  • Our beloved Mercedes SL R230 are getting old and TLC is needed. I have had a small drip into the trunk/boot for a while and internally behind seats. I used the cameras inside the car and tested with water to get to root cause, I came up with a cheap simple fix and ingenious modification to detect water leaks too.
    Rubber pipe outside diameter is 10mm
    The products I used in the video are all on my Amazon store front:

    Made me chuckle a bit when at 17 minutes you cut the tubing and it fell to the ground and then flew back up to you. Good one!
    I ordered a Icarsoft version two after watching your video on it. Cheers.

    Great video. I fitted 10mm tubing last week. Poured water over rear window and no leak in boot, so looks promising. Now waiting for rain ☔

    Really appreciate all the knowledge. I have an '07 R230 and have noticed some water in the trunk, but not knowing where it might originate. I put some 'damp-rid' type closet hangers in there and they do absorb moisture and last about a month before I need to replace. I have an issue with the top hydraulic cylinders leaking right now and that is a considerable investment, but I do love my car.

    What might be better a more supple tubing you could try a catapult tubing you can get replacement tubing from farmers suppliers, also heating up the Seals with a hair dryer first night sort out the indentation problem even if you remove the tubing afterwards

    Thank you for this comprehensive documentary. Got my SL500 18mths ago, ive just cleaned and oiled all the seals , So far thats been perfect, but you’ve given me so many more details , especially that nut that’s accessible at the rear when the roof is up. I use the Mercedes sliding oil, would you recommend a cheaper alternative ?,, this is great you documented this , thank you

    Enjoyed the content thanks - I've had a boot leak where its got very wet around the soft close mechanism - seems to be getting in around the 3rd brake light in the centre of the boot lid. Ordered a new part but for now just smeared some vaseline around the edges which should hold for a few days. Mine is a 2005 SL350 :)

    • @GrooveOn
      @GrooveOn  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      hey there, good work, the seal on the brake light is light foam isn't it. The vaseline should hopefully do the trick ! let me know, Thanks if you chose to follow me

    • @GrooveOn
      @GrooveOn  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Mike how did the Vaseline hold up? If it does not hold, then you can use a thin amount of sealant and wipe off. For automotive industry and the Rail industry I use a brand called Sikaflex, its a professional sealant and adhesive that is waterproof and sets in water too.

    I was told to keep using a product from Sonnax for the seals from an Audi techie , last owner, 17:51 It’s a silicon based liquid. Comes in 100ml bottle. Full name in English I can’t remember as my bottle is in Polish 🤷‍♂️. Been used on my 03 for years apparently and the seals are super soft and flexible Think it costs about £10 on Amazon

    Yeah, mine doesn’t leak however it did happen to me I open the roof and I shut down the engine and it collapsed on me so I learn my lesson. Good thing to do is lubricate the seals with petroleum jelly. Good luck. my SL 550 it is 2009 with, AMG package color is silver with burgundy interior.

    @jackiebedford1609 ปีที่แล้ว

    I checked in the Sikka 221 and it doesn't have a good shelf life. A friend of mine is a director of C Tec and these are his comments "CT1 Black would do the same job with increased bond strength, no shrinkage and without the odour/solvents you get with a polyurethane."

    • @GrooveOn
      @GrooveOn  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's interesting to know, I have sikaflex in my garage that I've had for 5-years and that's what I used in the video without any issues. The product is used in the areas that I work in engineering mainly automotive and train applications. CT1 is more of a domestic brand rather than professional, but still good. As long as it is not a sealant only, it must be adhesive sealant combined that can set in water.
