I had the same problem and I opened it and cleaned it with canned air and some tissues (there was a lot of dust inside the fan and the electronics and that was causing overheating and because of the overheating the fans ran like crazy) if you follow a youtube guide you’ll fix it in about 20-30minutes and it’s really easy to do, you only need a torx security T8H screwdriver and canned air to do it but it’s worth it!
@@MonkeyDude1999 so you still opened it up and did it without any additional steps. Mine feels like it’s just running regardless of even I turn it on or not.
Regarding the loud PS4 fan. My sons was the same. I think the worst problem is the dust build-up at the entrance to the heatsink. The fan can't blow air through it, so the temperature rises, and the fan goes faster to try and lower it.
@@Moshiyo Improving how to make them longer and get more from ads? I saw someone do 3 minute video about removing sticker, so it surely shouldn't take 15 minutes to say that alternatively you can pad screws with o-rings. Anyway, this method didn't help me at all so it could be that this is bullshit and just for ads money. Wouldn't be first fake video on YT.
This method definitely helped to reduce alot of that weird UFO buzzing. I opted to use only 1 set of O-rings between the plastic and the fan, and the ones I used were a bit thinner. It worked nonetheless, and while the sound is still there it's almost completely unnoticable compared to before. So the main takeaway for me is that you have a bit of leeway when it comes to O-ring size. As long as it fits you should be good.
Thank you! 😁 Even two years after you made this video, it still helps people.. i noticed the sound when playing cod, then closing the game down, and the noise was gone, until i launched the game again. So there was no question of it being the fan or harddisk. I am so happy it was the fan though 😆 so again, thank you!

Hey, just wanna drop by and say it works! I had to do it two times, first time my o rings were a little bit off and it made no difference. So, if it stills sounds whiny, try moving them a little bit instead of giving up!
@@fredstead5652 Hi there. By that I meant that the o rings were a little bit too flush with the body of the console. By moving them at a bit of an angle, I was able to reduce the noise. I must say, while this did reduce the noise greatly, I was never able to fix it. In the end I bought a replacement NMB fan and it's been smooth sailing ever since

By far the most helpful video I've came across about the ps5 lol my ps5 is definitely as quiet as a graveyard compared to the jet engine of the ps4 I have 😂
I have had no issues with fan noise, but this is a great well done instructions for people that do. I would also check to see if a screw was just not tight enough before buying O-rings.
This worked out perfect for me. Only thing I kinda “messed up” on was on putting back the plastic vents that go along the side after you put the fan back together. I had it misaligned and the tab was not on correctly on one side so I was trying to force the white PS5 outer panel on while it was on wrong. Just FYI for anybody doing this. Take your time and make sure you put everything on the right way. Slide the plastic vent on correctly with the tabs inside the slots on both ends. Also clean around with some compressed air while its open just to get any dust build-up out. Thanks for the video! Cheers!
Don't tighten the screws too much, the O-rings are supposed to damp vibrations by alowing the construction to move a tiny bit, if you tighten them too much they won't be able to compensate the vibration anymore. Also be aware that there are different kinds of o-rings (also there are D shaped rings, these would fit better!). Some of these will dry out over time and become brittle, this could a) bring back the noise and b) parts of the O-ring can fall into the console and the fan and cause damage! I'd recommend getting D-rings (they have flat surfaces) made of silicone which is very durable under various conditions. Also it's best to put 1 ring under the fan plate (like he did) but then put the 2nd on top and use wide flat head screw so that the whole fan module can swing free without the screw making contact to it at all, otherwise the screw will still transfer the virbation to the body.
Whatever you're thinking of, it's not D-rings. No D-rings with flat surfaces show up in search results and they're all made of steel. Searching for silicone D-rings just yields silicone-coated steel D-rings. I think what you meant was flat washers.

I got the Xbox Series X and it's completely silent. I can't hear it unless I'm in a silent room and standing next to it. Coming from a jet engine PS4, I love it
@Arthur Emek Morgan That's unfortunate, I wish it weren't the case, sorry man. Have you tried this fix? It might help depending on the issue with your console. Thanks for letting us know how Sony's dealing with this - and thanks for watching! If you can, please consider subscribing!
I decided to add o-rings to the fan in my PS5 and it definitely helped with the noise by quite a bit. The fan in my PS5 is one of the Nidec fans so it makes a different type of noise than the one demonstrated in this video and to get the noise level down the o-rings need to be arranged differently for the best results. The noise that the Nidec fan makes is more of a pulsing/chirping noise. What worked best for me was placing two of the o-rings around the black pegs instead of over the screw holes that are right next to the pegs. The other two o-rings went over the screw holes of the two remaining screws. This next part is important, when tightening the screws try not to tighten them too much or the fan noise will become more audible. I recommend turning on the system while you adjust the tightness of the screws so you can find the "sweet spot" in terms of noise levels and the screws not being too loose. One mistake I made was tightening the shorter screw too much. Doing this stripped the thread so it made that screw useless and now I have a missing screw on the fan covered with electrical tape. Fortunately the fan is still secured well enough and the fan noise is as low as it can be at this point so I didn't do any real damage but the lesson is to not overtighten any screw. The o-rings I got were the #60 size from my local Lowes. I've also heard that #61 o-rings are the ones to get but the #60s I got worked, too.
It is quite obvious that already by adding 1 layer of o-rings you won't be able to screw it in as deep as before. Specially on the 2 thread cutting screws as there you will risk breaking the thread if you do try. That will be less of a problem on the bottom screws. Nice and easy fix indeed.

There are 3 types of turbines used in the PS5 - your turbine belongs to the quiet ones and can be additionally damped. In the case of NAIDEC turbines, it is impossible to get rid of the rattling sound. The only option is to replace the turbine.
This worked for me, I had a whirring fan like the common ufo noise and could hear while gaming, I only used 4 of the 0-rings so the metal casing of the fan was literally just off the plastic casing and not flush, the important thing is to not overtighten the screws! Kept the shroud as it was for cooling purposes, now completely silent using in the horizontal position, also placing a mousemat underneath the stand has now made the disc drive very quiet, great video, thanks for the tip, fan is completely silent now 👍🏻

The fact that Sony has made the console so you can you can access the fan so easy make me wonder if they expect you to carry out these fixes. It’s all good tho knowing you can do stuff like this so easy.
You can use mechanical keyboard silencer o-rings. They come in the right sizes, different thickness and ehhh firmness as well and they come at like 100+ for a few bucks total.
In the start of the video it’s pretty clear that the issue is coming from the disc drive spinning up. It also sounds like there’s some coil whine and that originates from the PSU - not the fan.
Thanks for the tip, really worked! I had a resonating sound that got a bit louder (did not change frequency) when the fan went faster en this fix reduced it by a lot. Now its not annoying at all anymore.

Thanks for the pointers. I did this and it helped a little bit, but the fan is still rather noisy. It is what it is. I helped diminish the decibels a tiny tad but at least I won't be hearing it as much through my headphones. That's how loud my fan (combined with coil whine from the PSU) was.
@@Moshiyo I haven't secured a PS5 yet (hopefully in 10 days) but this is exactly the way I planed to fix it if it makes the sound. So I came up with a plan that is pretty much your solution too. You got a like and I'll share your video in discussions I come across ;)

@@Moshiyo honestly im not too sure the interface and games just started lagging and then it crashed so i did a restart after then it went back to silent
You're joking right... 0:30 you can here the disc motor start to spin the disc, it's your disc drive making that noise which is completely normal. Its genuinely infuriating when people read stuff online and assume thier issue is that. These systems are extremely complex, there's multiple sources of sound from them, including the capacitors in the power supply. To everyone, don't go dismantling your PS5 unless you know exactly what you are doing, this guy literally did it despite there being no fault.
Thanks man, it worked for me. (Nidec fan) I only used 4 small o rings for the fan, not the metal cover. It's much more silent now but I'll be testing if it works in the long run. The noise wasn't loud, it was the high pitch that was driving me crazy. With this fix it's mostly gone for now.
Dude submit this to Sony tech support. This needs to be standard for any future builds. I would say everyone on here do the same. Batter them to make it obvious that it's a problem.

The noise you heard at the beginning of the video was clearly the disc drive spinning up. Not that the fan isn't making noise as well, and this adjustment would indeed fix that, but at least isolate which one you're talking about.
The first sound we heard could have been the disk drive yes, but after that where I zoom in and say 'yep' and 'y tho' I did not have the disk in the console!
Great Info, thanks. I wonder, what I'll do instead of "round" gaskets, I'll use the "flat" white silicon/nylon disc. They should be "thinner" as compared to the "rubber" ones. While also providing dampening as they're MORE elastic than metal on metal... but NOT as elastic as the rubber. I'll let you know if it works or I BRICK my PS5.
Followed your guide. Aswell put some o rings between the fan and the panels on both sides to put more pressure on the fan/panels. My noise seems to have reduced by ~80%. Cant hear it when the sound is on. Only when i am holding my ear fairly close to the ps5.

@@vyredrac7710 I would say it's very bad. I can put the PS5 on the other side of my room in an awkward position in order for me to not hear it enough to still enjoy the console. However, having to do that is not acceptable in my opinion for such a product. Every PS5, no matter where you buy it from, has a 1 year warranty from Sony and I am going through them to see what I can do. I called them a few days ago and I explained the problem as clearly as possible. They basically asked all the generic stuff that they have to ask like "have you updated the software to the latest version", "is it in an open space where the fan can get air" etc. Then they took my email and sent me an email with an incident reference number and a list of things to try - just more generic stuff like entering safe mode and restoring the default settings and whatnot. I was told to contact them again if those things didn't solve the issue (which obviously they didn't) so I will call them again within the next few days. I'm assuming that the next time I call, we will organise sending in the console to Sony for them to either repair it or replace it with a new unit. I've read some posts on Reddit from other people who have done the same thing due to the coil whine issue, and it seems that Sony sends packaging for you to put the console in, then you send it to them and wait a few weeks for them send you back the repaired console or a new one.

The humming noise I’m getting is coming from the lower back area where the ports are. The fan is quiet...idk what’s making the noise down in back 😡😡😭😭😭
Just tested a brand new PS5 and it has a buzzing but only for about the first 20 seconds or so while the PS5 starts, and then when launching a game. There’s no sticker that’s come undone to get in the fan spokes like some PS5’s. I temporarily stopped the fan from spinning when turning the PS5 on and waited about 30 seconds max to see if I’d hear any buzzing. I didn’t but the fan almost seems lopsided by the wobbly whirring sound it makes. So it’s not the fan. I noticed when launching Astro’s Playroom, that’s when the buzzing would start. After moving my ear around very close to the console, I finally found where the buzzing was the loudest. It’s loudest right around the HDMI port so it’s the PSU. I determined it 100% by keeping my ear there and backing out to the home screen from the game and instantly the buzzing stops. All I heard was the wobbly, whirring fan and then I completely quit the game and the fan slowed back down and got quieter but I still heard no buzzing. The buzzing only happened when I launched the game and stayed until I backed out of it. I did this test multiple times while having my ear along different areas covering the midsection glossy piece of the PS5. Each time the result was the same. I initially thought it was the fan because putting my ear there, you could hear a faint buzzing. But it’s louder the closer you put your ear to where the PSU is. So as I stated, the PSU is the source of the buzzing.
If you can't find O- rings they also sell a packing gasket material where you find the O-rings that you can cut to length. I believe gasket material would work better as it will not raise height if fan.

I have same ufo sound, pls help??
Thank you! 😁 Even two years after you made this video, it still helps people.. i noticed the sound when playing cod, then closing the game down, and the noise was gone, until i launched the game again. So there was no question of it being the fan or harddisk. I am so happy it was the fan though 😆 so again, thank you!

Did the buzzing noise go away too?
Can you elaborate, on a little bit off?
@@fredstead5652 Hi there. By that I meant that the o rings were a little bit too flush with the body of the console. By moving them at a bit of an angle, I was able to reduce the noise. I must say, while this did reduce the noise greatly, I was never able to fix it. In the end I bought a replacement NMB fan and it's been smooth sailing ever since
@@emyquaranta I'm in a weird spot. I've got an NMB fan, and it's making a buzzing noise. I think I'm just going to buy a replacement like you.

Bruh Just find a Girlfriend you are Overthinking JEEZ
These are great ideas Ricky thank you!
@@lightsshades9778 He's right though, the PS5 does get very warm and the rings will dry up.
Whatever you're thinking of, it's not D-rings. No D-rings with flat surfaces show up in search results and they're all made of steel. Searching for silicone D-rings just yields silicone-coated steel D-rings. I think what you meant was flat washers.
I paid all this money for this console, I shouldn’t have to go through all this!

Just get a Xbox
Nice DIY. Might do this later. The noise isn’t bothering me atm.
I just bought the 1200 series newer model and the noise is low enough that i can only hear it when theres no sound in game.
It is quite obvious that already by adding 1 layer of o-rings you won't be able to screw it in as deep as before. Specially on the 2 thread cutting screws as there you will risk breaking the thread if you do try. That will be less of a problem on the bottom screws. Nice and easy fix indeed.
Absolutely - I say these obvious things for the folks who aren't used to doing mechanical or technical type work or projects, as you and I might be. Thanks for pointing it out - and thanks for watching! If you can, please consider subscribing!

Is it still quit? Cus im worried that it’ll start overheating and making loud fan noises like my old ps4
Still very quiet! 😁
There are 3 types of turbines used in the PS5 - your turbine belongs to the quiet ones and can be additionally damped. In the case of NAIDEC turbines, it is impossible to get rid of the rattling sound. The only option is to replace the turbine.
False. I have the nidec one and i just put small rubbers ( rubbers from a aio cooler for a cpu ) and the ps5 makes no sound at all now.

I put orings on all the screws and the plastic nobs, but not on the outer casing, and i kinda hoped putting additional ones on the outer fan casing would maybe help. In the start of the video it’s pretty clear that the issue is coming from the disc drive spinning up. It also sounds like there’s some coil whine and that originates from the PSU - not the fan.

Thanks for the pointers. I did this and it helped a little bit, but the fan is still rather noisy. It is what it is. I helped diminish the decibels a tiny tad but at least I won't be hearing it as much through my headphones. That's how loud my fan (combined with coil whine from the PSU) was.

Should I be worried about it

Great Info, thanks. I wonder, what I'll do instead of "round" gaskets, I'll use the "flat" white silicon/nylon disc. They should be "thinner" as compared to the "rubber" ones. While also providing dampening as they're MORE elastic than metal on metal... but NOT as elastic as the rubber. I'll let you know if it works or I BRICK my PS5.

@@Moshiyo Hey, didn't seem to make much of any difference with my unit unfortunately. Will probably be sending mine to Sony. Was worth a try though :D
@@retro-meister How bad is your buzzing. Also how do you send it back and do you get a new one?

Hi there, great video you mentioned 6mm OD. What does the internal diameter hole for the fastener need to be. Thanks.
Hey thanks for the kind words! I mention in the video also there's a link in the description to get them off Amazon, the ones I used were 3mm ID - Honestly though even if they're tight around the screw it will likely be fine, I would just not want anything too big so the fan stays straight and level! @@Moshiyo hi there does it work even with all other noise like Bzzz noise or if you type in my ps5 sounds bad just listen on TH-cam there is a video from the Tech Giant there the sound is exactly the same like mine
Brilliant works....thanks for sharing bro....😊

@@Moshiyo scared to take my console apart tho haha yeah sure
@@RyanRyann28 That's awesome man thank you! I don't blame you, but it's really not too difficult if you follow the steps in this video
Day 2 with the o-ring mod. I've just learned to accept this. It's kind of sad that my PS4 is quieter than my PS5 but it is what it is. Thanks to your vid, my PS5 no longer sounds like a washing machine doing laundry. It sounds like a 'quieter' washing machine now :-P
What's the point of Lying In The Commons if the PS5 is louder than PS4 you need to send it back to Sony
@@jasondavies6220 I already got it back from Sony. They fixed the coil whine (which definitely came from the PSU). But the fan is still loud. Louder than my PS4.
Thanks. Now i obly hear the blades a little bit and the coil whine
Glad it worked for you! At least we're making ours better than they originally came from Sony. Thanks for your comment, and for watching! If you can, please consider subscribing to see the future PS5 videos, and more!
Great video 📹👍🏽

@@Moshiyo It's the truth and now you have a new sub 👍
Thank you so much 😁
in my case, putting the the o-rings on and loosening the screw reduces the noise more than torquing the screws tight
That's great! Obviously as long as it's not rattling or anything, that's a win! Thanks for watching, if you can please consider subscribing!
So access to the fan itself does not avoid the warranty?
Big win!! Brilliant pro tips 💪🏼 can't wait for the next one woooo 😎🎮💜😎
Thank you lady!
That Nintendo pillow is sooooo dooooope! I need that! Where’d you get it ! ? And thanks for the help no problems yet with my PS5 but I’ve been watching a ton of videos like yours just in case something does come up ... 👍🏾👍🏾
Bruh no lie it’s a ps5 under my moms bed,I’m so exited!!!
Lololololol
I tried this but unfortunately the buzzing sound is still there. Will explore if the faceplates or base stand is loose but i’m kinda disappointed that there’s still this noise tbh.
The humming noise I’m getting is coming from the lower back area where the ports are. The fan is quiet...idk what’s making the noise down in back 😡😡😭😭😭
Power Supply Unit. No fix for that.
Does it fix the high-pitched noise situation?
somebody hire this man!!!
Yo which company's claiming this man's?
If you can't find O- rings they also sell a packing gasket material where you find the O-rings that you can cut to length. I believe gasket material would work better as it will not raise height if fan.
