Just ran across this channel. Love the idea of bit-less riding. I used to own and ride my own horses and rode my first horse in a hackamore with a leather chin strap. You are so kind to your horse when you pet, not slap. We American riders seem to think we need to slap the horse in praise due to being told they have "thick" skin. If they can feel a fly, they would prefer a gentle petting. Impressive to see how much your horse loves you with those horsey kisses. Thank you for your videos.

Wish I knew about these bridles when I had my horses, I'm from USA and amazed with the things you do with your horses, I really envy you that you have such a wonderful Mom and you both enjoy what you do together! You are so lucky to be so close. Hope you keep making videos like this and many more especially in English. Really amazing to see the love and patience you have with your horses and Mom too!!

I loved the Nalanta bridle! It literally changed my horse 😍 Thank you for explaining better and more clearly its functions as sidepull and also hackmore! I've always used it as sidepull, but I'll try a different setting, too 😁

This was really informative in a simple and clear way.
I cannot understand why some people like to exert extreme pressure on their horses heads, but I expect it's because they are lazy and just want an expedient way to exert pain in order to achieve compliance.
My goal is to work every day to use less and less tack to improve close communication and partnering with my mare.

I think they looked best with the first bridle...lighter, self carriage, most balanced. I love your hair Eva, going to dye mine red soon. Can't tell, but the horse in the b&w photo by my name, was named Red, and his color was called 'sorrel", pretty much the same color as your hair. I am riding him (trying to anyway, I was only about 8 and he was so patient with my trials) in a homemade "pencil bosal", which is what one used after initial hacamore training, under and along with the curb bit (traditionally a spade bit), for about two years while transitioning to just the curb bit. This was the traditional Spanish based Californio style/method. Western Pleasure horses in California, and Arabian Western Pleasure horses, used to move like dressage horses in Western tack, and on a light rein...not the peanut roller nose to the ground look that took over in the 1980's. Your mom is a beautiful rider...so light. Thanks for all your videos

I was also wondering about your training and riding background and thought that would be a great video as well. Tell us about who you worked with and learned from both with liberty, groundwork and your classical dressage riding and how you learned riding because you are a very good rider and have really good balance, position and do use an application of your aids. There are so many people that take lessons when they’re younger and then continue riding on their own and develop poor habits and position issues As well as not being able to use their body and their age effectively when they are riding and it shows through the horse. And with you you can tell you have had some really good training with everything.

I always liked the hackamore a lot, but the horse i took care of the past couple years hated it. So we went with a simple snaffle bit and he felt the most comfortable with this one. On lazy days we used the halter or the rope halter 😄

Exactly!!! There is just no need to anti bit, anti bitless, etc etc. Every horse needs something else to thrive on!

Thanks for the video. :-) You have great happy horses. I have had the same experience as you with bitless bridles and rank them the same as you. In the US, the cross-link is called the Dr Cook bitless bridle (I think he may have started the system?) and I agree, it does not release. I have not tried the Nalanta exactly, but the Orbitless Bridle, which has a similar design, but I find the wheel more stable. I have always been amazed at how a comfortable horse is more likely to respond and be less reactive than an uncomfortable one. But like you said, every horse/situation is different and you have to do it case by case. I love how Pasha is so relaxed. Love your Mom too. :-)

The (Anatomic Shaped Bitless Side and Pull English Leather Bridle “Lewes”) is another amazing option for a Bitless Bridle. It has a thick noseband and poleband, and has a leather strip to keep the noseband from going to low on the face.
It's a nice looking Bridle that you won't feel out of place in the show ring.

You and your mom make such a great team! I currently ride my mare in a cross under type bitless bridle with a neck strap (made myself by braiding yachting rope, very soft). The bridle is okay, but very little release, as you said. My mare does tend to push through the pressure sometimes, she's a half draft with a big neck. :-) I like the Nalanta bridle with the wider noseband and hackamore setting for a bit more control out on the trail. I really like the mostly rope neck strap as well. Thanks for showing us!!
Sounds good! Good choices! So yours also does not fully release? I was like “hmmm no this aint fair to the horse”, but there are also a lot of people that love the cross link. Nalanta and hackemore will always be it for me! Simple clear system and I think they both look good!

God Bless you. I hope one day all bits will be outlawed! You are so lucky and blessed to have your mom. My mom would come out and watch me rope at events. But I lost her the day after Christmas in 1997. Then the Morgan I had for 23 years out of his 30-year life in 2010. And then my Palomino a month later. I think he grieved himself to death over his buddy Trace. The vet said it was sand colic and Trace passed from old age. First time in my life I am horseless. I miss my boys and my mom. Enjoy each and everyday cause tomorrow is not promised. Tell the ones you love that you love them every day. hugs debs from Texas

I am currently experimenting with bitless riding. So far i used side pull and crossed but I didnt really like it so I am thinking about buying the nalanta bridle

I have a cross link one and I definitely prefer it for going out, in the school I think it’s a bit annoying that it doesn’t always slide back so you end up having different length reins, or at least that’s the problem I have with this bridal
I think for the cross tie bridle it also depends on the model that you buy because I have a nurtural bridle and my leather straps where the reins connect is a lot thicker and it releases pressure right away

It is a barebackpad! We didn’t make anything ourselves and it is just purchased. If you google it I’m sure you will find plenty of results ❤️

Eva, thanks for a very informative and educational video! I am wondering, on the hackamore (what we would call a "mechanical hackamore" in the U.S., as opposed to the traditional "bosal" hackamore, braided rawhide noseband), does the metal part apply any compression pressure on the horse's face, or does it just remain 'loose' and the leather parts do all of the work? You and your mom are a good team! Nice to see Que Habil a bit, but I also kept searching for Flippy, saw him in the background at the very end! (love that little guy!)
On the metal does not specifically press against any part of the head! At least not enough the be worth mentioning! :D Thank you! 💘
I have an off track with bit issues so I have been working him in a sidepull and I also have the similar hackamore, I do not like the cross link but I am very interested in the first bridle but haven't found any for sale. my current intention was to make one from parts i have... where did yours come from??? BIG QUESTION which do you feel is best for putting more refinement into the communication, for lateral work and such

Was thinking the cross link looked more severe than a loose ring snaffle bit (in soft hands), then your mom and you made similar comments. Why do you prefer bitless? Have watched you and Jesse for years and always wondered the reasons behind it. Also....love the cameos of Q! Can't wait to see a video of you and him. I enjoy watching you and your mom, reminds me of when my daughter and I rode everyday together :)

Well I am 1.83 so I never pulled towards Islandic Horses, I think they are cute but I never really took the time to learn more about them!

I'm been debating buying a Nalanta and just paying the shipping to the US :(. I think my Andalusian is too sensitive for the shanks on a hackamore. I've never ridden him bitless but he chomps on his bit quite a lot and I'd love to see if a bites helps him relax for and step up into the bridle. I'm not super educated on a lot of bitless options but I rode in the cross linked bridle the first time I rode bitless and had the same thoughts as you. also, it seemed to confuse the horse I was riding because the pressure was coming from the opposite side.
