This was the perfect channel to get me into hip-hop. Intelligent, super-rad dudes having honest back-and-forth debate about why these albums do or do not work totally changed my perspective. Thanks, guys, keep doing what you do.
I can't believe so many ppl are bored with album. it was only like a few tracks I hated. it's not a classic but it's nice. especially compared to most recent mainstream music
I can't lie, I fuck with this album pretty heavy. I don't think it's an Illmatic or a Madvillainy, but it's very audibly pleasing. The bangers are big, the production is lavish and expensive, and the lyrics don't make you think. It's nice to get ripped and just chill to this album.
Their problem was that they thought the album was bad in conjunction with the title, hadit been called something else besides "watch the throne" would you all have liked it better?
Such a well put together album, the mixing and sequencing are near perfect. The lyrics are so relevant and Jay and Ye are going at it, each song is a battle on who's got the better verse.
I thought it was decent. Production was on point throughout, except for That's My Bitch. I don't have any problems with Kanye on the album other than he wasn't on it as much as he should've been. Welcome to the Jungle, Who Gon Stop Me, Why I Love You were more of Jay Z ft. Kanye than Jay Z and Kanye. The parts of the album I didn't like were mostly Jay Z. He's been pretty uninspired since the Black Album, but I think being around Kanye for the whole album like he used to be back in the early 2000s got him inspired on a few tracks. 6/10
I've listened to this album a lot since it's release thinking it would grow on me and it hasn't...I wanted to like it but I just can't...bored as hell...Magna Carta is better and I hate that album too
Watch the Throne was dope to me. And a lot of the songs will be amazing when you see them perform it live on tour. And remember, Jay said they re-did the album 3 times. At first, it was over the top lyrically but they want to make it more of an album that people would enjoy. So far its up there with my top contenders of hip hop album of the year. 1. Cunninlynguists - Oneirology 2. Jay-Z & Kanye West - Watch the Throne 3. Kendrick Lamar - Section.80 4. Big K.R.I.T. - Returnof4eva
+King Matty B Raps I believe that is why beezy did not feel Jay. A lot of times I do feel that Jay changes a bit with his style when he jumps on something with Kanye. I still enjoyed Watch the Throne and I can listen to the whole Deluxe Edition, but I understand why they did not enjoy it and why more Jay Z fans were disappointed. I noticed that since MBDTF. Jay Z is changing his style a bit, and it sounds influenced by Ye but I still feel he is good. He is the only Hip Hop artist that did not attempt or have to change with culture. Culture changed with him through the 20 years he has been on. I see it that way anyway.
I know this is late, but I kind of agree with Ken. A lot of people do love to just hate on Jay & Kanye so they root for it to be bad. Me being a fan of both, nearly two years later, I think it was just solid.
I couldn't agree with Myke-C and his thoughts on hip-hop talking about how rich the artist is now days. It's everywhere, and I'm fucking sick of it. All you hear in hip-hop are lyrics about Rolls Royce Phantoms, Ferrari's, and Lamborghinis, etc. That shit gets so old, I don't even feel comfortable listening to it because I can't relate at all, I'm the person they're mocking for having less money than them.
Thanks you guys. This discussion was awesome. Your points of view were all pretty interesting. Shoutout to Mike C-Town for what he said at the beginning of the show. He really is a punk :-) Concerning the album, WTT is not only a mediocre album. It is also a dangerous album. It epitomizes like it was never done before the conspicuous consumption. It's a shame that Jay-Z's fanboys don't seem to realize how violent this kind of attitude is to them.
the chosen one the album as a whole is mediocore to me but a couple songs are one of my fav jay or kanye songs ever period (murder to excellence (THAT BEAT), gotta have it, niggas in paris, New day (beautiful), the joy, no church in the wild)
I re-listened to the whole album again and man it's so obvious now that it was way ahead of it's time. It's such a timeless masterpiece that, in my opinion, it solidified Jay & Ye as the two Kings of modern-day Hip-hop.
My opinion; this album was good and respectable. Any album with Jay and Ye was going to provide elements of an incredible album and I believe WTT did just that. Some tracks better then others and I preferred Ye's verses alot but all in all I was not disappointed.
I think the album was great. It's neither Jay or Ye's best piece of work, but it was very good if you ask me, there isn't a single bad song, every song is sonically and lyrically good. There are also stand out songs that are just amazing. But I think Ye's MBDTF is better, but they aren't really comparable albums, but yeah
The last line by Kinge pretty much summarised it all. Another thing for us Jay&Kanye fans who thought it was aight, which is a reason why i didn't fuck with it in the beginning, was the "new" type of sound on the beats.
I liked the album a lot. I don't understand why people say the whole albums about money though. New Day, No Church In The Wild, Murder To Excellence, Made In America, Why I Love You & Welcome To Jungle have nothing to do with money. And that's half the album. The beats were very different & had lots of melodies I thought it was good. As far as rapping goes they weren't outstanding but they did their thing.
Whether you liked Kanye/Jay's previous work doesn't & shouldn't matter. Take the music for what it is. As musicians, you don't always have to bring something different, just as long as what you're doing, is done to a high standard.
For some reason I get the feeling that this is a prelude of things to come, even suggested in the name "Watch the Throne" it just reeks of a second project, I agree that they could have come with something game changing but I'm seeing this as a very expensive mixtape, dwelling in the comfort zone. Neither Jay nor Ye break a sweat, however there are a few genuinely entertaining spots, Now that we are watching the Throne maybe there is more to see from them as a duo, this could be a warm up.

@mkextra05 I wasn't being a fanboy. I was making a point. The implied point was that as "kings", if they were to do a straight lyrical, hip hop, boom bap album, people will still flock to it and they won't lose much. It's completely their choice.
This album wasn't good or bad. It was just something there. You take a few songs from it and listen to it at certain times but this album isn't one to be remembered for a long time or referenced in the future as good albums. It isn't going to be remembered which is why people disliked it so much because it is a Kanye and Jay Z collab.
