One of Joe C's best, covering a Ray Charles classic! Next, I hope you do "The Letter". He also did a marvelous duet with Jennifer Warnes called "Up Where We Belong", which was from "An Officer And a Gentleman", a terrific movie that I'm sure you'll watch someday. It stars Richard Gere and Debra Winger. Louis Gossett Jr. won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for it.

Joe Cocker, the most prolific cover man! 147 covers and 37 originals. The man is phenomenal! He takes an old song and gives it New birth. Most of the songs that he covers, I prefer his versions. This is one of those beautifully rich covers!

No one covers a song like Joe Cocker. His raw wounded voice comes from the belly of the beast. It is the wounded soul that makes real. Try coming away from his songs like FEELING ALRIGHT without being lifted by the sermon on his voice. Or the ragged dread he brings to Beatles song COME TOGETHER. I love the sound of Joe Cocker because you will never hear it today. Because of the often sterile, perfect nature of music today, he would never be given a chance with today's audience. But we were lucky enough to appreciate the genuine quality and soul he lived and breathed into his music. And that is why he is missed.

The one and only Joe Cocker was fantastic, but people don’t give enough credit to his backing crew on Mad Dogs and Englishmen. The crew was put together and led by Tulsan, Leon Russell. Leon had several members from Tulsa including one of the member’s sister as a backup singer. That unmistakable “Tulsa Sound” is definitely Leon’s stamp.

In 1972 my dad was a part time Limousine driver here in Sydney and on odd ocassions would ferry some well known celebrities around town, to night clubs , people's houses etc. One of those was Joe Cocker , while he was here in Sydney and Melbourne performing concerts during that year. Apart from tipping my Dad $100 one night after taking him to a night club which was a lot of money back them for a Limo Driver , my dad always said he was one of the nicest blokes he'd ever met. A true gentlemen, down to earth and a good soul. Sadly missed by all who knew him.

D: So chuffed. Sat watching this with a smile on my face. Have suggested this video a number of times and so pleased you love it. This is close to one of my favourite songs and it is one of those where you are always left wanting more of it. This is by far the best version of this song IMO

Every note starts in his toes, climbs up his leg bones, churns around in that chest somewhere, and comes out as clear as blood. Viva Joe Cocker,

First listened to the album With a Little Help From My Friends when I was in grade 7 or 8 and he’s been part of the playlist ever since. About the same time as the White Album and Tumbleweed Connection. I love seeing your reactions to all these great musicians👍🏼👍🏼

Joe's version of John Sebastian's "Darling, Be Home Soon" is a beauty.
ALSO: Was that "The Big Man" on sax?

I was a senior in high school when this album by Joe Cocker came out. Saw him sing this on Jonnie Carson and immediately thought it was such a killer rendition. "When The Night Comes" is great and was used in the Tom Selleck movie An Innocent Man.

I hear saxophone in a song i melt into my seat. Alto sax in the marching band through the late 70's. 10 years of piano lessons and self taught on the acoustic guitar. Piano and sax are my favorites. Please check out the song called " my kind of lady " by supertramp, the sax work is unreal.

Ray Charles called Joe Cocker “my one true disciple.” That’s it. That’s the list.

In 1987, I got to be in the studio audience of the David Letterman show, and Joe Cocker was on the show that night, singing this song!
