    • @TheUncivilizedNation
      @TheUncivilizedNation ปีที่แล้ว +43

      @@eugene9211 the answer to this question was written centuries ago.
      In James 2:26 we read, “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” The context of this verse is found in James 2:14-26. In these verses, James is rebuking those who claim to have faith in Christ but don't show it by their good works.
      As you can see “Faith without Works is Dead” comes from God not Man
      The works themselves are laid out to us as well. Some of the most notable include following the 10 Commandments, avoiding the 7 Deadly Sins, loving thy neighbor, the entire book of Proverbs, and many many others. Performing these works and living with Faith are the two keys to achieving Salvation
      There’s a reason we are encouraged to read the entire Bible multiple times

      Since it can be rephrased as the battle for everyone's souls, it's difficult to take lightly.
      And since each teaching makes a claim of truth that invalidates the others, the conversation eventually reaches a point where someone has to say "everything you believe is wrong" or something to that effect.
      It's further complicated by humans having great difficulty in seeing things the way God or god(s) would see things. So, a seemingly reasonable or logically consistent answer can still be dead wrong when dealing with a miraculous entity.

      Something that's always bothered me about religion as a whole is how in most cases religious parents will force their children into religion, and aethiest parents will force their children into aethism.
      There's nothing wrong with being a religious person or not, but children should not be taught that religious standpoints are true or false as fact. Usually the children who are exposed to this are so young that they haven't developed critical thinking skills, and they can't tell true from false on their own.
      I'm not saying religion *is* false, nor that is *is* true. Just that people should be allowed to develop their own thoughts on it instead of relying on bias.

      This video is a perfect example of what I mean. Conflict.
      Both sides of the argument defend their respective opinion with every rational arguments that they can use. Sometimes they even default to irrational arguments because, a as a conflict, you can’t bear to loose.
      Regardless watching this video, both the pretentious atheist and condescending christian (and hell even Volkeh and FC at times) do make several decent arguments, back and forth.

    That last analysis about prayers was pretty interesting, too bad the Christian didn’t care about it. I do also say a lot of prayers when I feel out of control and it’s pretty much instinct at this point. I don’t know if it should be changed but I don’t see any downside to it as long as you don’t start believing you can actually change stuff. That would be delusional lol.

      @@christopherbravo1813 If that were true, wouldn’t every human would pray to god in those moments? Like, even babies would resort to praying to god in hope for a god, but that’s not what happens, they are more prone to call for their parents in situations they feel they have no control over, because in the sparkling despair we want someone or something to save us, usually someone we think has the ability to help us. In the case of kids or people who grew without religion in their life, they resort to the ones they feel are above them in terms of “power”, as in the ability to control situations.
      I personally don’t believe in god but I still think it can make people have a bit more hope in their life if they need it. I’m not trying to disprove his existence with this argument either, I just want to expand on the argument you made and get a better perspective of what you mean.

    As an Orthodox Christian, I believe that all religions have become conflated with nationalism and politics. When most people say they're religious, they aren't, they just support traditional ethno-centric values. If ppl were to actually look into these faiths, nationality, and in some cases conservatism and traditional values, have nothing to do with it. But we live in a world where archconservative racists like Volkeh and that one guy (whose username gives off SUPER condescending god complex vibes btw) call themselves Christian and give Christianity a bad name even though they have no idea what they're talking about, which deters people and creates atheists like that other guy, who want nothing to do with religion at all, to the point of vehemently hating it. As agitating as Magni could be, OMOM is the epitome of "There's no hate like Christian love."
    This is why you don't bring religion up in conversation. Everyone turns their brains off and ceases logical thought because, as was stated in a previous video, beliefs are not flexible. If you believe something, you know it to be true, and thus you know others who believe something else to be false and want to save them from their "stupidity."

    • @endernightblade1958

      @zettovii1367 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Think the flexibility of the belief, depends a lot on why you believe on something.
      If you believe in something because you think it's the absolute truth, then nothing will convince you otherwise.
      But if you believe in something for no other reason than because it **seems** convincing to you, then at least you are open to change your stance the moment you find something even more persuasive.

    • @FelixFalora
      @FelixFalora ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@zettovii1367 It has been argued before on this channel that such a stance is not truly ardent belief. It is still a stance, and it can be based on available information or how you were taught, but lack of conviction keeps it from being a proper belief.
      That conviction is definitely why OMOM and Magni got so toxic at each other for being opposites. One sees the other as a deluded, misinformed fool who bases his life around a fictitious deity, unwilling to comprehend the good that religion has brought, but the other sees one as a wretched, rebellious child who is condemning himself to eternal torment and pain, ignoring the evils that religion has taken part of.
      Both believe so strongly that flexibility was never an option. They are right, and damn you for thinking other wise.

    15:41 It's strange because being all these things comes from a person's morals, not religion. I've seen "christians" doing awful stuff, and it doesn't go only country wise. True Christianity doesn't want to go "hey you go to hell" as it goes against their own doctrines.
    Volkeh has a point about churches being corrupt (although he doesn't explain how, and doubt that he would do), it has not only happened recently, but from past eras, again, it comes more as morality or how humans can be easily swayed when they don't have much knowledge. A case very known in my country (Brazil) is about how the churches were preaching to vote on one candidate, despite him being *completely* against every point from said religion, and posted several fake news demoralizing the oponent. Again, this comes from the already existent or made-up morals.

    "Is he God because he performs righteous acts, or are his acts righteous because he is God?"
    People who use God as an excuse to perform horrendous acts tend to fall into the latter category as God in of himself is justification.
    I bring this up as a counter to the claims of God being "objective". In the 1800s, both sides for snd against slavery used the Bible and claimed God for justification.
    Point is, even the most die hard christians have their own personal perceotions of "God", thats why we have sect. God is if anything extremely subjective but masquerades as objevtivity because of his all knowing status.

    I don't think Mouth Meal understands that like... Christianity and Nihilism don't have to be exclusive from each other, yeah?
    If everything is going according to God's script, and nobody except for a deity we can't directly contact has _any_ idea what that script looks like, then what's stopping you from doing whatever? If it's all predetermined, you might as well make your own plans instead of just lying on the floor waiting for whatever to happen. Have some fun while you're part of this world, live the life He gave you instead of wasting it.

      It was honestly surprising to hear him not understand the basics of nihilism. I was taught about such in Sunday school. We had arguments about predestination along side nihilism. About if we had any choice in our actions or if we were just stuck following a script. We ended the talk on that God decides who does believe in him and is a Christian and decides who doesn't or God can see how every decision and see the butterfly affect of that decision.

      @@alaina4070 My belief is more akin to the latter. God gave us free will for a reason. He knows what choices we will make, yes, but He doesn't make the decisions for us. I'm not who I am because I am forced to be. My own choices and those of everyone around me are the reason why I am the person I am today.

    That is some sweet toxicity, I hope I never interact with these people, I'm worried I'll lose what little faith I have in humanity if I did. Thanks for showing us these clowns though very entertaining although I'm surprised these guys felt like they were giving Volkeh a run for his money this time.
