    Excellent comparison video thanks for the heads up. I've been using my 7 inch cold handle skillet which is all I need to cook spam and eggs in the bush.

      Thanks for dropping by the channel. 7 inch is a perfect size for me when I am solo, only ones I have are older cast iron though.

    The firebox stained because it wasnt seasoned. So basically it started to season while cooking the burger. A real test should have been set both pans up the way they say to be used. I.E. Firebox needed to be seasoned first. But all in all good video. Also when I'm cooking in the woods I want my pan to use as little fuel as possible. The firebox gets to temp much faster using less fuel, fuel is everything when out in the woods. My pick is the firebox 100% The other pan warps as well as you saw. It will keep warping. So stepping on it is not a permanent fix.

    This was great! I could tell you had a lot of fun with this! Man those are both lightweight pans but they sound pretty good. I really loved the added humor.

      Thanks for dropping by. I assume you are referring to the rounded sides and yes, in some cases that is a big plus in a skillet. It all depends on what and how you like to cook but I found this Firebox a worthy entrant into the market for sure!

    What do you think of the Paderno carbon steel baking skillet/pan sold by Ben's Backwoods as an alternate to these?

      Thanks for checking us out. In general I am a big fan of carbon steel and it is my preferred camping skillet.
      I think it is not a replacement for the light weight anodized aluminum when weight and ease of maintenance is a concern.

    I’m in the Uk and it seems it’s not possible to purchase the Fry bake here which is a shame, importing is way too expensive.
    I have both the large and small Firebox pans and I have been very happy with them. The Firebox plates nest perfectly with also handy.

    • @dickinaroundoutdoors8609
      @dickinaroundoutdoors8609  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have heard the Fry-Bake doesn't make it across to the UK sadly as they are top notch gear. The Firebox stuff is nice as well and I use a lot of it, primarily focusing on their stuff made in the USA. They also have a very high level of customer service.
      Not being political but I do like to support our geopolitical allies, heck I even have a Dualit toaster! The Firebox pan really did perform very well though and was an easy recommendation.
      Did you season yours?

    • @SnowyAspenHills
      @SnowyAspenHills ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 I did I season mine but it’s wearing away gradually, I won’t bother re-seasoning them, I use a lot of anodised aluminium baking trays for home oven use and they work well as there are.
      I try to use non stick as little as possible but have the GSI pinnacle pan for omelettes etc.
      I think you are correct in you assumption that the FireBox pan is a GSI that hasn’t had the non stick surface applied, they identical part from that. Pinnacle pan is a good non stick though, very happy with that and I don’t use it on high heat. It’s always good to support one’s own country and manufacturers,I have a couple of spun steel pans made by Netherton Foundry here in the UK, they call them glamping pans as the handle can be removed and reversed for packing/travel and the Oak scales can also be removed from the handle for open fire use.

    • @dickinaroundoutdoors8609
      @dickinaroundoutdoors8609  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those Netherten pans look really nice, I did a review of he OXO carbon pan a bit ago and really liked it as well as the GreenPan Clip non-stick series. The handle on the Netherten looks like it would be more solidly attached than either of my reviewed pans however.
      I appreciate you stopping by the channel!

    • @SnowyAspenHills
      @SnowyAspenHills ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 You can purchase lids for them as well, I rarely use them at home but they are handy when camping as they help to keep food warm in the colder months. I’m going to suggest to Netherton Foundry they make a lid that is flat or slightly concave so coals can be placed on them.

    • @TheAkashicTraveller
      @TheAkashicTraveller ปีที่แล้ว

      For smaller companies like that importing ends up cheaper than buying from an importer anyway just takes a little longer. Even as expensive as they are I might get one though I would prefer a version with a bail and proper handle on the lid, would be much better for a buscraft setup since you wouldn't need a trivet.

  • @Windwalker66

    Why didn't you step on the Fire Box pan? 🤣

    • @dickinaroundoutdoors8609
      @dickinaroundoutdoors8609  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question-since the Firebox was bowed to the bottom if I stepped on it there would be nothing to keep my weight from simply creating an opposite bow on the inside. With the Fry Bake I was pushing against the flat ground.

  • @apleparulo3958

    Great video! I have both Fry-bake pans and like them a lot. I did notice that I'm getting some chipping on the surface as a result of using my pot grippers, which surprises me. Have you tried the Pathfinder skillet? That one looks interesting, too.

    • @dickinaroundoutdoors8609
      @dickinaroundoutdoors8609  ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it chipping or are you seeing some silver spots? I clean my normally with barkeepers friend and have not had any issues but I definately have with other anodized pans so sure can happen!
      I have not tried the Pathfinder gear at all but have seen their stuff on other folks videos. It looks like theirs is stainless steel which I normally avoid when camping due to cleanup effort and poor heat transfer unless it has an aluminum ply.
      Thanks for checking us out and see if Barkeepers friend powder helps-good luck!

      For sure the Fry-Bake is more expensive, but paying for made in the USA is valuable for some. It is good that there are solid options for everyone, regardless of budget.

  • @dalevodden1359
    @dalevodden1359 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    And it looks like it cleaned up nicely and the only why it's cooking faster is because you turned up the heat and your a fool the actual winner is fire box now witch would you want back packing 🧳 I want the lighter one and that is the fire box and it looks like you don't hike the back country looks like you car glamer camp and you never tried to fix the fire box like you did the other so the fire box wins

    • @dickinaroundoutdoors8609
      @dickinaroundoutdoors8609  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As I said, both of the pans were great and the Banks won because it is a system. I would not decline to carry either one. You are correct that my days of long hiking are behind me (as are a lot of things!) but I am far from a glamper and neither of those distracts from either pan and is irrelevant to the performance of the pans. The reason I didn't step on the Firebox was two-fold 1) Firebox doesn't recommend that and more importantly 2) since the Firebox was concave and curved outward from the pan I would have had to set it on the ground face down. Thus there is no support to keep my weight from simply changing it from concave to convex which would just change the issue, not correct it.
      At the end of the day either pan is a great choice and if you prefer the Firebox I think you will love it.
