My like was for similarity, except that I was 19 when this released, but I am currently 50 as I encounter this comment of yours. Also still listening. Don't know about you and whether you remained interested in the genre(s),.. but the thing that gets me about this album.. is the whole 'event cone over time' for me that follows from this album. I mean, just Autechre and AFX alone would probably account for many 1000s of hours of listening pleasure since 92 (and slightly before, but this album kinda put them into focus for me).. then there are other greats on this album.. Looking back, this album Is kinda the base camp for an absolute mountain of music that followed from it.
i bought this in reseda record trader, reseda blvd, reseda, san fernando valley, (the valley), L.A. in may 1994 for $5.99 promotion only, not for sale stamped on it. spent hours on end in there digging in the bargain bin the yanks werent interested in. still got it. found some gems, rare stuff, all promo only, not for sale embossed on them at giveaway price. $1.99 up to $7.99 when cds sold at $20 new. all the mugs were down at tower records on sunset blvd. shout out to record trader in RESEDA baby. punk was big in L.A. early 90s. try explaining 'electronic trip music' to that lot. the looks i got. came back to london in 1996 with suitcases full. had to pay excess baggage on the plane. couldnt part with them. still got 'em. warp rereleased artificial intelligence 30 year anniversay today so i looked this one up on youtube. im 53 and still into it.
immediate thoughts of Polygon Window blasting through ipod shuffle earbuds (the white one with no screen) every day in middle school. the obsession has not left and what a wild ride it's been. thank you for everything Warp.
Crazy to think at one point in time this level of computer animation was top tier. How far we've come yet how many steps backwards in the wrong direction we have also gone. Music doesn't hold this level of substance or imagination these days.
The last two tracks (Speedy J & Dr Alex) I especially adored, this slow build-up (Full 3) into a powerful sound just covers you or the sound of the sea surf (Loving You Live) is something cosmic, to goosebumps. A magnificent collection with a justifying title, really intellectual. Listen only on high-quality acoustics. With thanks to WARP Records
I can maybe count five compilations of different artists that have flipped the whole direction of modern music and this one tops the list. I spend a few years working just outside a grey and soulless part of the city filled with boarded up warehouses and big looming housing projects (tower blocks I think they’re called in the UK) and it always amazed me how well the Black Dog capture that whole environment with their sound. In years to come Burial managed to do the same thing. I’d say Burial captured that vibe after nightfall. But it’s amazing how atmospheric and descriptive and emotional electronic instrumental music can be.
This will never die. Timeless techno from back in the day and still going strong for so many people worldwide today. I am 53 now and this was released in my 20's and still want to hear these epic albums 1 and 2. Such a gems for electronic music. Me being a Dutch guy, the Speedy J. tracks are just killing it. Super producer from the Lowlands, loved and always true underground. We love Techno!

This album accompanied on my travels thru europe then israel in 92 i think...i left my mad UK life for a head reset (raving implode) but i found this in "Nice" france on cassette and i was always a "Warp " boy...yeah this was the joint ...my vinyl collection in the Uk i couldnt transport...but this album nourished my need...WORD UP... (big shout to the warp comp pioneers of the hypnotic groove aswell)
this, the Aphex Twin ambient works 1 and 2 and Rising High Ambient Collection,this last one, i still have that on tape gathering dust.along with Top Buzz 7 etc.. but one day i will buy one of those old 90s stack systems full of lights and buttons and a graphic equalizer , just for nostalgia. apparently Technics are to be avoided so JVC or SONY. Sony Mini Discs never caught on for some reason . I never had one....ive no vinyl but i guess the turntable will come in handy at some point.

I haven't heard anything fresh release on warp for a while. So yes again : too bad there are no new emerging artists in the same caliber of the aformentionned in the past decade or so on their label, which is still one of the major player for "new electronic music".... and it's not like the world lack of great sound makers in late 2022. And so yes you're obviously right as there are many labels and artists to re/research. But that is not in the thematic of my commebt, only wanted to point something that most of warp listeners feel at this point.

Great stuff Warp. Did Phil Wolstenholme prepare the updated Room render/animation? Had the pleasure of visiting the man himself at his house once, with the hope to contribute my own 3D CG work to Warp output BITD, sadly that never happened.
Having never really listened to any of these artists, this gave me hard flashbacks to the period in high school when I listened too much Moby's Early Underground. I'm now considering Moby being Richard in a bald cap
