I’ve only fitted one set of bifolds myself but was pre glazed units on a timber framed build so was more squaring the frame and long periods of just heavy lifting holding. This will come in handy along with the credit card purchase protection. Used to work in credit cards myself ages ago but never dealt with the consumer protection side, I know that’s a different video but it’s got me future planning ! Cheers

Only half way through but had to pause and comment to say, I completely agree, bloody winds me up watching a "how to" video and they say, right now we're onto this bit, and it's like, woah what did you do between these two sections to get there, pointless. I leave a 10 to 12mm gap up the sides of frames when installing in block and render walls, then fit the expanding foam tape after installed, makes it easy. ALSO if you make the opening tight to the frame, you loose too much frame behind the rendered reveals.
Ah that would be a nightmare tucking this width of tape in 😂 I know people do it afterwards but I'm sure that's only 20mm tape or something

I have some questions...
1. Those triple glazing packers, is the only difference that they're a bit wider? Surely you could get away with using the regular ones? Or cutting the regular ones down so that their length is the same width as the triple glazing packers?
2. Why are the non toe and heel packers needed if the thermal break foam stuff is in there supporting the glazed unit all the way around?
3. How come you didn't fit the sill to the frame before installing them? I guess just because it would have been too unwieldy to flip the massive frames over (twice) ?
Must be so frustrating to have to deal with the laziness of the fabricators, but I guess they're probably unskilled workers who are paid peanuts... But you'd think / hope thay they'd do a more professional job at this price point!

So the triple glazing Packers support all 3 panes of glass, yes you could use double glazing Packers and cut the length to the same width as a triple glazing Packers but then you're dealing with several Packers that are all falling out as you're trying to position them 😂 I bought the triple Packers so I could keep my sanity.
The foam backer rod isn't supporting the glass, it's just providing additional thermal enhancement. The additional Packers are for enhanced security, they're used to stop someone flexing the frames past the locks with a crow bar basically. So 1mm of flex is better than 5mm for example. They're needed to pass the security ratings and new regs.
I fixed the cill first as per the manufacturers guide. It also comes down to preferences really, I'd rather do it as I did because it's easier to get a proper seal with the fixings and silicone, otherwise you can risk water going in other places other than the correct drainage channels. I have fixed the cill directly to the frame first on uPVC doors in the past but I was just guessing at that point regarding installation and went crazy with the silicone.
Final rendering? Lightweight 3.6n (8.5kg each) or medium density 3.6n (15-17kg each) and what make?
Interesting and something I wanted to learn for a while as I hate having to adjust/fit doors etc and as you say so many videos don't cover the little details, they assume you know it. We had a 5 meter bifold fitted which is out of my comfort zone but would definitely give a smaller one a try if time wasn't an issue. How did you secure the straps at the top with the steel lintel?
I'm sure there's probably a few things I missed out filming as well!
Yeah I can understand that 😁 this was my practice before my bigger set and no time limits as such 😆
Same method pretty much on the top straps, I just had to drill through the metal with a hss bit before I swapped for the sds drill.
Hey mate ! I’ve got 150mm cavity closers plastic one from Toolstation, will bifold doors just screw straight into the plastic seals I can’t see how it’s going to hold it ?
Hey, you shouldn't be fixing into them kind of cavity closers. I believe the only ones you can fix into are special preformed structural ones, they are the type that are tied into the walls as they are built. If you retrofit a cavity closer then you need to be fixing into either the inner or outer leaf. It's easier to use straps and fix to the inner leaf or do a direct fix to the outer leaf. Check with your bifold manufacturer how they recommend to fix in place. You might need to adjust this though especially if you're following regs and setting the frame 30mm back into the cavity.
Good video Aiden. One of my jobs for next year is to increase the width of an existing opening, new lintel/rsj etc (currently sliding doors). I was planning to pay a fitter to install the doors but after receiving eye-watering quotes (£4600, with fitting, or £2200 supply only) I've decided I'm better off doing it myself and taking my time. I have fitted UPVC windows before but never a bi-fold. I like the look of the Korniche system as plugged by SkillBuilder. It seems to rely on 'through' fitting rather than straps. What I'm not sure on, and haven't been able to definitively answer from the instructions is how you fix the head. Most forums vehemently insist the head of a frame should never be drilled, such is the risk of water ingress. Surely with bi-folds a mechanical head fixing is a good idea considering the weight? Any thoughts?

I always fix the head, the people that rely on foam are just being lazy. Shouldn't be a risk of water ingress as long as you set them back appropriately and seal properly. There's a load of weight on the top when you actually open the doors, be crazy not to fix it. If you've got a catnic style lintel then you should be able to drill the frame and steel with a hss bit then swap to a masonry bit for the brick/block above. Then pop in a masonry screw. If you have a big steel then get the techfast roofing screws.

Where did you get the window straps from if you don't mind me asking?
I got them from the window supplier as they are made by the manufacturer of the windows and doors. Lots of window and door manufacturers have their own straps, some twist in like these. Otherwise, there are universal ones available

What's the use of a manufacturer that won't let you download the manuals/installation documentation?
They'll give you an installation guide but previously you could download the technical manuals which actually had more information 🤷♂️ I'm not sure why they changed things
