One thing to remember is that in Sweden the ground is very rarely brown because in woodland much of the ground is coverd in moss. So it works abit better There than in a Forest like this One. Great vid btw!

the ground in forests was brown before the climate change in late 80s - Now its mossy due to increased humidity and pollution eg. more grass on greeny mosses even on hills (im talking about central sweden)

The 'black' pattern is actually not black, its very very dark blue/grey if you look closely. Why, because unless there's been a fire there is not much pitch black in the terrain. The cap is not military issue. His jacket is the M90 light (M90L), not the standard battle uniform. Its for summer in Sweden or peacekeeping in tropical areas. The standard M90 jacket has more pockets and is thicker. M90 standard is 50/50 cotton/polyester, the M90L is 35/65 cotton/polyester. If your material is different its probably a copy of the camo but not same a military issue. M90 is very durable and excellent in Swedish pine forests and should work well in Northern US and Canada. Greetings from Sweden

Aside from the velcro with with the flag in the front it looks very much like the cap we have in the military. I think they might have added the velcro themselves, considering that they switched the flag for a texas one in the same size for the hide and seek. Are you perhaps thinking of the solid green m/59 cap?

@@borktheswedishchef1190 Interesting.....an American gives a Favorable and Honest review of your camo, and they are ignorant. Brent and Bruce have both done many Honest reviews of camouflage, from all over the world. These Camo's are probably, mostly reproductions. So they won't be exactly as issued. That makes them ignorant? I've never heard them say they are experts in these camo's. That makes them ignorant? They have always been Fair and Professional, but that makes them ignorant?? Sounds to me that the only one who is Ignorant and Arrogant is You! Please stop embarrassing the Good People of Sweden, and go away.

@@Panabudo Yea I thought that was quite childish. The cap is not a military issue though. the military caps of the Swedish army are quite how do I put this, "Fucked". But yea doesn't really matter. Greetings from Sweden.

The pattern is really effective, i have several times almost tripped over other soldiers while i was running in the forest during exercises. In the terrain it was suppose to be used with and with dark OD combat vest and additional masking from pine trees and other native plants on the helmet and on the back of the combat vest i feel very confident while wearing it.
The M90L jacket he is wearing is a warm weather jacket and not intended for use in combat. The M90F (standard) jacket and pants are a couple of shades darker and thicker with more pockets on the jacket.

Yeah here in sweden we have alot of green. And a lot of green moss covering all forests. Also we have pine mixed with leaf trees.

A thing to keep in mind is also that the Swedish forests have a darker green to it, generally speaking. So it doesn't fit bright coloured forests as good

Though the pattern is correct, the uniform itself is incomplete and worn incorrectly. I hope I don't come across as the biggest jerk off here, I just thought you might like some input or even just some more info on the subject. That specific jacket is meant for jungle areas or warm climates and is very rarely used in field in Sweden. Mostly used by instructors or on base. Also I have no idea what kind of a hat that is, our hats have a very different design and no flag. Lastly the fold of the sleeves should be done in a special way so that the pattern faces outwards, and you don't get that ugly white fold. Unless you're in the Amphibious Corps, they have a tradition of folding it that way, I don't know why really.
I realize that the video was meant to showcase the actual pattern, and for that purpose it was great! Just thought I'd share some info on the uniform if anyone was curious. Good job!

Thanks for the input, others have also commented on the same subject. As you stated already though our aim here is to show case the pattern itself. BUT... Still appreciate you guys bringing that to the forefront because others who watch may want to know. Thanks again.

What can be said about the M90 is that just like British DPM there has been several different variations of it, even though it was always supposed to be the same. Different batches and different generations of uniforms differ greatly in the general colours used, from uniforms that go mostly in muted earth tones to ones that have light and bright, almost neon greens. This is not intenational or done on purpose, regardless of what some rumours say. The best colour schemes for Northern Europea terrain was on the M90 uniforms made in the very early 1990's or even late 1980's. Some newer incarnations have very light and bright green on them and would probably be great in tropical jungle and in decidous forrest during the most green summer season, but not that good elsewhere.Overall the M90 has a very similar colour and overall "scheme" to danish M84 and to Cadpat, even though the patterns are very different with M90 having big splinters and angles, M84 basically being a WW2 German dot pattern with green and black and cadpat a pixelated modern pattern. They all work very well in similar environments.

That is actually M90 Light uniform, meant for Jungle and hotter climate or Swedish summer :) The material is called Varpasin and is quite good, made is Sri-lanka. That field shirt is rarely issued to anyone in Sweden, most common is M90 jacket and that is actually cousin with American M65 jacket but with napoleon pockets instead and no hood. Reason for that is that we took the design from Norway, and at the time, Norway used specially designed M65 jackets in their camo.
M90 is not bad camo at all but it kinds defeats itself with thet khaki color and dark blue. Better option would be to match Finnish M05 colors.

Jpå I had two standard m90 jackets and one m90 light jacket issued in basic, but then again my cousin wore a motor overall for two weeks before being issued anything with camouflage on it so I guess it just depends on where you go for training.
shame they didnt review the standard jacket since that one has all the pockets and functions, m90 light is just a office shirt basically.

I bought the M90 from the Finnish surplus site a while back. It was a bit pricey to get it here, but I liked how it looked, and thought it would do well in the coastal range areas of California. I used the pants deer hunting last month in the Sierra Nevada (D zone -5), and they have good water resistance (at least when newish). I compare it to a canvas like a brand new pair of dickies has. Time will tell how long the stiffness and water resistance lasts. It is definitely not as tan/brown as the M81 woodland, but it didn't seem to hurt the performance all that much in the video. Thanks for the great video! For hunting last month, I wore the British MTP, then the M90 pants on cooler rainy days. I have a versatile set of affordable camo for hunting now thanks to you all your videos and work

    • @marcmoren5193
      @marcmoren5193 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hey! To maintain the fabric water resistant properties of the fabric you must washed them(as usual with regular detergent) but then tumble on really high heat 140 degrees Celsius!
It closes the fibers of the fabric that makes it both waterproof and gives your a CBRN protection against, for example, gas and fire / napalm.
No other so-called waterproofing needed. The pants or your uniform, will not lose their properties and do not break as long as you live if you take care of them.
      Good luck deer hunting. :-)

Many comments concern the folding of the sleeves, not rolling of the sleeves. I don't know exactly how Europeans fold their sleeves, but, it may be like how the US Army folded sleeves when the BDU uniforms were worn. First, the cuffs of the sleeves were turned inside out then slid to the armpit area. The entire sleeve is inside out. Second, roll the lower portion of the sleeve to just above the elbow joint. Third, turn the wrist cuff back so the outside of the sleeve is on the outside again. When finished only the outside of the sleeve will be showing. Never saw Marines do it this way. Only the Army did. US Army regulations said it was to enable you to quickly pull the sleeves down for either concealment, or, to cover exposed skin in case of chemical attack. Hope there is somebody from Sweden, or anywhere in Europe, to comment to see if this technique is similar.

It was when he moved my eye catched him. It must have been because of the dark and light colors on the pattern. It was sunny so the dark colors just looked like shadows of the leaves.

Nato is even worse, thousands of European and American soldiers are killed because of Nato. I have been to the funeral ceremony of German bundeswehr soldiers who were killed in the middle east couple of years ago, more than a hundred caskets. What do we gain with Nato? nothing. Only the USA government does, in advancing their masters' agenda, Israel of course. We are mere tools to be used and sacrificed by them, to fight and die for their personal wars, and what is argueably worst of all, they promote this bullshit agenda of European separation between Nato countries and Russia, stirring up animosity and promoting conflict between Europeans, just like they did in ww2, and have always done. Because that's their whole business model and mode of operation, creating conflicts and animosity between Europeans and promoting conflicts on both sides, then reaping the benefits and profits from our deaths and suffering. All while enslaving us with their banking interest and national debt crap. They created bolshevism, they are the reason the millions of europeans were killed in ww2, and are being killed right now
the jews have focused their whole culture and history ever since they had first contact with Europeans and infiltrated Europe, in trying to destroy us, they have been attacking us ever since, and disguising themselves as ''philanthropists'' and ''humanitarians'', all while destroying the european identity and national sentiment with their media

Most "woodland" camo is effective with different "shapes" or "patterns" of greens, and depending on area different shades of brown..
I like the effectiveness of the camo color combination of medium slightly dark green, OD green, a slightly olive green, with Coyote brown and (M81) darker redish brown.
There was a jacket i got long time ago second hand one time with those kind of colors, worked well for many seasons, it worn out, faded some. Was an effective "bdu type" jacket. Worn it with brown pants.
Some areas brighter greens an lighter brown work better then others.
M90 & M81 have been and are still effective in select environments..
(All brown deer are also effective in environments.. )
This was a good video, i like these videos an often times catch myself re-watchin a video multiple times.
Wish some of these camo patterns mr Brent come across were more widely available, as they would be good for hunting..
Most hunting patterns i see arent old military surplus like say the 80s an 90s used to be. You used to find old OD green Vietnam camo or M81 type camo sorta cheap and i dont see that as the case today. And the county im in dont have a surplus store. In the 70s-90s i used to see almost a surplus store or 3 within an hours driving distance..times have sure changed.

The M90 looks good. But dang that woodland camo...... Remind me again why we ever got rid of it? Also nice to see a full color one in the field. In the Army we saved our new BDU’s for garrison. And promptly ignored the labels and starched the hell out of them. Just before they fell apart and were faded to hell and gone they were promoted to field uniforms. So everybody in the field was wearing what by then we called snow camo.....

If you are interested in M90 wintercamo, there is actually a brand new winter uniform being tested at the swedish army ranger battlion. The winter camo has been pullover overalls since like the dawn of Sweden. For a few weeks however, individuals have been spotted with the new uniform at the battalion. So I've been reading some of the comments and I want to correct a few things.
Some are saying that is not a standard issue cap. To me it looks like a standard M90 cap with velcro for flag placement sewed on. We don't have that, but otherwise the cap looks right. Sometimes though you will see COs and NCOs using the old m/59 cap which is solid green and has flaps on the outside that can be folded down to protect the ears from wind. The M90 cap has those flaps on the inside.
Some are saying that the M90 Light jacket, which this is, is only issued to officers and troops doing peace keeping operations in warmer climates. That used to be the case, however as a member of the Homeguard (we always get all the new equipment last), I can confirm that everyone should have it now.
Some are saying that the M90 Light jacket is not used in the field. The climate in Sweden is warming up and more soldiers are starting to use it in the field, at least in southern Sweden. Though there's a lot of northern Sweden out there and I don't know about them.
Lastly, you have indeed folded up the arms wrong in the beginning of the video. The inside should not be shown. The trick to it is to make _one_ long fold where to pull the edge of the arm as far up as you can. Then you grab the bottom where the fabric was folded and fold it up again 2/3 of the way. You then pull the edge of the arm (which is still up by the shoulder) down over the new fold. This should expose the outside of the arm over the folded up fabric.
Thank you for the great video!

99% of the time it is the shadows that give away a position. Make sure that light hits your surfaces from the enemies viewpoint. Example, leaning away from enemy.

I just love how people are bitching about that the uniform is "incorrect and worn wrong and not standard uniform" etc.. 1 he's not a official swe soldier
2- that uniform can be bought by anyone from paintballers to soft air gun players and even hunters tend to use it while hunting. there are a lot of options for the so called "hobby" users to choose between so that the official standard uniform get's left alone and only used by the military, the purpose was to show how effective the camo is nothing more nothing less(read the title and info).

I see alot of incorrect information in the comments.
First of all the M90 Light was originally called M90 Lätt(light) FN(UN). As the name UN tells us it was made for personel in deployment to hotter areas, in this case, former Yugoslavia.
After our deployment there it started to be issued to officers and since around 2009-2010 they started issuing it to all soldiers, including basic training and home guard.
Regarding that "you are not allowed to use it in combat" or "it's for staff personel", it's not true. However it is made of a less durable material so it breaks more easily. The M90 Light pants are going away because of this reason since they were the ones getting destroyed from usage during field drills and combat drills.
Basically it is in the same situation as the shell garments. Local rules apply. Most, however are allowed to use these as they please.

As TH-cam's greatest authority on the effectiveness of modern camouflage patterns - a noble and important subject - I'd be interested in what you think on mono-colour uniforms. The Israelis and the Austrians seem to have done fine with them. Some of the recent Russian patterns also look almost unicolour. Are multi-colour uniforms really that much of an advantage? Or is it mostly fashion?

    • @TheSwedeMcCoy
      @TheSwedeMcCoy ปีที่แล้ว

Mono colour works better than most camouflage pattern uniforms during movement. The human eye have a tendensy to spot movement ever so small.

This however is NOT an official swedish army m90 uniform, this is from a large batch that reached the civilian market a few years ago and has been sold worldwide ever since. Its kind of a mystery where it came from. My guess is that it's a batch that was in fact rejected by the swedish army. The colors are too dark compared to a genuine item, they're not marked with the "Three crowns" label, and also think that the sizing is different from the real stuff. That said, I actually have one of these jackets, and its a very well made jacket of high quality, but not genuine military issue.

I find it difficult to determine the effectiveness of a pattern by just looking at it. This pattern I would had sworn had far too defined shapes and colors to work well. When you actually get out in the woods though, it actually works rather well. That hat gave him away a few times though, ha. Very defined shape.
I kind of like that A2 set-up you have there. Very classic combat AR set-up with the heavier barrel.

One small, but very nice, feature that Bruce forgot to mention (or perhaps it was missing on his pants) is the little piece of strong fabric with a button on it on the inside of the pants, which create a little loop. It is used to "hook onto" your shoelaces, which prevents your pants from accidentally getting pushed up over your boots when walking in deep snow, which of course is very common in Sweden.
