They lie about paying you 18 bucks per appointments you'll only get paid if you sell at least one item, i mean i wasn't even paid because i didnt meet the requirements i made 5 appointments and was not paid because i didnt sell, he was right about the interview, they say that they pick out the best few out of everyone but that's a complete lie theyll hire literally anyone just to make money just to have their products sold, do not work at this place theyre only here to scam you of your time and scam you in general

    I stay away from any "job" that has any of these four:
    -group interview with a presentation
    -advertises big, but not specific, earnings ($100-500 a day)
    -says you'll work for the company as an INDIVIDUAL CONTRACTOR.
    -entry-level marketing... because it'll just end up being door-to-door sales

    • @wyliehowey6240
      @wyliehowey6240 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Yah the group interview thing was weird forsure. This guy definitely didnt have the same experience as me and im not sure if i would have stuck with the job if that would have been what I had to go through beforehand (Although i was pretty desperate for work at the time so its definitely possible) but the big earnings are true if you’re a hard worker because you arent paid for your time, you’re paid what you’re worth. Also, its not door to door. Its through personal referrals, so you only show the knives to people you’ve been personally recommended to. It’s a real shame some bad experiences have pushed so many people away from a job with so much potential into jobs where they are probably counting the minutes until they make another $10

      You are never too young or too old to be scammed, what's "entitled millennial" about that? I'm way too old to be a millennial, but this is still good advice. There are legit jobs as independent contractors, but there are many scams that abuse contractor status. Door-to-door sales are also fine, but they should be honest about that in the ad, not 3 days into a recruitment process.

    • @seth7131
      @seth7131 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I had a similar experience I would run away. Thankfully I'm in the best office in Canada and I was told the job during the initial interview. They said it was a "group interview" but there was nothing groupy about it. I was in a room and filled out an application (I never applied, just got a job offer) watched a video that told the job in detail then I was interviewed 1 on 1 with the manager, we may have 20 people watching the video but they're always interviewed 1 on 1. You are simply paid for how hard you try, there is no way to gauge how much you'll get, I started and made 500 so far, someone else I was in training with has made 2500 simply because I have another job and cutco Is my part time. No door to door sales, they advise against that and you would probably be fired if they found out you were doing that. You are an individual contractor but I've never had anything wrong with that and its not my first time being an individual contractor. It is entry level because it's such a relaxed job and it's not like you're selling machinery to PCL or something. also, let me tell you that if you can sell knives, you can sell anything. I've also learned many great skills that have helped me improve my life quite drastically. Its not a job for everyone but if you're interested i say give it a shot with an open mind. Not any office is run equal because each office is run pretty well independently. The managers, if they opened that office, they invested their own money into it (in Canada anyways) so my experience wasn't bad at all and nothing in the video is all that relatable. That doesn't mean that the vid is a pile of crap, its just wrong to say that all offices will be the same. All depends on where you live

There was no specifications on what the company was, did, or sell so again I was really sketched out. I was very stupid to have accepted the job. So I had recieved the letter, saying that I had beem chosen to join their marketing team. I was promised the 17 dollar payment for each appointment done, along with an extra ten percent in commission. Also along with the training program, it was something very uneasy. The instructors were pretty young, one of them one year older than me (I'm 17). After completing my training, I pretty much went on for three weeks. Working about ten appointments each week. I was working my butt off, also having to attend 2 hour meetings every week. Along with 6 to even 8 hour meeting sessions time to time with our division. After the three weeks, I sold about 2,600 dollars worth in product. However in return with the three week payment, I only recieved 395. However with just the base pay they promised I should of recieved 510 plus the commission. I just quit yesterday. They choose High School students and High School graduates in particular because they're easier to manipulate. I hope this video gets more recognition.

So yeah, he has no idea what he’s talking about. All the problems he talks about are addressed in the training. You CAN sell even if you don’t know rich people. I did it today. As a current Vector sales rep, I wouldn't say the whole company and position is a scam, necessarily, but they definitely gloss over a lot of the undesirable aspects of the work. I thought this was just the my managers that were doing this but after some research, I can tell it's definitely the method of choice for recruiting. The pay is confusing and they don't really explain it the way it really is, unless you ask or express concern. Also, they "require" you to attend meetings and trainings that are unpaid and requiring this is illegal so if you're considering this job, keep that in mind. It is really not a primary source of income type of job; it's really more of a side hustle and I strongly recommend treating it as such. Don't quit your job to do this, don't go to in-person meetings/training/conferences unless you really want to or live close to location. Don't take any BS (excuse the profanity) from the managers or leaders. As a sales rep, you are a private contractor and you are entitled to freedom and being able to make calls, do demos, and attend meetings if and when you want. Another thing to keep in the back of your mind when working with the company, is that all of the managers are salaried employees and you are not. I am not discouraging working here but do go into it with a clear idea of what it is.

      This just happened to me. My old head uncle in law wants me to get a job and I tried explaining that it's hard to find jobs nowadays and that they don't just hand them out. He then handed me an old VectorApply letter directed to my cousin and told me to try that. Welp now I know not to try it

    I went in for an interview and everything said in this video sounds very accurate. It doesn't matter if they sell a product of good quality at all. They get people to sign up using lies and deception which absolutely makes it a scam. No one would ever go in for an interview if they knew what the job was or if they took 2 minutes to google search vector marketing. Everyone watching this or any other video on the subject BEFORE their interview is saving themselves a lot of time.

    This happened to me....except my interview was virtual and like you said, the interview was more of an infomercial of the whole company....The interview finally came and the first question was “how enthusiastic are you?” The whole group interview didn’t make sense at all...I didn’t talk to a real person until the very end.

    I worked with them for a summer back in like 2003. they gave me knives which I could use for demos...and the knives are still great 18 years after. lol. I dont think it's a scam. it's just a shady way to recruit employees to sell a quality product. the prices made it super difficult to sell anything. considering the job was commission based, if you didnt have a wealthy network to demo the knives to, you likely werent making sales an as a result you likely arent getting paid. I sold a couple sets and I made like 1k. but for 1 month worth of work...1000 bucks wasnt worth it obviously. I know some people that made a killing that summer, but most quit shortly after not making anything. I dont think vector was a scam...it was a just an aggressive strategy to create an army or peer to peer sellers of their product. which in essence was their way of marketing cutco.

      It certainly isn't a scam if used as a side gig. If they sold the position as a side gig they probably wouldn't get as bad of a rap. If you're gonna do something like this you have to be able to essentially set up your own marketing firm and advertise the product in a wealthy area near where you live so people contact you 1) so you know who you're talking to is somewhat interested and 2) so you don't have to bug your family and 3) you know they can likely afford it

    Just got hired. Thank you for the video. Just sent the guy a message saying no thank you.
    Edit: for me it was really different. The website for applications were written on all the boards of my school. I filled out my application and I got a call. The interview got scheduled and I got a confirmation email with how long it would take and that I should get their early. I went to the interview and there were a couple of people there. We were told to fill out a form and then we were called in in pairs...some people left the room and other were put in a secret room in the back. I was chosen. In there I sat with 1 other girl and 3 guys. We talked for a while until the interviewer there. He talked about EVERYTHING. Their pay, the market, training, and what not. He show us the same demonstration: penny, rope, leather. We had to do the same sheet. Then we got called in individually...I was called last. I got hired because I was "I bright and well spoken young lady". I am sitting here, outside their, "office building", watching this video. THANK YOU

    I am actually working for Vector right now (my first day of training was today and tomorrow is my second) and I also got hired right after the interview and got my training right after too. I didn’t even know training was supposed to be paid, so now I’m stuck in this job, not knowing what to do and how to get out of it. My mother was the one who made me get this “job” in the first place, and now is over stressing me by telling me to get another one as well (I’m not sure if she meant at the same time as this one or after I’m done with Vector), but I can tell you is that I regret not trusting my gut feeling and should have researched this company before hand. They sounded very shady during the interview when they were explaining how their “company” works and what the product is. Damn, and I just graduated high school too, I’m so over stressed right now, I just had a mental breakdown, and I don’t even know what to do anymore. (And I just got an ad for Vector Marketing)

    I was recommended to this job by someone who already works at Vector. I barely have 3 months and there has been nothing sus about the job. There is an actual building. My interview was online but they weren’t this extra about it. They asked me questions to see if I would be a good fit. Since I got hired I’ve gained great experience and have been learning so much. I did training 2 days after being hired. They teach you how to build your network. You learn communication skills, time management skills..etc. I don’t know if it’s different for every location or what.

      Laura Richardson I didn’t go to the interview... I was very nervous thinking that it’s a scam company after I did some digging. Like, the Vector Marketing office was in a run down hotel-turned office room next to a Jack in the Box and the appearance itself was skeptical. After I didn’t show up at my scheduled interview, they brushed it aside and gave me a new time(the next day) and I missed that too so they gave me one last chance another date.. I never responded to them at all during those times and after but it was obvious they were desperate, I should’ve known they were desperate because on my birthday when I turned 18 they offered me the interview.. and since they were pretty desperate, something had to have been fishy so I trusted my gut and didn’t go. Another reason I didn’t go was because you have to go to people you know personally and try to sell them overpriced products.. I don’t want to be that one friend who does that, I wouldn’t mind on random people but I don’t want to scam my family or friends. I’d keep looking for a different job if I were you m8 :/

    Hint: If you, like me, have been getting slightly sketchy letters from loan companies and job offers, check the postage. If it's first class, more likely not a scam. If it's Standard, presorted, etc. then it's probably a scam and you should toss is asap.
