- I thought it would be fun to do a more focus repot and chat today, taking you through everything I do to keep my Alocasia Micholitziana (aka the Alocasia Frydek) happy and growing beautifully. My Frydek has sized up so much in the time I've had her, and today I plan on setting her up for even more success, taking her growth to the next level 🌿

I got a baby Frydek 3wks ago and is thriving. It already gave me a new leaf and is on the lower end of 62F and 50% humidity. It even has a corm sprouting next to it! So far, very happy 🤞🏻The most vigorous out of the 10 different Alocasia I have 😊
Love this style of video for focused tips while also repotting!!!💚☺️
Yay I'm so glad! I enjoyed doing it this way too!
I have had my first frydek for a couple of weeks now, and it’s currently rehabbing from shipping and converting to Pon. I’m seeing new growth and we haven’t lost any more leaves! I’m excited for mine to eventually look as glorious as yours.
Ugh, this plant is so freaking beautiful. The long and angular leaves are my favorite, coupled with the bold white veining, and velvet texture. Mhmm, perfect. 👌
Yep, that's it, looks like I'm ordering one tomorrow. 😅
Edit: Oh, I'd love to find a few corms somewhere. I love growing from corm, so satisfying.
I bought an alocasia frydek just a cuople of hours ago
, and now this video.... Love it!
Considering that Alocasia originate from a swampy environment I'm not at all surprised they do well in Hyro and Semi-hydro. I know a fellow plant lover who will try to grow them in and around her pond this summer as an experiment of sorts.
It's so beautiful 😍
Mine died back during the winter cause my power went out to long but I’m so excited to have it grow back and to get it to size up as big as yours ♥️ it’s so beautiful!
Lots of questions answered here. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge!
I put my Alocasia Frydek variegated into Pon today. It’s my first time using Pon so I hope I
did everything right and it does well!
Key thing is keep a good eye on the roots! Alocasias are a bit dramatic haha
Oh my you read my mind just asked for a video on alocasia care on your video with Emma swapping plants ❤. Answered lots of my thoughts only concern now is transferring from soil to semi hydro xx
I've had a few Alocosia disasters but got one left that's doing great, a Calcutta that's managed get upto 13 leaves without dropping any old ones. Had in various locations but bathroom seems to be it's favourite (with West facing window). Might have to try a Frydek!
Your silver wire got me thinking you should add some jewellery charms to give it some character 😅. Love your videos ❤
Thank you so much for this video! It came at a perfect time for me as I just got one a few weeks ago and am trying to learn all the tips I can to keep it happy!
Your videos are delightful. 🌿
Beautiful plant Claire!
This has been my dream plant for years. I’ve just bought one and I cannot wait for it to arrive 😁😁
That is one glorious plant, well done!
She’s beautiful!!! I love the clear pots ❤
I'm growing a huge alocasia semi hydroponic in leca and it loves it. No pests ever in many years.
Loved the video, and have admired that Frydek ever since you got it. The trick to the spiral is to make it first (with a circle of wire on the bottom to fit the pot) and then just weave the stems through the spiral. Baubles can be added last. 8 gauge copper is stiff enough for even tall ones like the Sarak. I encourage everyone to join your patreon, the discord group is lively, your live chats are a blast, and the members are lovely!🥰
Great idea with the copper wire! I think what you’ve done looks good
Great timing--my jacklyn baby got cold and lost all her leaves (3) so I am trying desperately to save her. So far the corm seems fine, but I am so worried! I hope hope hope she comes back. It is spring (sort of) and that is in my favor. Wish you were just around the corner so I could have you look at her! Then i missed the patreon live. Oh well I'll keep trying to be you and maybe I will save her!
❤❤ i love this plant....
I got my one from ASDA a few weeks ago to 'save' it as was full of thrips and dying. Whacked it into semi hydro to get all the shock over at once and isolated. Its poor roots have mostly gone and it dropped its leaves in protest barr one half leaf, but I think we are getting somewhere!
I've got my alocasias in straight LECA, they seem happy... I've had my x amazonica with four blooms... _at once_ .
I’ve ordered a variegated baby one of these plants and it should arrive tomorrow or the day after, I’m so excited. She was one of the top wish list plants for 2023.
I’m guessing she’ll arrive in soil, but once Freya is settled in, I will help her adapt to pon as well ❤❤. I have the Green version (2) in moss atm and pon as well.
I moved my frydek from a little or a meter from a SW facing window over to the "don't touch", 1 9'hr light corner with my diffenbachia Etta Rose Agleonema, etc. And it is already giving me two new- big!- leaves! Frydeks, so long as you make sure to check regularly for pests and don't let air dry out too much, are one of the easiest and most rewarding plants I own right now.
Hey Claire, you ever tried an air pruning pot for your plants? I was thinking about looking into buying some, but idk if they're actually worth the growth or not, even with all the glowing reviews online.
Oh- By the way, Mary-Anne has most likely used copper wire specifically due to electroculture, which is a psuedo-scientific idea with a lot of conflicting information, but from my understanding, the idea is basically that copper affects the immediate electromagnetic field around your plant, which creates a more hospitable environment for both the soils micro-biome and the plant itself. However, outside of that, there is some evidence to suggest that having a copper additive, like a copper (or brass) additive such as a stake, pole, or wire, the effects can be similar to charcoal, in the idea that the material is anti-microbial and may help control the levels of microbes in your soil and create a calmer, less competitive environment for the healthier micro-organisms, which is typically the ones that are symbiotic with your plant.
I’m the exact same way with my Alocasias. I’ve lost so many in reg. soil. Now I have tubs full of health babies and a good many in semi hydroponic, that are doing great. I found when I put them in reg. soil they would dry out way too fast. Love your videos!
Perfect 🎉
nice video
Love your vids and watch from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Question 1...when you added leca to the bottom, I noticed you didn't rinse or soak them first. Will the 'dust' from them clog the pot and/or roots?
#2...can I repot my Frydek in my homemade chunky mix as soon as I get her? Would that be too stressful after traveling during delivery?
Can wait to get my Frydek next week!
💚
I'm eagerly waiting soil ninja to be available in Finland too! I have access to Lechuza basic pon, but I'd really like to get the coarse semi-hydro mix from soil ninja. Somehow normal Lechuza pon costs very much on Amazon DE but basic pon doesn't. Sometimes the shipping fees are sky high and sometimes the sellers just won't ship to Finland at all🙄
Hi Claire. Loved this, 20:09 very helpful - thank you. If you’re considering selling a corm I would be very interested please 😊
watching this while my frydek is giving up on life, dying back and only giving me tiny, straggly leaves
Thanks a lot for this video!! I have a question: I would like to separate baby Frydeks from their mother plant (which are currently in soil), and I would like to try growing the babies in semi hydro (Lechuza Pon). I am new to Lechuza Pon and I was wondering - given that it has some slow releasing fertilizer as one of its substrate components, would you suggest not using a liquid fertilizer at first? My understanding is that the slow releasing fertilizer should last 3-6 months, and I was thinking of starting to supplement with liquid fertilizer around month 3, gradually increasing the dose/frequency up to recommended dose from there. Thanks a lot in advance!
I live in Hawaii and have this in a pot outside; in a covered semi-shaded corner but not deep in the corner and it gets bright afternoon light there but with that slight covered protection. It is sometimes looking pretty great and then dies back before coming back. Any suggestions to help it be its best? I am going to apply some of your tips so hopefully that helps...I will likely try a different soil.
Hi Claire, Where are you getting your Tower pots from?
Would you say that most alocasias could be care for in similar way I have an alocasia SP it’s small and had 5 leaves on it when I got it but I only have one now. I’m trying all the things that I did with my alocasia Polly I’m hoping it will survive. But if you have any tips one this one please share
I have a small variegated Frydek that I'm struggling with I ordered pon and want to move it to that. Could you tell me how to do that to keep me from killing it?
I don't have access to pon, would aquarium gravel work?
Is your Lechuza pon the orchid one? It looks different than mine and I have the regular Lechuza pon. Yours looks chunkier.
Claire, do you have a link for your clear pots?
Soil ninja or ebay😊
First! Hey Claire!! Unrelated- can i prop my hoya cuttings in perlite, or would water be better? Those are my options right now
Either would work fine. You can also prop them straight into soil or semi-hydro substrate and they'll likely root!
@@TheJungleHaven thanks Claire! You’re the best! I feel like you’re my pal just from spending so many hours “hanging out” with you and learning from you!
Hi Claire. Do you have an alocasia cuprea? If so, can I pleeeaaase ask for a short video or advice about care for it? I've killed 4 already :( thrips and overwatering
Have you tried it in semi-hydro?
@@TheJungleHavenNope.. All plants are in soil. When I tried semi hydro hmthey didn't do well...
Am I neurotic af for insisting on rinsing all of my semi hydro substrate before using it? Is that a whole long, arduous step I could be skipping altogether?
I cant say If it's neurotic, it may be but I do it too. I am way too scared of mold or other Problems that might pop of If I don't 😂
This plant only gives me ache.. I was able to get it through winter (BARELY) only to now completely just die in front of me due to the change to spring. 💀
Mine just keeps dying slowly 😢 can we swap 😅
Fiiiirst 🎉
