    Dan is correct about most hunters being keyed in to clear cuts, OnX has the year and type of cut.But, his tip about edges is huge. Think swamp bedding...👍

    Very good vid, I'll only add as a MN timber hauler the reason the loggers scatter the tree tops or waste wood back on the land (public land) is to use it like compost. It adds considerable amounts of nutrients back to the soil.

    “Clear cuts are the corn fields of the north woods.” More good info to think about when scouting 👍🏻👍🏻

    I've been watching your swamp strategy. I've been hunting big woods in the Adirondacks for 40 years. Did pretty good. You have my total attention on big woods. I still haven't taken a monster. Need a new look. Getting it from you. thanks.

    Thanks Dan and all of the Beast crew. Already took a lot from the first 2 videos of the Big Woods series. This is what I have been looking for! The 2021 season will be my 4th season hunting. Ive been around hunting all of my life but it never took hold until as of recent. Im in central MA and only hunt big track of public land (some odd thousands of acres). My Father knows these woods intimately but like you said, the mystique of the big woods and going at it solo. The challenge, it has me hooked. Ive been lucky enough to have taken a good 2 1/2 year old 8 point from there - my only deer, my first bow kill and first buck. Been putting a lot of work in to learn the land, and again this is already helping. I purchased the Swamp and Hill Country dvd’s recently. Thanks again, guys like yourself, THP crew, John Eberhart, are pushing me to grow as a hunter! Im grateful to have found this home.

    Really loving this Big Woods series Mr. Infalt. I know it's tough to put up so much great info that you've spent a lifetime cultivating, on TH-cam "for free". But I think you're making the right decision. I've purchased several of your stands over the years along with DVD's. I still have the stands and use them every year. The DVD's are lost to the ages.

    Great info. Clear-cuts and select-cuts are my favorite places to hunt. I tend to stay just outside of them and observe where I think I need to move to. When they completely grow over it becomes more difficult to observe so yes I agree whole hearted winter is the best time to go in there for Intel.
    I had done it in season and screed it up for weeks and by the time it calmed the rut had already kicked in and the bucks that were there before were gone to sleeping where their doe was sleeping and it wasn't in that clear cut. Was chasing a particular buck and he was on to me quickly. Never seen him in daylight again after I went in there.

    Had one bedding on sc public land no further than 150 yards in some places. Issue was it was on a road corner. There was no way to park and hunt this deer unless you park way back and walk in. Then the other problem was the squirling wind.

    I have 6 big clear cuts within 20 min of the house. Unfortunately every one is within a 15min walk from the road, so they get pounded hard. They do hold giants the first couple days of the season. But I find after the first week they've gotten out of dodge because of the pressure

    If there are hills close to a select/clear cut do mature bucks seem to prefer bedding on the top 1/3 vs the edge of the cut? Thanks

    • @thehuntingbeast
      @thehuntingbeast  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would scout both... If the hills are open, and the cut thick, they will be at the cut... But, if both offered thick cover upwind, the leeward hill would win...

      @@thehuntingbeast That’s too bad. Thank you for the quick reply! I really appreciate your videos! I started hunting late in life at 37 and killed my first deer (buck) at 20yrds with a 30-30 in my second season by applying techniques learned from your videos. Each year since, I’ve hunted via archery and always mobile. Last season was my 4th season and like the first year I didn’t filled the freezer. But, not filling the freezer wasn’t due to ignorance like my first year, I was very picky and passed on a lot. Thank you for all you do!

    If you're calling that buck a 3 year old that says alot about your knowledge. Also if you're as smart as you project yourself, you'd have set a camera and got a picture of the other guy harassing you.hunter was tagging your trail etc, you'd have a picture of him
