    Never thought of using double knitting in the round! Makes total sense. For those curious, look up how to do double knitting, it's used to create a knit pattern on both sides and can be done in a fair-isle pattern as well. If you do the same pattern throughout, it will be hollow and you can knit in the round with two needles.

    Hi there!
    Use a regular cast on. Any way is OK.
    It needs to be even numbers.
    Once you cast on, you start with purling one, pass one as if to knit, and do the hole row like this.
    Thanks for visiting our website!
    Be well.

    We used to call this "double knitting". I think there's even a method of casting on with waste yarn that allows you to unravel and finish the cast on edge for an open tube, as well as the cast off edge--- for sleeves and such. I've seen some cool two color yarn projects this way, too. Double knitting is super speedy for stockinette, but fancy patterns are too difficult (for me) to track using this method. I love your tutorials!

    Oh yes, dear friend. There are loads of things you can make with this method!
    Knitting with different colors is as easy. Try it! You don't loose anything! You only gain the knowledge that "this way works" and "this other way doesn't work". This is how we come-up with new ideas! Thank you for your support!

    Hello!
    On this project, I wanted a closed beginning. One that I didn't have to sew the bottom, therefore I did a butterfly cast on, (please watch the video on this), and started knitting in the round on the first row.
    Have a nice week!

    If a person likes to knit better than Purling, we can knit the knit stitches while slipping the purl stitches. I tried it like that and it works well and I can knit a lot faster too.

    • @JoannesWeb
      @JoannesWeb  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, it does work like that too.

      if you knit than slip the purl how do you slip it, with yarn in front?

  • @JoannesWeb
    @JoannesWeb  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The back stitch, the purl, is the only one you knit on every row. Make sure your yarn is in the front when you purl and on the back when you pass the stitch from the left needle to the right.
    Take your time. Once you figure it out, it's easy.

    Hi.
    To bind off, separate the stitches in 2 double pointed needles. The knit ones in the front and the purl in the back. Now you can cast the ones in the front, turn and cast off the ones in the other needle.
    I will make a video response to this question very soon.
    Thank you for the suggestion.

      Bertha Smith You start with casting on the amount of stitches (in this case it's 15) and knit the front and the back of every stitch. This will give you double the amount you started with (30) Here is a link on how to do it! It's a washcloth and the front and back instruction is on the 3rd. row.

    Hi! I love this! i'm just a beginner and I would like to use this method to make double layered ribbed ear flaps+brim, which would then continue on into a normal single layered hat. i.e. could this same method be used on circular needles? Would that be possible? If so, could you post a tutorial to make such a hat? Thanks!

    • @JoannesWeb
      @JoannesWeb  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Star Krab You can make the 2 needle part for the ears and brim and then you can pick them up with the circular needles when you make the main part of the hat (single layer). Of course, you will need to switch to double pointed needles for the top, unless you want to have all the stitches gathered. This method has the purpose of making a circular piece with a small amount of stitches.
      You can use circular needles to do it if you wish, by using a magic loop or circle. It's done like if you were be making socks.

      +maria sanchez We will. Let me tell you what to do. It's very simple. You cast on the stitches you want to have, in total, onto one needle. You then divide half the amount into another. Fold the needles so they are parallel. and on a third needle, you pick up the stitches une from the front needle and one from the back one. Until you have half and half. Now you can start knitting in the round.

      You would need to pass the knit stitch into a needle and p2tog. , then take the 2 purls and k2tog. Not very practical when knitting like this. It's better to use straight needles and sew the sides together. This way you can add and take off as you wish without disturbing the sequence.
