  • In this video I trimmed a horse that had another laminitic episode about 8 weeks ago. The vet saw him immediately and applied glue-on shoes for the duration until now where I've come in and trimmed up to be barefoot. Each horse is different and reacts differently when they've had a laminitic episode but this is the approach we have taken for moving forward wit this horse. I hope you enjoy the video.

advice for recording these videos, try turning the horse the other way so the natural lighting can be better on the hooves.

Easier said than done. Most of the barns I work in the owners prefer the horses be tied in a specific way and I try to respect their rules. But I would if I could tho.

I'm curious why some farriers will rasp off (or sand off) rough areas up to the top of the hoof, and all around the sides, whereas, you (and others) will only rasp off what is needed, and a bit of sanding over the rasped areas, but leaving all the "rough" areas alone... What's the thinking behind both?
