It's amazing how easy it is to travel from London to Paris now. When I lived in the UK in the 70s, a trip like that was an all day ordeal, with two slow trains, a 90 minute ferry crossing, and lousy connections with plenty of walking between them.
I just London and Paris remain very distinct cities in terms of culture and everything else. Whenever a connection like this forms, everything becomes homogenous.
You going to love Greek food, the souvlaki, moussaka, gyros (pronounced as Yee-rohs), spanokopita, grilled octopus, their delicious salads & desserts, the sauce tzatziki is divine 😍😀😎
In germany drinks are pretty expensive, because restaurants make their turnover with that, not so much with the food. Maybe that's the reason for France as well.
Hi Mike, You really won’t find the best fish and chips with in london! You should go coastal and get the fish and chips in a takeaway with plenty of salt and vinegar, scraps at the bottom of the paper and the sea air hitting you in the face.. pure perfection
Everyone knows the best chippies are in Northern England. Go to some random town in Yorkshire or Lancashire and I can guarantee it will be miles better than what Mike has had in London.
Last time I tried fish from a local beach chippy. It was a frozen fish and was tiny . Very disappointing. Whitstable in Kent was good in the late 90s. Not anymore. Best fish and chips I ever had was in Lewisham, from a Szechuan restaurant

Thanks Mike, the point of fish and chips is to taste the fish itself, yes we can flavour it with herbs and spices but we appreciate the actual flavour of the fish in the U.K., people think it’s simple and mock us but if they did the same in Japan then people wouldn’t say it’s plain or bland lol they’d be in awe of how tasty simplicity can be and consider it a work of art! 😂
That and American pubs and restaurants tend to give you three times as much (soft and heavy) chips and half as much fish at best, as well as going too heavy on the coating.
That's like saying we appreciate the actual flavour of chicken and then deep frying it. Also don't people in the U.K. often say themselves that their food tends to be bland after experiencing other cultures foods?

i never understood these chill mountains but don't get me wrong, i love spicy food. It looks so much like a waste. Nobody eats them and you could get the taste with a fraction. And then if you accidentally get a chili from the really spicy ones, you just don't taste anything from the dish. "oh the fish is so tasty". Yes you could also put some tree bark on the plate. When the taste buds are 90% numb, it doesn't make a difference anymore. Since you certainly no longer distinguish between good fish and the cheapest frozen goods.

The best fish n chips I’ve ever had was at Bene’s on Cannongate in Edinburgh. I’d always put vinegar and brown sauce on my fish and then dip my chips in some curry sauce. Oh my gosh it was the best!!

I hardly ever comment, but I am looking forward to seeing you try French cuisine. I went to Paris years ago on a school trip, and this has been one regret of mine. I think our tour guide only took us to places where we could get fed cheaply because we were such a large group of students. One day, our guide took us to eat pizza, but it wasn’t quite pizza and it didn’t taste good, either. So, I hope to live vicariously through your videos with good French food, Mike.😆 And maybe one day, I can redo my Paris culinary experience if and when I return.

Can’t speak for the rest of Europe but in the UK soda like coke etc is more expensive cause it’s heavily taxed. It’s our sugar tax to try and limit how much soda people drink!

We had exactly the same fish and chips experience in Charlottown Prince Edward Island in Canada. Best we ever had - including what we experienced during our London trip in the spring.

I love a good fish and chips, we were part of the British Empire and still part of the Commonwealth so appreciate British traditions like this. Tartar sauce is the best thing to dip the fish in, it’s mayo with chopped up pickles for that vinegary kick!
the reason coke is the price it is, is because of the suger tax plus u are in london where prices are double the price due to the amount of tourist that go there. if u go down country to a smaller county u can get a pint of coke for around 2.50/3 pounds
Mikey, I spend a couple of months each year in London….I only get Coke/Coke Zero from the supermarket. You can get a one and a half liter bottle for £1.50-2.00.. The price in restaurants is crazy.

The UK has a sugar tax, so fizzy drinks can be more expensive in restaurants. Not sure about France though.

I love a good fish and chips, we were part of the British Empire and still part of the Commonwealth so appreciate British traditions like this. Tartar sauce is the best thing to dip the fish in, it’s mayo with chopped up pickles for that vinegary kick!

the reason coke is the price it is, is because of the suger tax plus u are in london where prices are double the price due to the amount of tourist that go there. if u go down country to a smaller county u can get a pint of coke for around

Mikey, I spend a couple of months each year in London….I only get Coke/Coke Zero from the supermarket. You can get a one and a half liter bottle for £1.50-2.00.. The price in restaurants is crazy.
