Another excellent video helping R230 owners better understand the intricacies of these vehicles and providing important tips and measures to take to prevent costly failures. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your insights with us. Cheers,
Another great video! Many thanks! When I bought my SL350 I had no sponge over the roof pump, so checked eBay and found them between £50-£60 plus P&P new from suppliers in Latvia and neighbouring countries. However I also checked the main dealer expecting the worst but was pleasantly surprised - £32 available next day!
Much appreciated, thank you for the handy tips. It's very easy to overlook these pumps as they are tucked away. Next time it's dry I will have a look at mine.
This video really helped me in my current situation and I indeed had a lot of water in the bottom of my trunked. the PSE pump almost got damaged but I let it dry completely, replaced the fuse and my locks work fine again. More of these kind of videos please for the Mercedes SL R230. Greetings from Munich, Germany :o)
I recently bought an r230 SL63. The power trunk/boot opens fine but the buttons to close it dont work, however the soft close does work. I guess I will have to take a look in there. Thanks for the videos they are all very helpful. You have a new subscriber
should be an easy fix, go to the right side latch on your separator, there is a microswitch underneath, with a connector. It can get dirty connections, try cleaning them.
I would say always keep car off if you can. But I know if you disconnect with the power on it will be fine. In fact if you disconnect the power to the pneumatic and back in it will trigger the pump.
Really very interesting indeed - I am hoping you can help me with a related question. When I push the key fob on my SL350 R230, the doors open but it takes another 6/7 seconds for the boot to unlock. I'm guessing this is because the tube from the pump to the boot lock has a small leak. Do you have a video - or know of one - that shows how to undo everywhere the tube is located, how to identify the leak and/or replace the tube? Many thanks! Ian
Hi Ian, Thanks if you subscribed, it makes it easier for me to get in contact. It does sound like either a leaking pump actuator at the lock or maybe the pipe going to the actuator. First have a look for leaks as per my video: th-cam.com/video/dPhSTnUtCdY/w-d-xo.html Then check this link that explains all about the pump actuator and more: w220.wiki/Pneumatic_System_Equipment_%28PSE%29_Pump The port you are looking for is labelled 'HECK' that goes to the boot lock.
Hi mate sorry to hear of your woes. So your roll bar is stuck up? Can you access the trunk and check left side under matt to see if your roof pump has correct level of oil in? ( about half full gauge on side). Have you tried holding the buttons for roll bar under lever flap? I have heard people disconnect rear battery for 2 mins can reset roll bar. Let me know how you get on 👍
Have you done the BCM mod? You should try to revert the car back to original, looks so much better, these are going to be future classics. I've have seen many "blacked out" R230 and it doesn't suit the style at all.
Could be a whole myriad of reasons, the windows and boots have micro switches that all have to work in synchronisation. I would get yourself a diagnostic tool or go to a garage to find out what the codes are.
Also. Does the pse pump have anything to do with the roof opening? I took the pump out and cleaned it so it’s working. Then opened the roof. All good. Then closed the all good. Next day not working??
Hi. Sorry to be a pain in the ass again. But I’m curious in to what sort of sound system I can put in. I do have a double din alpine head unit. But I do enjoy a good bit of bass. Any suggestions Thanks. Marc

You know what, I would save the money if you haven't bought the sponge it's just for sound deadening , you could use any soft material really
@@GrooveOn …I thought about it, but for £32 I was happy enough…

@@richardchadwick9836 hi mate, not on the SL but on my CLK and E class, I got to the bulb at back through underneath bumper
Great content - thanks from an SL 55 owner, greetings from Munich
Oh wow, I would have loved to have got the sl55, but I bought my sl350 3.7L on a whim, maybe I'll trade in😉

Nice video thanks and how do you refill the oil for the roof
The video I’ve been waiting for!
Thanks mate!
Could you help perform a roof seal repair if obviously I pay you? Thankyou
Thank you!

Glad you enjoyed it
Hi very informative. My SL350 roof not operational. Comes up with fault boot close boot separator…this is in the closed position. Any tips? Thanks

Do you disconnect battery before disconnecting plugs like that for inspection or no need?
I would say always keep car off if you can. But I know if you disconnect with the power on it will be fine. In fact if you disconnect the power to the pneumatic and back in it will trigger the pump.

Hello.
my 2004 Sl55 have problem.
Raise roll over bar. Top won't go down! Would you able to give me the idea how to fix it?
Thank you, Sir.

Hi. I have a problem. When I try and put the roof down I can hear relays clicking but no motion on the roof. Have you any idea. Thanks
Could be a whole myriad of reasons, the windows and boots have micro switches that all have to work in synchronisation. I would get yourself a diagnostic tool or go to a garage to find out what the codes are.
Also. The anti roll bar has stoooed working. I.e. being able to put it up or down with the two buttons under the roof opening lever
Also. Does the pse pump have anything to do with the roof opening? I took the pump out and cleaned it so it’s working. Then opened the roof. All good. Then closed the all good. Next day not working??
No mate, the pse pump sits above the roof pump which is hydraulic, left hand side in trunk under floor

Hi i have nois from the vacum pump, like tik tik tik, do you now why?
When the pneumatic pump engages, it will run with a slight hum for couple seconds thats it, not sure why it's ticking mate?
