In the first season, Suzaku refused to join Zero because of Zero's methods. Suzaku was willing to join with Lelouch, a long time friend, and accomplish almost anything with him. The fact here we see Lelouch and Suzaku uniting to take over Britania is one thing, but in Suzaku adopting the title of Knight of Zero, it shows that Suzaku is also willing to join Zero after everything that he's gone through. Suzaku ended up becoming the Knight that he wanted to be but he had to join Zero to do it. That's just brilliant, in my opinion.

I like how Lelouch is almost mocking the Black Knights. You betrayed me because Schneizel promised you Japan. So I killed the Emperor and took back Britannia, which Schneizel can no longer use. I even joined with Suzuku, our longtime rival and enemy ace throughout the series. Hell, I’ll even title him the Knight of “Zero” just to rub it in your face that I AM ZERO and that without me there wouldn’t be the Black Knights. We all know it’s for the Zero Requiem, but Lelouch must be feeling pretty good about himself in that moment. 😂
This scene is so perfect because it feels like the entire series was meant to lead to this one moment of Lelouch having everyone recognize him as Emperor. Remember how humdrum and mediocre his life was as a student, before Geass and C.C. and Zero? This scene is him coming full circle.
When I first watched this episode, I was kinda crushed. Everything he'd done beforehand had been kinda pointless. Then Lelouch took over Britannia. Then I didn't give two fucks. XD

I've said it before and I'll say it again, what Lelouch has done here is more than just an act of conquest. He has summarily overtaken and geassed the near entirety of Britannia's upper nobility, government officials, and military chiefs, all likely summoned for this event. After all, who can refuse the summons of the Emperor? He now has more control over his state than any single man in history ever has-- after all, when he ordered them to acknowledge him as Emperor, he did more than just order them to acknowledge him as their monarch, one they can betray and maneuver against. Decades of Charles Zi Britannia's rule had turned the position of Emperor into even more of an absolute monarch than it already was, an immobile core around which all organs of government and society moved, and whose approval and authority were absolute. This is the tradition that was foremost in their minds when they were summoned-- the absolute will of their monarch. Lelouch, by using his Geass to make them acknowledge him as Emperor, has made that position, and in turn, his position, an absolute, fundamental part of their reality-- that he is Emperor, and he is to be obeyed absolutely and above all else. More importantly, it is the people who he has Geassed who matter. As I said, this is Britannia's upper crust, plutocrats, generals, aristocrats-- nearly every individual in the Empire that could gridlock him from making the changes he desires. Early on in R2, he commented on how Britannia was a closed world, whose aristocrats and plutocrats would gridlock and subvert any who sought to rise above them or disrupt the status quo. This is a coup unlike any other in history-- everyone who could oppose him in the Empire, minus a few missing individuals, is now absolutely obedient. This is how he was able to make all those sweeping changes near the end of R2-- he did not bother trying to unravel the Gordian Knot of Britannia's status quo, he simply cut his way through. This is why Lelouch will always be one of my favorite characters in anime. This moment right here. For all of R2's flaws, for all of the gaps of information in this series, this will stand out in my mind as a moment of perfection. A singular act of dominance and hegemony that can overturn an Empire, its foundational institutions and centuries of entrenched hate, racism, and aristocratic excess.

I don't understand your later question, though-- what do you mean by them turning against him later on? As far as I know, they all stayed loyal until he died at the end of the season, at which point, by being dead, he was no longer Emperor. I imagine if he did come back to life, the Geass would still be in effect, and he could easily take over the country if he wished.

He probably has a good dozen or so half-sisters to deal with.

Something that I noticed upon rewatching the show is that as of the moment where Lelouch becomes emperor we stop hearing his internal dialogue. The audience, much like the other characters in the show, are distanced from the Lelouch we follow up to this point and are forced to wonder if he really was corrupted. This small detail makes the reveal of the zero requiem all the more beautiful. God this show is incredible

I wonder if he actually would recognize any random person in a Zero costume as Zero. In all likelihood, Schneizel has to believe that the person in the costume IS zero, not just have the look of zero. Though the specifics aren't fleshed out, I think it's an interesting plot hole.

ramz I'm simply going by how they would put it in the show. Even somewhere the emperor says something about the strong devouring the weak. Some people don't have the guts or the desire to seize power though. In human society the 'strongest' isn't necessarily the physically strongest.

The irony of R2 (and the Zero Requiem) is that the ones loyal to Lelouch in the final days (with the exception of CC) are all people who have no business being loyal to him: Suzaku, Jeremiah, Nina, Cornelia, Lloyd and Cecile (people he has betrayed and opposed). Whereas those he has helped, supported and been close too were the ones trying to kill him: Nunally, the Black Knights, his mother, Schneizel etc.

You know what? No one here is talking about how broken Suzaku is. He is able to dodge knightmare bullets, automated turrets, be able to take on entire groups of men, break metal rifle spears, and become the single greatest knightmare pilot able to kill Bismarck with little to no problems, and destroy entire squadrons and armies. Kallen is the same way. And what links them? They are both Japanese, which means Japanese have the capability of being completely broken in this Show.
Suzaku is a pure blood Japanese, and Kallen is only half Japanese meaning that yes without Lelouch they would've never able to join the Britinnian Army.
Its the old monarchy code. If a child were to kill his father/emperor, he is granted title as king, even if he's the youngest and not next in line to be king.

How exactly? Other than Geass i doubt Lelouch can come close to actually beating him. That guy is extremely powerful where as Lelouch is weak as fuck for a human without Geass or his genius. The series itself shows at times that Lelouch is very weak physically, so one attack from that guy would leave him dead.
Imagine being a random citizen and seeing your entire government get beat by 2 kids then suddenly they all are hailing him. The people must be confused as fuck and if they talk to any of the politicians they would just be like what do you mean Lelouch is our emperor
This is hands down the most epic scene in the series. It starts off with Lelouch just savagely admitting to his crime, then boom, in comes Suzaku to join the party as the Knight of Zero, and as the grand finale he grasses the entire room to obey him. My appendix is in smithereens.
Suzaku: "I'm all ears, Lelouch. What's the plan?" Lelouch: "So check this out, I'll tell everyone on international TV that I totally waxed daddio. They'll totally freak and send guards, and that's where you come in. You're gonna hide in the rafters, come down, and totally disarm those dudes with a swift kick. It's gonna look sick!" Suzaku: "Dude, hell yeah, solid!" Lelouch: "It's going to be cinematic af"
I love how you can hear the heart break in Kallens voice. The man she loves ascends the throne of the country she despises , and the warrior she respects above most siding with him. These two are honestly unstoppable once they put their plan into action. If they paired up from the beginning barely anyone would stand a chance.
Like, I know Lelouch's metagame was to draw all the world's hatred unto himself and then have Zero kill him so the world could move forward, but man oh man, that look at 2:15 you can tell, just for a moment, He's reveling in this. 'I am your new god!"

This scene is so perfect because it feels like the entire series was meant to lead to this one moment of Lelouch having everyone recognize him as Emperor. Remember how humdrum and mediocre his life was as a student, before Geass and C.C. and Zero? This scene is him coming full circle.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, what Lelouch has done here is more than just an act of conquest. He has summarily overtaken and geassed the near entirety of Britannia's upper nobility, government officials, and military chiefs, all likely summoned for this event. After all, who can refuse the summons of the Emperor? He now has more control over his state than any single man in history ever has-- after all, when he ordered them to acknowledge him as Emperor, he did more than just order them to acknowledge him as their monarch, one they can betray and maneuver against.
Decades of Charles Zi Britannia's rule had turned the position of Emperor into even more of an absolute monarch than it already was, an immobile core around which all organs of government and society moved, and whose approval and authority were absolute. This is the tradition that was foremost in their minds when they were summoned-- the absolute will of their monarch. Lelouch, by using his Geass to make them acknowledge him as Emperor, has made that position, and in turn, his position, an absolute, fundamental part of their reality-- that he is Emperor, and he is to be obeyed absolutely and above all else.
More importantly, it is the people who he has Geassed who matter. As I said, this is Britannia's upper crust, plutocrats, generals, aristocrats-- nearly every individual in the Empire that could gridlock him from making the changes he desires. Early on in R2, he commented on how Britannia was a closed world, whose aristocrats and plutocrats would gridlock and subvert any who sought to rise above them or disrupt the status quo. This is a coup unlike any other in history-- everyone who could oppose him in the Empire, minus a few missing individuals, is now absolutely obedient. This is how he was able to make all those sweeping changes near the end of R2-- he did not bother trying to unravel the Gordian Knot of Britannia's status quo, he simply cut his way through.
This is why Lelouch will always be one of my favorite characters in anime. This moment right here. For all of R2's flaws, for all of the gaps of information in this series, this will stand out in my mind as a moment of perfection. A singular act of dominance and hegemony that can overturn an Empire, its foundational institutions and centuries of entrenched hate, racism, and aristocratic excess.

+Brooks Skyers I'm not sure what you mean. Cornelia wasn't at this speech-- she was with Schneizel, observing from Cambodia, and as such would not have been geassed. I don't understand your later question, though-- what do you mean by them turning against him later on? As far as I know, they all stayed loyal until he died at the end of the season, at which point, by being dead, he was no longer Emperor. I imagine if he did come back to life, the Geass would still be in effect, and he could easily take over the country if he wished.

Lelouch as I recall it was at one point either 11th or 17th in line for the throne, I'm not sure which, meaning there were at least ten and sixteen other heirs, respectively. He probably has a good dozen or so half-sisters to deal with.

Something that I noticed upon rewatching the show is that as of the moment where Lelouch becomes emperor we stop hearing his internal dialogue. The audience, much like the other characters in the show, are distanced from the Lelouch we follow up to this point and are forced to wonder if he really was corrupted. This small detail makes the reveal of the zero requiem all the more beautiful. God this show is incredible
That’s really interesting, well observed. You do hear his thoughts regarding Nunally having the same idea, but not his thoughts explaining the Zero Requiem plan.
Lelouch is the only fictional character I wish was real simply so I could kneel before him and swear my allegiance.

The irony of R2 (and the Zero Requiem) is that the ones loyal to Lelouch in the final days (with the exception of CC) are all people who have no business being loyal to him: Suzaku, Jeremiah, Nina, Cornelia, Lloyd and Cecile (people he has betrayed and opposed).
Whereas those he has helped, supported and been close too were the ones trying to kill him: Nunally, the Black Knights, his mother, Schneizel etc.

Lelouch one of the smartest and clever anime characters of all time. love this guy. his plan was brilliant, he pretty much did the whole "you either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain" thing....well sorta the same but not quite. but his plan nonetheless was smart.

Lelouch planned to be killed in his talk with Suzaku. He was only playing the villain role because people would hate him regardless, but at the end of the day, his plan suceeded
Lelouch was a hero to the end. I'd say he more embodies the saying "The road to hell is paved by good intentions" - he ultimately succeeded in creating a better world at the cost of countless innocent lives, mostly due to the Euphemia accident.
From the Big 3 (Light, Lelouch, and Eren), Lelouch is the only one that reached his goal and died in an epic way.
Attention entire world, hear my proclamation. I am Lelouch vi Britannia, Emperor of the Holy Britannian Empire and your only ruler! Schneizel has surrendered to me. You know what? No one here is talking about how broken Suzaku is. He is able to dodge knightmare bullets, automated turrets, be able to take on entire groups of men, break metal rifle spears, and become the single greatest knightmare pilot able to kill Bismarck with little to no problems, and destroy entire squadrons and armies. Kallen is the same way. And what links them? They are both Japanese, which means Japanese have the capability of being completely broken in this Show.
Suzaku is a pure blood Japanese, and Kallen is only half Japanese meaning that yes without Lelouch they would've never able to join the Britinnian Army.

How exactly? Other than Geass i doubt Lelouch can come close to actually beating him. That guy is extremely powerful where as Lelouch is weak as fuck for a human without Geass or his genius. The series itself shows at times that Lelouch is very weak physically, so one attack from that guy would leave him dead.

This is hands down the most epic scene in the series. It starts off with Lelouch just savagely admitting to his crime, then boom, in comes Suzaku to join the party as the Knight of Zero, and as the grand finale he grasses the entire room to obey him. My appendix is in smithereens.

These two are honestly unstoppable once they put their plan into action. If they paired up from the beginning barely anyone would stand a chance.
