ENGINE HEATING! HOW HOT CAN IT GET? HIGH EXHAUST, ENGINE & OIL TEMPERATURE TEST BAJAJ DOMINAR

  • Combustion & friction are the primary reason for for the heat generated inside the engine. How long should you warm up the engine before riding? How high can the exhaust bend pipe temperature go? Is 2 minute warm up enough? For how long should you idle the engine? How to cold start an engine? When does the radiator fan starts?
    COOLANT USED: amzn.to/2oJGtqn
Heating up a cold engine can be a need in extremely cold regions when temperature drops below zero, but for our regular temperatures of 20-30°C do we need to warm up our engines? Why is warming up the engine necessary?
    Temperature Gun: amzn.to/3cthkNc
    Tool kit 1: amzn.to/2P0Grpd
    Tool kit 2: amzn.to/2PzQ9Qt
In this video we will check the rise in the engine as well as the oil temperature right from when the engine is cranked for the first time. Further in the video we will check the external block temperature as well as the engine oil temperature at 1 minute interval. The final observation on the engine were made after running the engine at idle for about 10 minutes.
    In this video:
    1. Engine warm up.
    2. Modern engines with sensors.
    3. What warm up does to the engine.
    4. Engine temperature in carburetor engine.
    5. Experiment for testing engine and its oil temperature.
    6. Need for a thermal camera.
    7. Present equipment: infrared thermometer & industrial thermometer.
    8. No dipstick in Dominar.
    9. Measuring temperature in Bajaj Dominar.
    10. Cold temperature test on Bajaj Dominar.
    11. Temperature after 1 minute of idle on the Bajaj Dominar.
    12. Temperature after 2 minute of idle on the Bajaj Dominar.
    13. Radiator fan on time.
    14. Coolant in Bajaj Dominar.
    15. Temperature after 10 minute of idle on the Bajaj Dominar.
    16. High rpm/redlining a cold engine and hot engine.
    17. Engine oil at cold temperature and during first start of the day.

Yes everyone would like to see the same observation test on rtr 200 which is an oil cooled engine and also any other air cooled engine too. Would be nice to plot the temperatures and conditions as a table for quick cross reference or even to plot a graph to know the differences.

I always wait for 30 seconds after turning on the bike for engine to warm up for carburetor based bikes for smooth ride. I have noticed that even 30 seconds is not enough and when we give acceleration there is some pick up drop might be due to dried up fuel.

When I bought my TVS Ntorq BS6 model, the showroom personnel told me to let it idle until the vibes are gone. Whenever I start my engine, the motor seems to work fast and makes the scooter vibrate a bit. But after 10 seconds or so the vibes settle and the engine runs smoother. That's when I usually start my journey.

I dont know why this is happening, you post the video exactly according to my needs. Found your channel when i was into tvs apache rtr200 and was really amazed with the quality and usefulness of your content. At last bought my first new bike, was supposed to be a rtr200 but the new headlight design ruined it for me. Was really shocked why would tvs change that gorgeous headlight unit( looks are subjective i know) and settled with the mt15. It doesnt have a center stand so i always sit on the bike to make it upright and set it to idle it until the rpm settles down from 2k to 1.2-1.5k. Btw great content! Keep it up!

I have a habit of warming up my 2014 Duke 200 from day one for 2 minutes before the first ride of the day only to ensure that the engine oil had lubricated the engine internals sufficiently before i start riding the engine with the load. Have also tried riding without warm up and there was a marginal difference between the 2 rides. Nevertheless, I feel its always a good practice to warm up for 2 minutes.

Hello brother, I am in little dilemma and little tensed so, need your help.
Earlier I was not noticing my dominar radiator fan when it's kicking in. But recently I did that.
In cold start radiator fan kicks in in 10mins and also feel heating on both sides of legs. while riding on normal traffic, also radiator fan gets on. Is my dominar heats fast than the normal? Someone in youtube told me his dominar takes one hour to on the radiator fan and told me to check with the mechanic.
I went today at service center and discussed with him about this matter, the mechanic could not find any issue, hence he told ride your bike if you feel any issue then come back.
Brother I want to know exact mechanism of cooling system of dominar 2017 model, like what is the time frame to be radiator fan gets kicked in, and when radiator should radiator fan on? In normal traffic is radiator gets kicked in? What ever things i feel is that normal or abnormal? Kindly elaborate it so that I can get the information and can share it to others who feel its a fault.

    • @thesportztourer
      @thesportztourer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tapas,
The Radiator fan kicks in when engine (coolant) reaches certain temperature. This system is basically temperature based and is fairly independent of the engine on time. Example: Your radiator fan may not kick in if you run the engine in sub zero degree celsius temperature for long time but may start in summer traffic ride in under 5 minutes. Even I have experienced the radiator fan kicking in under 10 minutes which is absolutely fine.
If it is concerning you then kindly check reply to the following points:
      1. Present coolant level.
      2. Engine oil level and colour.
      3. When was the air filter replaced?
      4. Sparkplug replaced?
      5. Which oil are you using now? How is your experience with it?

      @tapasroutray6792 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@thesportztourer1. recently I get serviced done, there changed my stock coolant to motul moto cool and the level is fine.
2.Recently changed the engine oil from stock to liqui moly 10w50 Street with mos2.(experience is really fabulous, engine became smooth and gear shifting also became very smooth, also feel lesser vibration but at a speed of 85-90km/hr I get some vibration from handle bar, and footpack and below the seat respectively) over all good experience with liqui moly.
3.New oil filter changed as well.
      4. Spark plug could not clean or changed only. And the rest did.
No fault from the engine, it runs superb and also sound comes very smooth and punchy. I was only having the issue about radiator fan, which my mechanic also did not find any issue.
Everything is fine with my bike only I have a radiator fan on timing and engine temperature which touches 96 degree in just 15 mins of cold start. Is it normal?

Which oil are you using now? How is your experience with it?

      @@thesportztourer hi,
Currently it is honda stock oil. I bought the bike a week before which was sitting idle after the last oil change in March and not even driven 100kms i guess. My short term experience: i felt the gear changeing is a bit sluggish and not quite smooth ride.

Honda throttle is good but going by the experience of many CBR 250R riders you can go for Advance ultra: amzn.to/2ALmgt6
As your running is on lower side you can switch annually. Regarding gear shifts you can check the clutch free play and drive chain.

Is bajaj 10,000km oil claim valid for pulsar?

    • @monishm2128
      @monishm2128 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Please don't take the engine oil interval to 10k km even if manufacturers claim so. Even with the most premium synthetic oils, performance starts to degrade at around 4-5k kms and at max it can stretch to 6k kms. Leaving such a used engine oil will definitely not do good to your engine.
      Cheers ✌️

@@sachit7836 please don't run more than 4-5k km for synthetic oil as the pulsar 150 doesn't have oil cooler. Semi synthetic max 3-4k km and please avoid mineral oils for the grade necessary for pulsar 150 which is 20w50. Go for Motul 5100 15w50 which is giving good results on a friend's pulsar.
