  • Here's a free drum lesson of Spin Doctors' Two Princes. This groove by Aaron Comess includes a very useful ghost note pattern that can be used in many places. I also included an exercise for the opening fill.
    I uploaded a drum cover of this song a few months ago and it's been quite popular. I hope you'll learn something from this video. Aaron Comess liked it and approved it with nice words "You nailed it!"
    The gear used:
    Brady Spotted Gum drums
    Brady 14x5,5 Jarrah Block snare
    Zildjian 14" A Mastersound Hi-Hat, Zildjian 19" A Custom Crash
    Microphones:
    Kick: Shure Beta 52, Yamaha Subkick
    Snare: top Shure Beta 57, bottom Shure SM 57
    Toms: Beyer Dynamic Opus 87
    Overheads: Shure SM 27
    Cameras: Nikon D3200 and Zoom Q3HD

    The drum intro is classic for all whom were listened to the Spin Doctors debut album, but what surprises me is the almost identical drum sound.. I don't know "how deep" this guy went (sampling, because there is enough "meat to cook".. ) , but I think its snare and kick generic sound and correctly recorded properly tuned snare..Maybe two snare mics (upper and lower mic, like SM57x2) and good ears for proper results..On the other hand, it is possible that this sound is recorded with minimal equipment.. Anyway, great job mate 🥁

    Loved it! My Brady Jarrah Ply will be here sometime next week. Can't wait. Can you tell me if you added any reverb or outboard mixing to get the drums to sound so close to Aaron's sound? @KaitsuDrums  9 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @KaitsuDrums

      Emmy, just practise very slowly to get more accurate and you don't have to learn the whole groove right away. Break it down for smaller parts. And a lot of repeats :)

      @jijst5 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      jijst5 Yes I let the stick bounce for double strokes and also use fingers for that, then wrist for a harder strokes. There are a lot of different drum techniques, check out videos of Jojo Mayer, Gordy Knudtson, Jim Chapin, Joe Morello etc.
