I watched that video 6 years ago, when I start playing Ukulele and I was AMAZED by his playing, never thought this can be possible for me to be that « good » . And 6 years later I can do 80% of what he shows. Even if you thought that is impossible, trust me , it is.
I've been coming back to this video since I first heard of Jake in February this year. When I first watched your lessons I thought "WOW" that's amazing I could never do any of that. over the months more of it started to look possible, well finally I'm now able to do some of the techniques that you kindly shared here many thanks for the lessons and all you do for people peace and the UKULELE
+jangchubTashi Thanks for the perspective. I came across this video about a month ago after getting my uke, and Jake just blew me away. Well, I've taken my third lesson with an instructor and found myself coming back here to practice in-between. While most, especially the ten finger stroke, is still beyond where I'm at, I can see myself getting it one day!
+jangchubTashi dont forget to be realistic - you'll have to do a bit of work whichever method you follow for learning to play the Ukelele I've been studying teaching yourself uke and discovered a fantastic resource at Arthurs Uke Blog (google it if you are interested)
Most of my life I have played Flamenco guitar. This my second day with a Ukulele. It's 5 in the morning and I can't wait to get started. Your teaching is cool & clear, so thanks. I am surprised to see that most of the right hand techniques are the same as my Spanish. I did all right yesterday, I hope for the same today. .. You are inspiring ... Big THANKS !!
i like how the description says "some technique". goodness, this video is gold. i'm gonna spend the next few months killing my fingers, wrist and arm in the name of music.
I play a double bass and now bought my first ukelele. What a difference and what a great small instrument! And this guy is an amazing musician. His explanation is very clear and easy to follow. I'm hoping to learn a lot from him.
You are so good I have just came across you. You are a master I am only a beginner at 79 I wish I had discovered the ukulele a long time ago but I must say the ukulele is fast becoming a instrument of choice thank you ted
I just bought a ukulele today. Never played one before and this just looks like some god level skills. I WILL REACH THIS LEVEL no matter how long it takes
Last month I was completely bewildered at how astronomical difficult and amazing this shit was. I just managed to do the entirety of this video magically only fucked up on the picking a little. It's amazing to see what doing work can get you
Nice, I figure I'm on a 3 month schedule of about 30 mins a day. 1W in right now and just starting to hear the 10 finger roll. You're going to have to post a video. At 2 months later you should be able to nail this without a thought. I'm guessing you play other instruments, probably guitar or banjo no?
I learned so much variations of strumming in this ONE video than in the last 11 months. Albeit, I have only been playing on and off. Jake is a gr8 teacher.
Keeping this video as an encyclopedia for reference. I ain't got it yet. Will get it some day. Many thanks for a fantastic tutorial. You seem to make it so easy !
This was the best tutorial of all time. I dont even know what to say. I mean to think I can play and have perfectly memorized yesterday in that amazing arrangement in less than an hour is totally mind blowing to me.
I've played guitar for 5 years, but never thought that the Ukulele was as extensive to learn. You inspired me to borrow a friend's uke, and now I'm hooked. Just bought my own. Thanks!
Real obvious that you are brought up with good manners and genuine Aloha spirit. Thank you so much for sharing this precious lessons.. I would need to pay top dollar for these lessons. I like to pray you have a long wonderful life.
Hi fingers, hi wrist, hi thumb. I never knew you ! Hi strings, hi sides of strings and sides of fingers. Crazy what the hands might be able to learn to do. I never knew the hands could be so clever. See you in your upcoming concert in our area in October Jake.
I take a lot of comfort knowing that Jake can always teach if he has trouble becoming a performer. (A great master can be masterful in more than one area - Thanks so much, Jake!)
Thank you sir !! I've been playing guitar since 7-8 years and the only thing I always wanted to learn were these techniques.. Thank you so much for sharing these valuable techniques with so much pleasure.. Being an Indian.. Whenever we learn something from somebody, we call that person our " GURU " ( Teacher ).... And we believe that a teacher deserves the same place and respect as God does.. You are my Guru.. Thank you so much.. I wish I cud see you someday.. 😊✌
This VDO is from DVD " Play Loud Ukulele " by Jake Shimabukuro I believe that we can play the technics like Jake but we have to start from very slow until you have more skill you can increse the speed faster and faster . Good Luck Everyone!
What wonderful generosity of spirit... What I love most about this is that he absolutely gives us everything we require in minutest detail. All we need to add is the love he has for the instrument and Malcolm Gladwell's 10,000 hours. Truly! Any of us could be Jake, or at least be true virtuosos, if we simply (!) put in the time and practice. Thank you, Jake!
Yesterday... I decided learn this way to play... Now it seems that my yesterday is getting to be far away... Why I had to start to learn when I am old?? I'll keep practicing this until all my dinners get co-o-old Yesterday, we really loved the way you play And we love it even more today Thank you Jake is all we can say 🌷
Very thankful for this. So kind of him. His yesterday is beautiful. Even today! I'll keep coming back to this daily for as many years as it takes to play it 😊 Thanks Jake !
Unf-g good! Thank you very much for sharing, Man! Thank you for letting us not only to watch you playing, but the great pleasure to follow your leads and learning how to play! Good music heals! Your technique and repertoire is priceless! Your teaching skills are blessed by your kind heart!
Awesome Jake. I feel like I just got a "private" lesson from one of the best uke players on the planet. I'll be coming back to this video often. Thanks!
Jake: "So this is how you do it" Me: "okay" *does it very slowly* Jake: "This is what it looks like fast" Me: fuuuuuuu I'm thankful that he shares his secret to the world, but I'm sorry Jake, you're too damn good for me. lol
Nice to see a master like you teaching on here cos lets face it not many would, especially as you are the best in the world"well you you are in my book".good man.i recently started to play the uke and as a guitarist its different but the strum patterns make it and you have great technique......its like flamenco, rock, classic all mixed.i love it and you are a genious and you seem cool aswell which is allways good.thanks for trying to teach your fans.
I'm going to learn this song come heck or high water!!! I'm 74 so I need to push it! That first bar cord is killing my short weak fingers so maybe I can substitute it in a way to just get past that! I can't give up the whole song because of a problem here and there. Thank you for the step by step lesson! You play incredibly!
Pleasantly surprised looking at the first few strumming techniques so far since that's similar to how I play guitar (I never use a pick). Definitely getting an ukulele tomorrow now.
He is so modest and friendly ...He was just born to play the ukulele ... he has it down so instinctively - GIFTED - ... I still remember the first time I saw the video of him playing "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" in Central Park ... must have been five years ago ... watched it so many times since ... the King of the Uke ... so nice to be able to get instructed by him ! Would love to hear him play Simon and Garfunkle's "If I could / El Condor Pasa" it is a song made for him

Ombeing , thank you. I was getting so hopeless.
I don't I will ever get to 80% but that's okay - I can aspire. Thank you for reminding me that putting in the time and effort does pay off.
That is nice to hear. So i have 5 more years to go;)))
trust you, it is indeed impossible? :D
I didn't think it's impossible for you to do 80% of what he's doing, but if you're convinced otherwise, I'll take your word for it.
As an ancient guitar picker i thought i knew a few tricks.... but this was an eye-opener...... i have just bought a ukulele. Thank you.
