    The way the education system is declining and specialising in bullying and indoctrination, a compatible homeschool study is a temptation. Home is better when it in regards to literacy and numeracy which mainstream school has teachers that don't have time for them. Parents can no longer depend on institutions.

    I wish there were brick and mortar curriculum bookstores. I would much rather have something physically in my hands that I can look through. Clicking on a miniscule number of sample pages or reading a brief, vague summary online is not enough for me. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong websites or maybe those real stores do exist but I haven't found them.
    I should mention that this is our first year and boy howdy is it overwhelming to wade through all of the ins and outs! I've been sporadically binging homeschooling videos and today your channel is the one I'm sifting through :-)

      I totally agree! It’s so hard to tell from the few sample pages! Some areas have homeschool consignment stores where you can do that! A lot of moms go to a homeschool convention/conference in the spring where they usually have big curriculum fairs open as part of it to be able to browse. It can be super helpful if you’re able to go to one of those next year - not just for curriculum but for the wisdom and inspiration from all the speakers! We put together a curriculum fair of our own this year at our church and we just had a bunch of moms bring in what they use and then everyone got to browse all the tables and flip through books. So something like that’s an option too, or just asking friends if you know anyone who homeschools if you can look through their resources. Best wishes!!

    Maybe other reasons why people homeschool. I have three neurodivergent kids and I want to be more hands on with them and make sure they are getting the tools they need to succeed. I’m planning to start next year if this year continues to not go well.

      Thank you all for posting about homeschool and your thoughts/where you are in the process. My son turned 4 in December and is in Pre-K 3. He's is on the autism spectrum. We're considering homeschooling him for at least PreK 4 because the school won't provide the therapies that he needs, and he's already leaving school an hour or 2 early for me to take him to speech.

    Thank you for your video! May I please ask you and I hope is not to much for you but a video sharing what do you specifically teach a 5th, 3rd and 1st graders? I am not talking about state standers. I will like about "You" specific 🙂 will be very helpful to know what other parents do. I appreciated! ☺💌☺ But if is to much I will understand. I see that the state ask for a lot of things but I was wondering if we have to do all those things or we just do what we parents think it is ok. Sometimes I think if everything what they said our kids should learn it is very important. I hope make sense what I said.
    Have a blessed day! and thank you again!

    • @TheEclecticHomeschooler
      @TheEclecticHomeschooler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the state requires certain subject, you want to make sure you're covering them all in some way. But that doesn't mean you have to have a full curriculum for each one, especially for the youngest children. Ofter, just checking out a few books from the library about a topic and reading and discussing them is enough. You might want to find curriculum that you rotate through in coming years to cover topics more thoroughly, but you don't have to go super in depth every year on every subject they say is required. Some things, like art appreciation, for example, could be covered by a field trip to an art museum (in person or online) and discussing what you like about certain pieces of art. That might lead to looking up that artist more and trying to recreate a copy yourself - and that would be enough. Hope this helps!

    Very encouraging video, thank you!
    There is one question that I can’t seem to find the answer to - how do I convert learning experiences into a measurable assignment/lesson that is needed for record keeping and assessment of progress? Ive heard statements like “homeschool is a lifestyle; there’s learning everywhere. When you are cooking, exploring nature etc”.
    Do I plan these experiences in line with a curriculum?
    Of course I plan on choosing a curriculum when the time comes, but what about spontaneous outings (museum, zoo) that are not in a curriculum? Do I need to create a lesson around that activity? Say I want to take my kids to see a waterfall at a national park - how would I turn that experience into measurable knowledge? I hope my question makes sense. Thank you.

    • @michellerodriguez1628
      @michellerodriguez1628 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, this is a great question. I wonder if you could incorporate a writing assignment where the kids write (or draw if kinder/preschool age) about their experience. Or respond with art. A research report on waterfalls, etc. for older students.

    Hi so I'm currently homeschooling my Kindergartener and I'm still feeling lost and overwhelmed yes I am afraid of the fact that I was never trained to teach. I'm also not the brightest person ( I'm not afraid to admit this) so I really don't know if I'm doing this homeschooling thing right. We are now in the month of January and I've hardly done work . I've started easypeasy just to help give me some direction now I feel awful as if he should be way ahead starting lesson 1 in January. Can you please give me some advice and encouragement I really don't want to send my child to school especially on a school bus.

      It may be different state to state so check out your state on the HSLDA website. Ours requires we teach 180 days. I keep a one page calendar that has each month of the year on it and mark the days that we do school and total them up on the bottom of the page, then a copy of the calendar goes into each of my kids’ records at the end of the year. Some just keep a list of how many days per month they do.

    My son is being bullied in school/bus. Principal didn't do jack shit. Im seriously considering homeschooling. I just found out another student threatened to hurt my boy (cull) him for no reason. Scary considering all the gun violence in schools.
    I dont know what we are doing., whats involved. Just researching.
    Can i can do it, kids are 10, 2 & 1. If i dont cook everything we dont eat it. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Is my plate too full now?

    • @TheEclecticHomeschooler
      @TheEclecticHomeschooler  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear that! How scary! I don’t know your situation, so I couldn’t say if you have too much on your plate. I can say that the sacrifice to homeschool is worth it! The time we get with our kids is precious. I definitely encourage you to check out hslda.org. They have info about each state’s homeschool laws and many articles to help get started. Often, it would require talking to your school district and submitting paperwork to formally withdraw your child from school, and paperwork to indicate you are going to provide home based education. Or you could choose to do a parent partnership program, where they are still part of the school system, yet able to do classes online or lessons at home. There are many options available! I would suggest looking for a community homeschool group on Facebook or somewhere else where you could find support and ask questions specific to your region. Wishing you the best!
