Glad to hear it was a minor issue and nothing related to the steering rack. I'm getting mine lowered next month on the same springs so I'll be making sure my garage fit them properly!
That’s a relief to find out what the problem was.I didn’t expect anything eye watering with it being a trusty MX.Great roads again you’re driving on.I may have to move!ATB👍
The roads around the west of scotland are terrific. I've developed my own little MLM100 which is mainly coastal and just perfect for the MX5. Some days you barely see another car. Should have relocated sooner 👍
in the video caption, it states lowering caused the issue but in the video, you said the clonking noise is due to the coilover joints have moved? and not sure what caused it? im more looking at if you changed the coilover set and if it changed the ride height by how much that have caused it...
That's right, the new springs had moved and weren't seated correctly. They've since been reseated and no more issues. Think I just got unlucky tbh. Guess the moral of the story is take care when positioing the new springs, being only a tiny bit out has consequences. Good news for others is if you do have the same issue, the fix is fairly easy and no damage caused, phew!!
@@midlifemotors5050 right, now thats much clearer cause in the video I didnt hear you mentioning an aftermarket coilover was installed so I thought it was caused by driving, or defect, or you have done something to the stock drivetrain. i think its best to leave such modification to the mechanics as not only it may clonk like you experienced but it may damage the suspension, causing the body to rest on the wheels.
@@midlifemotors5050 so if installed well the lowered springs work well with stock bilstein? Mechanics are warning me not to do this change. I am confused now. Helpppp
Pleased you got it sorted with no parts used, result :-) OOO that cold start noise, sounds awful. I remember starting my 17 plate MX-5 the morning after I purchased it and heard the very first ND cold start, I thought I had been sold a lemon,,,,, thankfully they all sound like that so I guess I own a good one :-)
Cheers, it was a good result, no doubt 👍My car feels/sounds terrible when you first start it up. Noisy, rattly, won't go into gear, terrible. Fortunately once it's up to temperature its fine, wierd but even my mates ND2 is much the same.
17 plate owner here too and I sometimes get that startup anxiety where I have to zig zag and go through the revs for five minutes to put out that imaginary engine warning light 😂 should have convinced myself after 4 years that it's all normal noises and sounds!
@@midlifemotors5050 i need your help. I am thinking to install lower progressive springs. Eibach brand. They say those will lower my 2.0 ND2 RF 30mm. I am only afraind because some mechanic told me that the stock bilstein sospensions will not work well with this modification. Do you have some good tips for me? Please
@@lucianolucidi8624 The bilsteins will be fine. That's exactly the setup I went for and it has transformed the car. Just remember to get the geometry checked after a couple of hundred miles, once the car has settled. A good fast road setup, I went Flyin Miata, will bring the best out of it 👍
@@midlifemotors5050 thanks for your help. I really dont understand why all the mechanics i met suggest me not to change only the springs but all the coilovers. They say that lower springs need shorter coilovers to work well.
A fun drive on the country roads of Scotland in a beautiful, little, red car. Your Miata has the bigger wheels and Recaro seats. Is it the high performance package?
Think you could be 100% correct 👍 Just strange that it took a few months to show up and happened right after the car had been in for its MOT & service rather than after the springs were fitted. Maybe I was just unlucky. Main thing is all good now, no reoccurence, no damage done, car & driver happy 😊
Disagree, I lowered mine with Eibach Pro springs along with a full laser alignment and the car was completely transformed. It felt soft and a little wallowy stock, but with the Eibachs it feels so much more composed and eager to turn. Combined with BBR uplifting it to 192bhp its a huge smiles all the way.
@@leonbutler1116 sounds nice. We have the flying miata set up on ours and it's tremendous. Was that the bbr 190 kit you've got? Think that could be next on our to do list.
@@midlifemotors5050 Yep, I went for the BBR190 as mine is an ND1. I went with the uprated 4-1 manifold, without a cat (leaving a sports cat in the midpipe) and already had their Supersport backbox. On their dyno it did 192bhp which I was very please with, up from 158bhp. Makes a huge difference - the acceleration suits the car (0-60 is around 6s) and the engine revs a lot more willingly. The noise is fantastic too! The car never ceases to put a huge grin on my face.
Phew, bank balance still intact!!

I've had an Evoque, so know all about steering rack dramas!! Didn't want to go through all that again 😢
Excellent - the best fixes are the cheap and easy fixes! Glad you're back on the road.
Thanks fella 👍 We are happy in the Mid Life Motors house again.

Many thanks 👍 hoping to do an update video tomorrow, weather forecast is ok 🤞

must be the wheels hitting the wheel wells because its lowered way too much i think?
Only lowered 25mm so fortunately wheels still well clear of the arches 👍 One of the springs was not seated correctly. Fixed now, phew!!

We are lucky with the roads here, no doubt. It’s a UK Launch Edition car, so some nice extras inside and out.
Misleading title, seems bad fitment caused your problem, not lowering.

Yes it's funny how often things start happening just after a service.😄
Sounds like the 1.5 the true nd model
The suspension is excellent as it comes from the factory. I don't really see the need to fiddle with it.
You're right, no doubt. But it's fun to tinker and it does look better 😉

Try Ohlins. I fitted them to an NC and the difference was amazing.. Just need them on my ND now :0)
