okkams mindrazor ....It’s incredibly expensive, and doesn’t last very long at all, and choseing it over useing say.. pit of shadows it’s other high level counterpart, well it’s not bad but very specific in its use,
Seeing Bretonnia teeter tottered between being one of the best in one of the worst with every couple updates is a very interesting ride 😂😂😂
reminds me of that time when archaon got attacked by snitch and assasin hero. i saw them fighting once archaon was 3/4 hp, used all buffs, used cloak of fire and again, 3 hits was enought to kill the lord with 1k dmg

Drainer of worlds, imagine a 30, or 40K book where T'zarkan shows up/is summoned does, literally drain a world of all life or something, before he goes back into the warp. Wouldn't even be breaking canon since the two settings are linked somewhat via the warp, we've had cross overs before, and time is all messed up when talking about this.
They aren't linked all thats left is some vague hints which don't make sens in the larger context.
I got archaeon over 1200 with that spell the other day and using flame sword of ruin plus slayer of kings

Is Malus in need of a nerf, or does the level of play needed to get stats like that justify it?
Seeing as how he krumped a heavy hp, anti large lord in literally 3 seconds with like 2 buffs, I’d say he needs a nerf.
Hard to counter that kind of power when the opponent will just kite until the time is right.
Malus doesn't need a nerf at all, he's a one-trick pony like that and if the Brets hadn't taken a couple of silly fights they didn't need to there they would easily have outlasted his demon form and won.
You can do that WS trick on anyone with a big steroid and access to Lore of Shadows. Wulfrik, Karl Franz, Archaon etc.
Malus is more expensive, can't fly and has only spite as a mount so not that much mass either. He is not op at all, just don't 1vs1 him with your lord then the impact Malus has is not that devastating. Malekith much more competitive.
Futhington A one trick pony doesn’t necessarily make it ineffective at what it does, but most characters don’t have insane stat steroids plus the hp stealing and AoE dmg (without winds of magic cost).
The fact that you can suicide him and then suicide him again for effect with some very unappealing duel stats both times, with arguably the most competitive faction, makes it a bit unfair.
Plus oh his mount, mounted/flying lords can’t toss him about on the charge. And why would you not put him on spite lol. I mean flying leadership has to close for the melee at some point.
@@billl2903 I imagine great players can disarm him fairly easy. Kinda like with Tyrion, sure he is a beast and can roast infantry with sunfang, but if he get's stuck into something, he never get's out.
also sure flying lords have to land sometime, but they will dictate when that will be. Anyway, he is far from op compared to lords on dragons with dragon breath, heals, insane mass...
@@billl2903 true and he's not ineffective as we've seen here. But he has basically one thing he does and with a player who's on point and watching their positioning it's going to take intense micro to get it out of him. Arguably the Bret player lost his lord here because he was playing one of the most micro-intensive factions in that regard and took his eye off the ball, as a flyer Alberic should have been at leisure to fight Malus when he wanted to and avoid the engagement onto a roided up duelist.

Cause they are Grail Knights well at least the core group and some of the best at that. The companions are probably among the top 10 best units in the lore.

Man, I would LOVE to get good at this game. The problem is, I can't get good without practice, and I can't get practice because there is never anyone online to practice against. If I wait for half an hour, maybe someone will show up, but usually the queues are quite empty. Does anyone have a solution to my problem? :D
From what I hear pretty much everyone has to go to LFG discords and such to find matches. I think Turin has a section of his dedicated to it but I'm not sure.

lots of lords can hit 1000 weapon strength in campaign cuz of the skill trees, but how would he hit 1000 weapon strength in multiplayer? I dont think Red Ruin gets him anywhere near 1k
as neat as it is to see something that can 3 shot melee lords, thats just fucking ridiculous and belongs in a different warhammer title. total war is a strategy and tactics game, not an RPG

Malus is by far the strongest combat lord in game if it's 1vs1. Beats most lords without even transforming. With hate everything is possible!

@@TheTrueFeleas I think nobody can take Malus on 1vs1, in close fights he would transform so I don't know. It sure sound strong but since he only has mediocre mobility on spite, little mass and no flying it's not op or you would see Tyrion and Archaon more often in competitive games.
Did they ever nerf the companions of quenelles or change their cost since their addition to the game?
Potion of Speed update increased their cost by 100 gold, and gave them +10 bonus vs large.

Back in WH1, I was killing empire captains and I think also lords on a single hit. Kholek fully focused on melee stats, with all actives triggerd and mindrazor + a full charge.1 hit kill, all the times.
