RANT ON!... and some sales
Hi Simon. Another great video - informative as ever. My husband works for Royal Mail, and they don't scan the parcels until they arrive at the Sorting Office, or Main Hub. I believe eBay are now taking that scan rather than the Post Office scan as proof of dispatch. They have done this in the States for years, you had to actually get the parcel scanned by their equivalent of Royal Mail, dropping it off isn't enough. So, as I mentioned I think eBay are adopting this system in the UK. You have to rely on your Royal Mail main Sorting Office, or Hub to scan your item before it's recognised as being in the system. Also it may depend on where you live in the UK, as to how quickly your parcels are dealt with and put 'officially' into the system. Let's see how this develops, because I'm absolutely certain it's not just you and Faye that are being affected by this. All those years of hard work and consistency and it's put at risk by an eBay glitch! Shame they haven't explained themselves on this topic, but do they ever? Good Luck and please make another video about this. I think we're all keen to know what happens next.
Thanks for all of the info. No matter what the circumstances behind this are, if there's a change which clearly there has been around beginning of August, please just let sellers know so they can adjust.
Hi Simon I'm a occasional private seller selling my own clothes bags etc.this year I listed some of my own pre loved items.from may to july.many repeat buyer had top seller status.i often promoted at 3.pc. 100 pc feedback.in august I had no listings eBay messaged to say I am now below standard.im not a business I sell if I have a clear out of wardrobes etc.i post next day.no cases at any point.yet i was deemed below standard.they took my promotion away.just listed 6 items.30 September.ive sold occasionally since 2014.if having a clear out at home.just thought I'd see what happens.im retired only sell occasionally couple times year.i feel for you and Faye as this is your livelihood.i don't get the below standard for no reason.used to be do easy on eBay.its chaotic.i only sell couple timed year.. they aren't easy to deal with.i post a lot of parcels to family and use 48 tracked now.to avoid lost items. So will use this for eBay.i only list max 25 items if I'm de cluttering.i don't get the below seller when feedback is great.
I think there’s a certain volume you have to sell to be Top. After that is defects but as a percentage 1 defect would be huge on lower sales
When parcels are received by the Post office they are not technically in the hands of Royal Mail. It would appear that by taking the parcels to the post office in the late afternoon the post office are not bagging their post up in time for their last collection so your parcels may not be being handed to RM until the next day. You may find by taking them earlier in the day preferably in the morning they may move on that day and may solve your problem. Some rural post offices have less collections than larger post offices, sometimes only one a day. Try asking your post office what time they have collections. Hope this helps.
Having now watched further in the video and see they were despatched at 5.05 pm. It is highly unlikely they will move from post office to the Royal Mail, that late in the day. EBay should have “accepted by Royal Mail “ as opposed to “despatched” on their terms and conditions. It used to say on the bottom of the post office receipt. Accepted before last collection and then Y for yes or N for no. I’m not sure if they still do or not because I have mine collected from my home.
Thanks for your ideas, I’m often there when they’re being collected, and never afterwards. I know them well, we chat etc and I know their routines, so it’s not that.
My local Post Office states that you have to post parcels before 4.30 pm which is when there collection is. They stay open a further hour so I know if I dont get there before 4.30 my item is not moving till the next day.
We realised about 1 year ago rm 2nd class post is NOT TRACKED as we had the same issue and moved to 48 tracked which solved all the problems. RM 2nd class is snail mail and anything like 24 or 48 tracked takes priority over 2nd class. I also spoke to my rm delivery man and they don’t have to scan the item for 2nd class it’s down the the individual postman. EBay need to remove 2nd class from their tracked list as it is not a fully tracked service 😊
The mind boggles doesn’t it. Unfortunately though we’re getting the same problem with 24/48.
We have a 2 day despatch but ensure that all our parcels are packed and taken to the post office before 10am the next day, the first pick up by RM is 11am this ensures we are 24 hours ahead of schedule and stops late defects
Can you get the premium badge with that set up?
@@Married2Resellingdon’t know but we don’t do free shipping or free returns so unsure
Oh yeah it wouldn’t then
The issue is, that Royal Mail and post office are different companies, the way to avoid all this is get them to pick the items up at your house. Then Royal mail have them and your see them scan it in. If you book enough pick ups, then they will come every day. They do take extra parcels
Thank you. Problem for us is that we’re not always around for collections, and there’s not a suitable safe space.
@@Married2Reselling Tough one, hope you can sort it out
@@Married2Reselling there is one other thing you can do, that's a work around.
That's not to upload the tracking. I do that with 2nd class stuff when we get close to the 3%.
Mark it as dispatched. I know it's more work, but will save the issue with with losing your status. It's just a big game!
Yup, thanks, it might come to that, would instantly lose an INR case with no tracking, but might be considering it as we close in on the next evaluation date
I do RM pick ups occasionally, the only thing about that though is you don't get given an actual receipt - personally, that makes me a little uncomfortable, as I prefer a hard-copy receipt in case there are any issues down the line as at least there is something to show someone. I know they should scan things in in front of you, but if anything goes wrong, I'd rather not have to do battle to prove they'd collected it. I don't usually get an email confirming it's collected, although I have had a few emails when they've tried to collect a parcel and I wasn't there.
I don't use RM anymore, courier services only. They might be a little dearer but in the long run it works out best value.
I will only use Royal Mail if I absolutely have to. Every other courier has been better for me and I sell breakables. However, regardless of who we choose to use, this is an eBay problem and they need to fix it!
Weird isn't it I only use RM as other Couriers just leave stuff on steps and loss items .
Must be an area thing 🤔🤔
I watched the whole video it doesn’t matter how long it was as you were detailing the issues and their ridiculous responses and trying to get answers. As others have mentioned reach out to Nic & Andrea as they are now on an eBay panel and it is an important issue to bring up. Thanks for fighting this and hopefully you will get a resolution!
Thanks, can’t please everyone in youtubeland haha perhaps I’ll give them a refund…… oh wait!
I've just started buying my postage labels through ebay and and I dispatch same day. Many items are turning up late, this was not an issue when I was purchasing postage outside of ebay. It's very frustrating when ebay shows it as not dispatched on time
Feel your pain
I use Royal Mail doorstep collections so my items are scanned at the doorstep by Royal Mail. I don’t have to be in as it’s safe here and I can leave things in an agreed safe place. Having watched your despair I am grateful I do this as I am a good way from a parcel shop and gave up driving a year ago due to a disability. I do hope this issue gets resolved for you somehow x edit I do only use tracked48 though, got sick of the false not received claims.
Thank you 🙏
After the RM strikes I stopped using 2nd class and now just used tracked 48. Rarely have any issues.
That’s good 👍
The only certain way is to drop parcels off at your local Royal Mail sorting office and get them scanned in there- not always doable if you don't have one close
Thanks, yes ours isn’t convenient at all but still working at getting eBay to fix it
Are you sure it's not your Post Office that has a scanning issue? Mine update when dropped off at post office and have had no defects.
I'd try a different Post office first to see if that does anything
I second this I only use royal mail and have done for 2 years....No problems at my post office at all
Funnily enough, I used a different one on Wednesday and they are correctly showing as Accepted at Parcelshop. I checked yesterdays which were dropped at my usual place and those are also showing as Accepted at Parcelshop. Perhaps this is fixed, let’s hope it’s fixed enough to bring our defect rate down which is now currently over 3% 🤦🏻♂️
I have given up offering same day dispatch but do still post the same day purely in the hope Royal Mail might get it there in the estimated delivery time. I have argued with eBay that they need to look at the estimated delivery times as it’s Royal Mail not fulfilling their estimated times not the seller.
even on a longer dispatch, the moment you hand the parcel over, the delivery clock starts ticking.
Just a quick question, I might of missed this part, but when you go to the parcel shop, do you hand over each item individually to be scanned or do you take in a large bag with the postal tag on it, I set all my listings to be a 2 day dispatch and use RM48 tracked and signed for items over £50 and Royal mail 2nd class signed for items under £50 ( I like the signature, stops people saying it must of been delivered to the wrong house) But I am thinking of changing to a 3 day dispatch, but still dispatch within 2 days, therefore, over-delivering on the promised dispatched date, it may lose a few sales, but it is better than eBays crazy defects......maybe in Decemeber, I will keep the same postage and dispatch times, but perhaps, use 1st class recorded and RM24 tracked and signed for to stop any moaners.
yes, we hand each parcel over individually and get a receipt for each item. It doesn't matter how soon you dispatch, delivery estimate is measured based on the service used/advertised. So even on a long dispatch, the moment you hand the parcel over, the delivery clock starts ticking.
@@Married2Reselling Fair enough, you would think, that having each parcel scanned, would make all the difference, eBay generally will not fix the situation quickly, they just keep on cracking the whip, then they wonder why sellers become fed up.
Just a quick extra thought, the issue appears to be based on the item showing as not been dispatched on time, so the longer dispatch time might help, even though the delivery time might be late based on the service, as it might give that extra day for the Royal mail to sync up with ebay to show the dispatch date.
Yes, but I was trying to make clear in the video, if you’re aiming for the eBay premium badge, a longer dispatch won’t allow that.
To resolve this, buy Royal Mail labels direct from Royal Mail click and drop site and do not upload the tracking. Another way is to use another courier, I use yodel for anything not a large letter through parcel2go their scans update on drop off at the shop and I have no defects, secret is not to upload Royal Mail tracking as their system simply does not log when you drop something off, only when it is received at the hub 🤷♀️
Maybe raise this to Nic and Andrea as they are now acting on our behalf with eBay
Yes, it’s what we used to do up until 2 years ago, would be a shame to have to go back to that slower process just because of some sort of glitch.
@@Married2Reselling I agree but unfortunately they really don’t care the less info you give them the better, it’s not that much slower now just postcode and house number and name copy and paste that’s the only way not to get any defects you are still providing the same level of service as you always were they just don’t have the info to be able to wrongfully ding you
Totally get it. The risk with that (unless somethings changed) is that in the case of an INR, I don’t believe eBay accept tracking that wasn’t uploaded when shipped, I may be wrong. Saying that, the odd loss has got to be better than losing top rated seller!
@@Married2Reselling yes they do I only upload if there is an issue and it’s fine no problems 😊
Hi Simon, do you always use the same post office? Just checked my recent sales and all seems fine. Although the allocation time of the tracking number seems to be recorded at weird timings like 6am so that does not correspond with when I print the label. I think I did notice some items weren’t being scanned a few weeks back but all seems ok now…..regards
We do often use the same PO, they scan them in front of me and hand me the receipts. It’s weird.
I have to say, I stopped using RM ages ago. I send everything Evri - fine bone china too.
Have you tried shipping earlier in the day to see if that makes a difference? My post office gets collections at 11, 2 & 5, if I post in time for the 5pm collection the “item received scan” will be around 9am following morning, but early in the collections can get a same day scan
Yes, it is clear that they're not going off the PO scan and there's a chance by taking them earlier they may pickup the depot scan. If, buts and maybes don't really help a business that is run on processes. I'll drop one in first thing in the morning one day next week and see.
The EDD has been a huge headache for sellers. You won't get anywhere from eBay unfortunately. I have changed to RM48 and don't offer second class anymore. If you offer free delivery it is a bit of a hit but worth it in the time you save on INR claims and late deliveries.
If only it was working for us!
Only use Royal Mail if I have to
I had a defect marked as late delivery. All items were collected by RM postman at the same time.... All others arrived on time, the one defect from one late that stated it was dispatched the same morning it was delivered. 🤯
blows your mind doesn’t it
Everybody LEAVE eBay they are a disgrace of a company. The faster people realise it and stop feeding their beast system, the quicker another platform can appear with the solution. I’m fully on Vinted at the moment and LOVING it. No fees, easy listing and no more scummy eBay who dont respect the same people who keep their dead platform alive!
Vinted is super simple compared to the others, lets hope it stays that way when Business accounts are available 🙏 🤞
Oh guys! i dearly wish i could help, i can feel your frustration Simon, and you can tell it's literally doing your head in!! Ebay are a JOKE, the not funny kind. Can Nick and Andrea give you an ebay connection by any chance? after the BS they dealt with that time? Who ever they spoke to managed to help them out, so maybe that person is high up enough in ebay to help you guys, and actually care, more to the point! Good luck Simon, dnt give up!!
Thank you
Have a word with Nick hills. Not necessarily with your problem but he might know who to speak to. I know he's had a lot of problems in the past. He may be able to point you in the right direction
Thanks!
i use RM 48 and have no issue, tracks as soon as i drop it at post office and buy on eBay. sorry your having issues Simon and Fay, this would drive me bad :(
Thanks for sharing. Doesn’t seem to be affecting everyone, but we’ve had messages from others experience it the same madness.
i had a lot of issues like you with royal mail infact our post office wont accept any mail with a royal mail label thats been done through ebay so switched to evri and problems stopped but this should not be happening and yes the staff at customer service are just people acting like robots and reading from scripts cos ebay do not provide the right amount of training to them
Great comment! Computer says no!
Let's be honest ,eBay don't give a ...about sellers these days
I'd be interested to know if people with this issue all go in person to the post office. My mail is collected from my storage place. (Still have 3.40% late rate but that's my fault)
I've had terrible problems with royal mail. They've now lost a tracked 48 to gsp. Also I have noticed if I dispatch an item on Sunday 48 HR tracked the date shown for delivery to customer is Tuesday. I can't physically take parcels to post til Monday, then allow 2-3 day for travelling, how can it possibly get there for Tues. No wonder we get late defects. I am so lucky I spoke to someone and it got taken off but so worried about it now.
All we can do is keep our eye on the %
Most CS are like that now "copy and paste" merchants from their crib sheets! There to fob you off / make you go away. No interest in your issue whatsoever! Winds you even more!
You mentioned 4pm, are your parcels getting to the post office before the collection cut off? If not wont be collected till next day, and the "item received" notification usually the day after that when they reach a "Hub" mail centre would that account for the discrepancy?
The collection is 5:20-5:30 and I never miss it. But if I did, I’d expect the item to potentially arrive late, but the drop off scan should still show as Accepted.
@@Married2Reselling Yes that is the time for the last collection, But they can't be at all the post offices in your area at that time simultaneously? They start collecting around 4pm onwards in experience... Looks like their going off "item received"?
I’m always there when they collect, I drop off and stay for a chat, they lock the door on me when I leave.
@@Married2Reselling Not sure what is going on then...
Check your shipping policies and be sure you have the correct time zone and every listing has the same policy?????
Yep, we’re tight on the shipping policies and checked time zone in Postage Preferences, all good there too…
The time you spent arguing with eBay could spent making money clearly a problem just go on longer dispatch the money you would have saved is pennies and your time and account worth lot more,.
It’s very true, we do want to offer the premium badge though… would just love them to fix it, you are right though - is it all worth it?!
@@Married2Reselling It definitely isn't worth it. Buyers aren't interested in any 'premium badge', whatever that means.... they just want what they paid for, within a reasonable time. If your feedback is at or very near 100%, that's all that matters as regards your 'status' as a trustworthy seller. Ebay have made a simple system complicated by adding these extra layers of perceived status, but these add negligible benefits to your business compared to the effort and time you have to put in to getting this virtual badge.
I got gdpr yesterday when i asked why the post office acceptance scan is not shown on the ebay interface. I may need to do next day RM collection which means item is posted later and i need to be at home waiting for collection.
I just checked an item. Buyer paid at 16.57. I bought postage and gave tracking number at 10.07 that morning!
It’s so peculiar
@@Married2Reselling Just looked at community chat for this week, EDD and more GPSR discussions
The system engineers are buggering about behind the scenes with the simplified postage system that I notice is usable on my private account, this system does not have Royal Mail partnering with it so I believe eBay does not care as they ultimately hope business sellers will adopt it too when it goes live for us. Personally I have started moving away from items that do not go RM48 and moved to 2day despatch although I despatch next day in hope that my defect level goes back to zero where it has been for over 8 years before all this BS.
Thanks for sharing, yes, ours was 0.00% for years and years… until this
Simon. Once again you are spot on and flying the flag for us all. Complete joke .
Appreciate it 🙏
I sympathise with the problem. But a 41 minute video 😂
It was twice as long before editing 🤣
Could this possibly be related to their infamous Horizon system and the multiple glitches it has?!!? 🤔 (Post Office System)
Well, I don't think that theory could be easily discounted 😀
Unfortunately can't be proved either and wouldn't be admitted in our lifetime!
Just change postage to RM 48 tracked, tailor in the slight increase in postage in your listings. Job done. Never had a problem with late deliveries, been selling for 24 years ..... Honestly, for your own mental health, change your practices regarding postage, and put this episode down to experience. The only person who this is affecting is yourself, Ebay are just a profit making machine who care little about a chagrined Ebay seller.
Orders affected are RM48 tracked & 2nd/1st class, so that’s not going to fix the issue unfortunately. Been 0.00 for as long as we can remember, until something changed in August, and it wasn’t us that changed. It wouldn’t be right to ignore it and lose TRS because of it.
Watched some of your video between cooking, i have two ebay sites and i am premium seller, just looked at both my late delivery rates and both are 0.00 the only thing i do is send items Royal Mail tracked 48 but i don"t use ebay shipping service i use the Royal Mail one and upload the tracking myself, might help.
Thanks, occasionally we buy direct from RM, it’s quite a lot slower that way. What speed delivery do you advertise?
@@Married2Reselling Same day until 14.00 then next day.
Thanks!
Uses a non tracked service , acts suprised when no tracking info is logged. Meh.
🎣 they get scanned in and registered as dropped off, so it makes no sense why that’s not good enough 🎣
I understand the difference in the services. Nice name btw.
You need to combine with Nick & Andrea, they have some direct contacts worth exp0loring.
Thanks
Maybe contact a newspaper?
Ive lost my top rated now due to late delivery
That sucks, have you tried to fight it?
@@Married2Reselling no I stopped bothering with customer service a long time ago, cause you say they are terrible and just a waste of my time
