I feel like these guys have a lot more respect for Wayne these days. At least that's the impression I got from watching this after their new "Is Lil Wayne really retiring" video
I remember being delusional like overbite red hat guy, I was such a die hard Wayne fan that I thought this album was wayyy better then it actually was. To me this was actually where I really started to notice Wayne's decline. Can't see how they thought this was on par w/ C3, the album sounded very unfocused and he was nowhere near as sharp as previous projects.
I'm proud of how far they have come and still check their videos which I really like. this era however is my favourite. so raw and unpolished, and super casual.
That one kid is annoying. He can't take any criticism and the critiques aren't even going towards him. Every construction someone says, he has some bullshit excuse for Lil Wayne's terrible lyrics. On another note, the "reals g's move in silence like lasagna" is pretty funny.
As someone who grew up during this time, and lived through the public reaction to nearly every Wayne album... the perception of Wayne over the years and how its changed is fascinating. He had a lot of fans and always has, but a lot of hip hop heads hated him and thought that albums like this and every other one he released during this time, before, and beyond were not good. Nowadays, people call him a legend, you see more modern comments on this vid for example saying "this album's actually good" and hyping up all the albums people shitted on back when they came out... it's crazy. I think what happened is the kids/teens/young adults of today heard glimpses of Wayne back in the day, so now they're the ones perpetuating this new view of Wayne to the world while they listen to more popular artists in 2023. Wayne is a legend to them, and the artists they listen to, so that's the perception he has nowadays. A lot of people just respect him more in general, even ones that disliked him back in the day, such as some members of DEHH. A lot of people will probably be confused by this comment, but you have to understand, I lived through the release of all his shit. I saw everyone SHIT on MULTIPLE Wayne albums in a row. I saw everyone shit on nearly every single Wayne release for a very long period of time, like 2009-2018, until Tha Carter 5. After Carter 3 and before Carter 5... all of that, for the most part, was shitted on, and people said Wayne fell off, Wayne is garbage, etc. ... Carter 5 also could have contributed to the way people view him nowadays because it was actually solid and it came out at the perfect time. It's just very weird to me how someone can release music over and over and over and over and every time everyone's saying its trash, then I wake up one morning in 2020+ and he's a legend. I'm trying to figure out what I missed exactly. My opinion of Wayne is unchanged, the new perception of him hasn't really changed my thoughts on him. 2005-2009 is peak Wayne. All his dope mixtapes and his best albums, Carter 2 and 3, came out during those years. I still think most people today agree with that and rightfully so. But idk, I really just find it odd but also interesting how the young listeners of today are actually hyping up some albums that were shitted on when they came out, and they're changing the perception of certain artists and albums. Perhaps it could also be that Tha Carter 2 and 3 can be considered classics today... when back then, they weren't, they were just dope albums. So he wasn't a legend back then since he was still at his peak in terms of popularity, and then followed by his decline. Then he came back with Carter 5 which people liked... idk, if anyone has any thoughts on this, feel free to respond. I feel like it could be something obvious that I'm missing and maybe someone could help out. For the record, I'm not even that old myself, I've just been listening to hip hop for a very long time. And I'm not a Lil Wayne hater, just an objective hip hop fan and at this point in Wayne's career, he's probably released just as many, if not, more bad/garbage projects as good/great ones... perhaps the strength of his work from 2005-2009 elevated him to legend status in 2023, but I definitely feel like those albums are looked at more fondly in retrospect and I'm just not sure how you could ignore the garbage. Like I said, it has to be that "the garbage" to me is actually good to a lot of people nowadays. Idk.
When i heard the intro and heard the line "Im going hard like my water broke". Man i knew what was in store me. Holy shit, like you said Myke C-Town, this album was comical.
glad i finished watching this vid, glad to hear that people realize that effectively ´this is wayne´ and you gota throw your ´commercial hat on´, was getting kinda worried at the beginning there, mike says is like it is, crackin up by the end lol
@coolnesss16 I feel you. I think the statement should have been "if you ONLY listen to hip hop for lyrics you'll hate this album." There's nothing wrong with listening to catchy music every now and then. It's not that I don't think people that like Wayne like lyrical rappers...it's more that I don't see why anyone would go to Wayne for lyrics. But I agree with you.
PS: I really dig what you guys are doing, and I found you through the needle drop. Also, props to Mykecetown for mentioning the Hail Mary Mallon album in a one of the reviews! Great album!
Hey, C-town, here is a good punch line for ya: "Like a mentral, 'my lyrics' bleed through the pencil and leak on the sheet of the tablet in my mind " The simile and metaphor is pretty deep.

@tubularguppy Yeah, I feel you. But I just meant that it would be different hearing Wayne come immediately after any of those guys (except Shyne...yuck). I know it's one big broken up track (which is kinda sorta cool), but I still think it was wise of him to not really put himself on the track with those dudes at the same time. Know what I mean?
@mykectown Not one of you guys.. I'm just referring to some of these comments that seem to bash wayne for not being lyrical..and, now it almost seems like some of waynes fans are turning there back on him after this release.. I'm just wondering what did they expect you know..
@mykectown You know.. I actually really liked C4. But i'm proudly a Lil wayne fan! I enjoy all your opinions though, good to see people passionate about hip hop.
@Bangaz22 Nope. Wrong. I like some. Just not much. Kanye, Nas, Pun, Big (if they count). I even liked Blueprint 3. It just turns out that the stuff we've reviewed didn't sit well with me.
@Bangaz22 true true true i feel you i see where you coming from but like i said ill give a underground on the come up artist a chance but if you a popular mainstream artist i most likely wont give it a second listen cause that album might not be for me but i see what you sayin hey im just a real jaded hip hop fan sometimes i get pissed cause i gotta go far an beyond to find some good fresh NON POP hip hop im glad i stumble on these guys they have some good reviews an keep it 100

@Altuawn1 Haha! Wayne is very touch and go for me. Most people don't know but I have bought Wayne albums before. He was much better than he is now. I'm talking Wayne with 500 Degrees, The Block Is Hot, etc. It's not like I hate Wayne. I can easily go from mainstream to underground.
11:13 "Which is why he's Wayne because he applies something you'd never thought he could apply to a situation" I actually burst out laughing at that :p. He's really overthinking his lyrics.
Dude in the red hat is right. Wayne is a comedian and mixed with the production it's a good album. 20 years from now I can hear "She Will" and it will sound like fall 2011 to me. He made another snapshot of a specific time period and I'll bump "Two Shots" til I die.
@SSBMSynikaL And, for the record, Ken is actually a perfect example of someone that can go from commercial rap to backpacker-type shit. And he enjoyed this album. He's obviously not a backpacker and not a mainstreamer. So you really shouldn't make things so black and white.
@mykectown damn that line was good tho, but in my defence, english is not my first language, and I live in a french environment so lyrics/punchlines are harder to get sometimes.
@TheBlakek66 The actual argument was about Carter 3 vs Carter 4. No one's talking about his first few albums. The point is, those two albums aren't that different to say I love Carter 3, but Carter 4 is horrible. I'm not even a Wayne fan and I can tell the dude has a formula. He's stuck to that formula for years. It's just now getting old? OK. I guess...
Lil Wayne is Lil Wayne. I love him just because of that. He is himself. He owns mainstream and that's just it. He is the best alive. New Orleans got him...
