From one 3rd year vet student to another: I'm glad to hear you explain the underlying disease process so the general public can understand. I definitely understand and sympathize with feeling burned out with the book learning and exams. It's a tough 3 years of learning for sure. Keep pushing forward and you'll be done with school before you know it.

I spent a couple hours walking the big dogs at the local shelter recently. My dog passed away a year ago and I've been missing her. Even if you can't adopt right now, I never realized how important it is for the animals to have visitors especially the bigger dogs that don't get many people to play with.

Had that experiance showing and training horses.
I took a mare to train for pleasure classes that was off the track!!
Racing and pleasure are OPPOSITE in traing so i had my hands full to say the least!!
I spent the winter working her every day getting her confidence rain sleet what ever the weather was i was on her.
Long story short gave her back to her owner that had a trainer that was afraid to train her.
This trainer took her that summer and ended up 3rd Pleasure Horse in the country.
Proud of that mare even though she she cracked my pelic bone during her training which i wasn't aware of it at the time other than my leg got completely numb after the incident every time i got on a horse for quite some time.
I didn't stop riding because i had another horse in training lol.
Oh well lived through it learning something new every day and lonin it!!

We have been giving large tips to our waitress since Covid-19. Last Christmas one of the waitresses we really like she was financially strapped and we gave her a $100 tip. We have always done things like this like paying for individuals meals when you know they are struggling. Helping our neighbor family across the way with their home while there daughter had long stays at St. Judes in Memphis TN. By the way she is doing wonderful! It’s just the way we were raised. Pay it forward. 💖

My mom just moved into an apartment after several years of homelessness (me as well, but found support a year ago), I went through everything in her storage and brought it to her, removed stuff she didn't want anymore, etc. Helped her move in and continue to support her. Its been a relief now, because we get to have family dinners again and just make better memories now. I'm in Southern Maine, its finally spring! Although the April showers have started a little too early lol.

1st off CONGRATULATIONS on your vet school education and great future for you and your family 👍👍
You are very knowledgeable in your videos,,, confidence will come.
I've been out of the horse business for some time but your videos bring back that excitement ,thank you so much!!!
With this foundered pony your shoeing brings back SO MANY memories.
In the beginning if my Quarter Horse buying i bought a beautiful registered gelding that was foundered and i bought him to show!!
I didn't know about foundered horses BUT i learned real quick!!
This was actually a good lesson to learn for me right off the bat because it made me very aware of this condition and that NEVER happened again.
So keeping shoes on this horse and making this horses feet "look good" showing him weekly was one hard lesson ingrained in my brain forever😉
Thankfully i got a GOOD trimmer LIKE YOU!
He ended up winning Jr Pleasure of the state and reserve Halter Horse of the state.
LOTS of corrective shoeing, lameness, wearing pads, and like you said it was his front feet.
Your videos are FANTASTIC and i watch EVERYONE!!
    BLESS YOU🕊🕊

I have a Hackney pony mare. She's 10. She's close to 14 hands tall and substantial. She was a little overweight, not much. She started having pain in her legs and feet. We couldn't figure it out. She was in a lot of pain. Anyway, long story short, she has Equine Metabolic Syndrome, and has chronic founder in all her feet because of that. But now with a change of diet and corrective shoeing she appears pain - free and happy. We're not going to ride her or breed her but she's busy acting like a protective mom to her brother and our goats. We have a special needs child, one of his problems is autism, she LOVES him and he loves her. She is very sweet. Animals are just incredible, aren't they. You are an amazing person. You're so busy, working hard in school, hands -- on learning, teaching and giving back to others. Bless you.

Montana girl here. I don't like talking about nice things I do, I try to just do little things every day. Bring my co-workers coffee. Always stop when someone is trying to cross the street. I volunteer in food work a lot and am very passionate about feeding ppl and kiddos, but just putting a smile on a stranger's face or getting a thank you wave is enough to keep me active in the community. I've helped ppl at the dump if they have a big load or big items. Taking someone's grocery cart for them. Etc.

My act of kindness: So over covid lockdown I "grew out of" most of my horse show gear (jackets, pants, etc) (just kidding I gained a bit of weight). I am into eventing, and I ride at a barn that teaches lessons to children and young adults who have been through the foster care program. They typically are riding in jeans and sneakers, but riding and having fun none the less. Since my show gear didn't fit me anymore, I gifted it all to a girl who really wanted to start competing and had been taking lessons on a pony names Pumpkin. It's a bit big on her, but she will grow 😄🥰 now she can comfortably and confidently hit the pony club shows.

Awesome channel! My act of service doesn’t have to do with horses per say, I volunteer for a organization through my county’s district attorneys office that works with troubled teens, one of the things they do in the program is community service in exchange for a criminal record, obviously these kids aren’t hardened criminals 😊. One thing they do is volunteer at a local horse farm that helps children with special needs, so the kids from the program muck stalls, sweep up, and general barn work, they all seem to love the experience and in most cases end up going back to the farm on their own to continue volunteering! It’s definitely a win-win for all involved, I personally have been doing this for about seven years. Thanks again for the videos, and best wishes in your fourth year of Vet school.

He also asked that I watch out for his family and that if I can help them out if they needed anything. Well, some months later in talking with his widow in AZ she had been left with quite a large property and storage facilities packed with a lifetime of stuff. I made a plan to head down there to help her out. I worked on the property for 3 months and was happy to help. She was just overwhelmed at the time and now she is in a better position to move forward in her life.

I have a great temp job at my local hospital helping to move people all around the facility that can't do it on their own. When the temp job ends I will be volunteering to do it. Sometimes ppl are so scared about what test or treatment is coming up and often I am able to share from my personal experiences, sometimes it helps them sometimes not, adding a little humor like telling them that they have unlimited mileage on the wheelchair they are using for the day often brings a smile to their face for a moment or kidding them after they have signed all their paper work that the Marin recruiter will be coming by to take them to boot camp gets a good laugh from our veterans. The little things a person can do are all the difference sometimes. Greg leak in Jefferson city mo

Edit: I'm repairing my little cousins wooden toy truck as my act of good. I have been doing repairs and housework for my family this past year. It helps them and it helps me learn.

I've been motivated to do a specific service for someone the past couple days since watching this video. Last night driving home I got anxious a little because an opportunity had not yet come up. I come from a background where we were raised to realize sometimes you gotta just do the best you can do with what you have rather than what you wish you had so I figured right then then best thing I could do was say some prayers for people I did not know personally but had attended the same event I was coming from. I feel praying for people in this day and age may be one of the best services we can do. Hope that qualifies for one of you giveaways! Thank you for your videos - I find then just really relaxing to watch.

My husband and I have been saving and waiting for several years to buy a nice zero turn mower... we finally we're able to pay cash for one this spring! Now we mow and weed eat our elderly neighbors yard, so she doesn't have to pay a company for services. What makes this even sweeter, is my brother in law just started a side buisness for power washing.... we asked him if he would come and pressure wash our small house, then go up the hill to our neighbors and take care of hers also. She has no idea this is going to happen! She's been saying she wanted her home power washed for years, but we can tell she's on a modest budget. Thank the good Lord, we are able to bless my brother in law and pay him for two jobs at the start of his buisness, and Miss Edith doesn't have to worry about her yard the rest of her days and we can have her home professionally cleaned while supporting family. My husband and I started watching your channel during quarantine last year and we love your videos to learn on a deeper level. You do great work! We have two geldings and live in Jonesborough, TN.

So help them out I paid 2 months of their rent and their electric bill and made sure they had food in the fridge because they have two young children I feel lucky that I'm blessed enough to be in a position to be able to help people and that's what it's all about looking after your friends and Neighbors and like Mr.Rogers always used to say "be neighborly" keep up the great content God bless

Glad to hear you're going to school to become a vet, such an awesome profession and I admire you for that! I've always wanted to work with animals. Congrats on your third year, going out in the field is the most exciting part 😊 its not a service but just something I love doing, I've always been the emotional support amongst my family and friends - I've talked a few out of ending their life. I love helping people and animals alike. I care for all our animals including physical/mental stimulation, grooming, nail trimming, dental care, etc and assist the family with theirs too. I love donating to several different animal charities and underwater search/rescue teams. I didn't know you had children that's awesome man! Much love, from Kansas

You've got to take care of your Mom's friends for sure! LOL. But more it was very kind of you. Little...I paid for the coffee of someone in back of me in the drivethrough. Big...helped someone falsely accused of something. All is well in that regard for all concerned. Best to your family and your vet studies.

    Looked great!
Been a farrier for 21 years now. I've had multiple horses and ponies that I've worked on over the years that looked much worse than this one. Always the first and maybe second trim is the biggest change. Then it's usually upkeep and maintenence.
I agree that they'll always have the propensity for foundering again. But if the owner is on top of the diet and their feet are done regularly, the traces of it can almost disappear..... but that's if both feed and regular hoofcare are on the ball consistently.

Sheldon, I think you are already giving enough with all the help and care you give the horses and showing us your trade. The first time I have seen your face and it is very much as I had imagined. I can imagine your college fees are pretty big, so you are very generous with your hand outs. I think we are rewarded well enough with your vlogs.

I had a mare that foundered once. I was young when I had her. Like 6 or 7 so I don't remember very well all that went into it but I remember her standing under the California pepper tree at the far end of the pasture and not moving for like 3 days. We didn't live there where she was being boarded so we didn't know she hadn't been moving. On the 3rd day the family friend that owned the property told my mom that she hadn't moved. At some point after that my mom called the farrier and the next time we went out to see her she had duct tape wrapped all around her hooves I think to keep them dry since it had rained. We ended up boarding her somewhere else for about 2 months because she would have a dry stall to stay in.

Congratulations. Enjoy watching and learning about shod-ding horses - curiosity started while age 9 & 12 while at camps in 1958 and 1961. Act of kindness is double edge sword - being the “Director” of a Bridge Group at Torrey Pines Senior Living whose ages range from 72 to 100 - learned more playing the game which is one edge and they appreciate not being bored by existing. Also, have forwarded an episode to a young lady and her mom who are new horse owners here in North County San Diego.

I am glad to see another video.
Billings Mt. Coming home the other day there was a guy standing with a small gas can at the east bound off ramp from the interstate (#452). I pulled my pick up over got his attention with the help of a semi hauling a set of tankers. This ole boy and his wife were on their way home to Idaho after her dad passed from COVID complications at 80 years old. They were broke, I told him I would fuel them up so they could get closer to home, and if they could, maybe pay it forward in the future. I don't want to enter the give away but it would be nice to see what other people are doing. Lord knows it's good to hear about people lending a hand.

It's been a while since I've been spent much time around horses but just watching this the smell of hoof comes back to me, and the feeling of the horse nibbling on your back and jeans while you try and clean their front hooves :D Good luck with the rest of the semester and onward to 4th year!
