    Very useful guide. I have an SLK with the same or very similar roof mechanism. I have been using WURTH GUMMI-PFLEGE (Rubber care) which is good (and I saw recommend on another Merc roof maintenance video) but, it's a spray and you need to be very careful it doesn't go where you don't want it to. I will definitely be trying out the product you recommended. Thank you 👍

    • @GrooveOn
      @GrooveOn  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah yes, the infamous join. I had that to. You can adjust this underneath the trim , you need to take it off and you'll see an adjustment screw. Do a turn at a time until it closes right. If you are wanting a quick fix then do what I did. Get some decent rubber tape and cut it to the shape of the join where the two meet, clean area and stick it on. If you have double sided tape, then just put some grease on the side you don't want to be sticky, be generous as it helps the seal. I've had it like this for 3 years and it's not leaked. Let me know how you get on 👍

    Thanks for this - we have a silicone cleaning spray called Mr Min in South Africa and it did the trick. Dirt came off and silicone shined it up. I didn’t do the wood thing, but it gave me enough time to do the job and a clear beeping before dropping the roof. Will pop into hardware store later to see if I can get a proper silicone and just redo it quickly, but at least its clean now.

    • @GrooveOn
      @GrooveOn  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, silicon and paint do not go when you are spray painting, as they give you inclusions. However for already painted surfaces is fine, it won't damage it. In fact a lot of cleaning products for trims etc use silicon on their products. You are only using a tiny amount on your glove remember

    Also, in the video is not clear, do you let the oil dry for some time before closing the roof?

    • @GrooveOn

    Thanks dude, great video! I will do the same before storing my SL in the garage for winter. Your vídeos are quite helpful, keep the great work! My 2004 kneels on the front right side when parked for several hours, and I get the red ABC light on. If I lift it with the ABC button or I just drive forward or rearwards she immediately levels and the ABC light gets off. Any idea what might be wrong?

    • @GrooveOn
      @GrooveOn  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi the you're a braver man than me. I was going to buy the SL500 but decided as as I was using the car to commute from London to Scotland I went with the 3.7L without ABC. If the car remains level when engine is on, then it suggest the compressor is maintaining the pressure and keeping the suspension up. All I think is happening is the suspension on that side may have a slight leak when engine off, which you can just replace

    • @jeroenkatja5759
      @jeroenkatja5759 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GrooveOnThe R230 has hydraulic suspension, so it has s pump not a compressor. In this case it's a leaking valve block. Well known issue with ABC suspension, can be fixed for a couple of pounds, you can also buy them new from dealer for about 1500 pounds

      @racqueteer5 Silicone lube keeps the rubbers moist and prevents them cracking .
      This helps to keep water out and prevents leaks .
      The silicone lube helps to keep the roof from creaking as dried out rubbers begin to perish over time if not kept clean .
      I’m not sure hot water and dishwasher liquid will do quite the same thing.
      It will keep the rubber seals clean of dust and dirt, but it won’t prevent the rubber perishing over time. ( drying out).
