I don't believe so. It's the same "setting" whether front facing or rear facing

Did you figure it out? I’m trying to figure it out but when I use the setting the manual tells me while forward facing her thighs are squished

No, the straps do not slide off. You can adjust them to your comfort level and they should remain secure
