Hi Paul. I'm just getting to know this piece a few months now. I love it so much , and the way you played this and the sound coming from a wall Yamaha piano, really astounds me. I have a Yamaha baby grand 5' 7" , and no way sounds like that. But I believe the secret is in your beautiful , light and consistent touch of the notes , that makes this piece breathe. I'm 57 years old and I've been playing the piano for 48 years , but never really developed good technical skills . Thanks for inspiring me to do so Blessings to you and good playing. Robin Ramsajan
This is absolutely amazing. I listen to this when I study and write my dissertations. Thank you so much, it helps me focus, and sometimes I take a break and close my eyes and listen instead.
The Guy uploads a top performance of a piece some pro pianists struggle with (see Olga Scheps vid) and all the comments are about his handspan. TH-cam, sucks
Now this has really become one of my favorite interpretations of this beautiful piece and I think one of the best on TH-cam, as just like you did here, only Kissin has really played with that depth, singing tone, and really brought the music out in the virtuosic sections, without getting weak on the technical front. Well played my dear friend, Paul!! So happy for you!
Rob Retro update: I ended up learning it! It took a lot of practice but it was worth it in the end. It wasn’t quite as hard as I had thought. (Still pretty hard though) But don’t let it intimidate you, just go for it!
You make it look effortless. The way the piano talks in this recording is truly spectacular. I feel like you're playing a harp at times. It's so fluid and perfect. Your technical ability is astounding and I aspire to one day play at least HALF as good as you play. I'm 15 years old and I am studying to become a pianist. This video has brought me joy.
Very talented player. Have to congrat u. It was really amazing, keep your work like that bro. 'D like to hear Jarrod Radnich Bohemian's medley with your hands. Greetings from Argentina
Yes.. I had a new U1 which was absolutely terrible. Such a harsh and metallic sound.. had the hammers voiced 2 times in less than 6 months by a concert technician and they always went back to being hard as a brick.. then I sold it and got a Bechstein B190 grand. But yeah maybe the U3 is generally better, or maybe it was just the age.. I'm not sure. Not that I care anymore since the Bechstein is absolutely lovely and refined D:
This piece means a lot to me, my sister played this at carnegie hall, and I used to listen to the recordings when I was little. Now, at an older age and also a pianist, I have them permanently etched in my memory. I am striving to play them as well as her.
Are you using any microphones to record? The sound is simply amazing, must be a combination of the piano sound and your skill. Your interpretation is amazing by the way!
Anna Kotsailidou Thanks, you're too kind! I used a Zoom H6 recorder for the sound. I got it to listen back through bits of practice, but I was surprised how good it is too
Is it me or are your hands gigantic? O_O It looks like you can reach a 12th or a 13th without any problem! Anyway dude, your technique is perfect and your playing is pure gold.. I know it's due to a classical pianistic education and probably years of practice, but how are your arpeggios+scales so even, and fluent? Your playing is pretty close to a concert pianist's one imo!
You literally have the same exact piano as me, it's in that corner of our house, with a window in that same place with that same shape and size. It's scary. I'm playing this piece for a recital today and watching this is like watching my practicing except our hand size are the complete opposites in size.
Soo beatifully played. I'm trying to learn this piece right now, but I'm why too slow and my fingers are too weak. Have you any tipps for me in how to practice pieces like this?
sranthrop start by playing something easy and fast Search for: 30 etudes progressives heller. The first one is not that hard. Just go slow dont rush things, play easy and fast stuff so u get used to faster pieces.
This is great great job, probably the second best performance of this piece available on youtube (only after Kissin's). Wish there was a better piano though! A few places open to discussion: 1) In the first occurrence of the main theme starting 1:07, it would sound better if left hand was played in lower dynamics, making right hand's theme more pronounced, something like here th-cam.com/video/lXE2-7KR8us/w-d-xo.html. You were probably trying to do this but this Yamaha does not offer that level of responsiveness. 2) 1:40, the two bB notes of left hand were not pronounced enough, making the effect of slur from bC to bB almost gone. 3) Right hand's bA and bG notes at 2:23 might need a little bit more clarity there. 4) 3:07, right hand might be a little bit too loud to let left hand's theme sing. 5) 3:36 to 3:37, an alternative fingering you could try, if you haven't tried already (but may not suit you best), is to hit the top note of the second chord in bass clef of the first three semiquaver groups using your right thumb. This fingering enables me to play these semiquaver groups quicker, giving me more room to apply variations to the pace to this bar. Given a few more months of practicing I believe your flow of melody will be even smoother and more natural. I look forward to your performance of this piece on a 7f+ grand!
I couldn't help but notice how you made some adjustments to Balakirev's arrangement, like how in the part right after the Lark intro and before the melody started, you played the B flat as well as the tenor notes with your left hand, whereas it says to play them with your right. Is this because you have larger hands?
Aisler Are you talking about the first bar of the Andantino (b.13)? If so, that's played with the left hand to maintain (or try to maintain!) the exact same accompaniment sound that then follows across that whole section, where it's then almost entirely played with left hand underneath the melody. Nothing to do with hand size. It would take more work to match the sound if you started with right, then switch to left. Small decisions about making things* easier for you are great! *life
Ahh, I understand. I've been trying to decide which one would be smarter to use because my instructor encourages me to play the part with my right hand, but I naturally stick with my left hand for the part. Anyways, thanks a lot. This is a beautiful cover!
Woah........ that's amazing... the sound is the best I've heard, ever and I've played on quite a lot of grande pianos. You are outstanding at playing this piece! May I ask how long you took to do this piece?
Hi Paul, how long did it take for you the learn this piece? I'm learning it for a week now and im on the 4th page but left hand is kinda hard when you also have to play the melody with the right hand, how did u practise that?
Wow... BEAUTIFUL!! I absolutely love this song and I am thinking of learning it soon, may I ask how you were able to achieve such a beautiful tone through the recording? Did you place a mic near your piano or was it the camera's audio? Netherless, this is a stunning rendition!!
your handspan make we want to quit piano
great performance
Aryaman Manish Joshi Ha, no keep on playing! It's not about hand span, more about accuracy/strength in fingers.
***** thanks! Im currently learning this piece! :D

@@PaulIsrael hey man just wondering what is your keyspan?
@@Noah-wv4td I have pretty long fingers so i understand lmao. franz liszt is easy for me but something like that would be really hard for me

Wow, that upright piano sounds better than _most_ grands I've played. It's incredible! Might I ask what model it is?
Nice, isn't it! It's a Yamaha U3, about 5 years old.
***** It's beautiful! I'm actually amazed at how percussive it sounds for an upright! Perhaps it's the quality of your playing though.
