Amber's chair dancing is awesome. I could totally picture her (especially with the long hair she's currently sporting) in a long hippy skirt, a flower painted on one cheek and peace sign on the other, bare foot and dancing freely (as most flower power children did back in the day) in the field at Woodstock. 😊

The version from "Mad Dogs & Englishmen" is fire! Rita Coolidge, Donna Washburn, Claudia Lennear and others provide the backing vocals, Jim Price launches into a bebop trumpet solo that Bobby Keys picks up and carries forward in a sax solo for the ages. Sweet!

Per Songfacts: Dave Mason wrote this song and recorded it with his group Traffic in 1968. Included on their self-titled second album, it was released as a single but barely nicked the charts, bubbling under at #123 in America and not placing at all in the UK. The following year, Joe Cocker recorded what has become the most popular version of the song, taking it to #69 in the US with a more upbeat rendition. He included it in his rain-soaked set at Woodstock.

I married young 18 and my wife wanted to go to a local carnival in our community in Florida. We both were absolutely stunned as we were walking by those carnival booths and noticed a full band was set up in a small empty area standing on nothing more than sheets of plywood for the stage. All of a sudden Joe Cocker comes out of nowhere, and starts belting out this song. Had no idea Joe Cocker was throwing a FREE concert, but there he stood right in front of us at eye level at a local carnival. I'll never forget it as long as I live. They kicked butt too.

Mary also put is all on the line when she sings (example: her duet with Mick Jagger on Gimme Shelter). Like Joan Baez, Joe was always able to get top musicians to play on this albums.

I saw Joe Cocker perform this song in concert in 1969. I knew the song but I didn't know who Joe Cocker was at the time. He was a new artist. Nevertheless, he blew my mind.

Joe Cocker was in that "Hippie era" that you love Amber and was one of the acts that played Woodstock in 1969 and sang the song you're reacting to, "Feeling Alright!"

I too remember when I got into Janis Joplin and then heard Joe Cocker and I loved his sound and his rasp. The more you go through in life, the more music touches you and the emotions and rawness makes you want to belch it out. They add another dimension to music

Let’s Go Get Stoned is a classic, as well as Darling Be Home Soon, Joe Cocker developed his tone by listening to Ray Charles, respect to the GOAT, so soulful and wild

John Belushi, who you know from the Blues Brothers as well as an original cast member from Saturday Night Live, does a great impression of Joe Cocker. In fact he has performed Joe Cocker songs in character in SNL several times. Here is a link to John Belushi and Joe Cocker singing Feelin' Alright together as a duet, again with John doing his impression of Joe: th-cam.com/video/-6m1M5p6Kqk/w-d-xo.html

@@violetflame23 I don't see "woke" as a bad thing, so I enjoy SNL just as much now as I did in the '70s.

You need to just take the leap and watch the movie Mad Dogs and Englishmen with Joe Cocker, Leon Russell and many of the band members that recorded Layla and All Things Must Pass. You can see Joe's songs on TH-cam with the Mad Dogs and they are all exceptional!

Oklahoman Leon Russell was the 'secret sauce' for that whole rythym section. Texans Jim Price (trumpet) and Bobby Keys (sax) were the horns. Rita Coolidge was one of the backup singers. Most of those folks are in the photo on the back of Eric Clapton's first solo LP (along with Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett, who first assembled the band).
