Hey everyone I’m the dm who ran this adventure. I was just as baffled by John’s behavior as everyone else. But I’m also proud of what happened because it was the very first time I ever made the players cry when I made an npc die. The child’s name was Micah. And I had only introduced him to the party about an hour or so prior to the start of this fight before killing him. But in that hour somehow they got attached. I still don’t know how I did it.

Now I really want to know why the barbarian fled, as I have next to no idea why he'd do that.
Closest thing I've ever come to this, in-game, was a guest player's barbarian (2 levels under the adventure's recommended level) who always hesitated on when he "should" rage. As group cleric, I finally told him either to find a way to reduce incoming damage (raging), or I was done healing him. I wasn't wasting all my spells on him when I had 3 other party members to take care of. But what did I expect when he talked more about his prized "cheh-wee-it", as he called it, rather than his prowess in battle?

My favourite backstory for any character I ever had just so happens to be a dwarf that I originally named Spike (yes, after the hot guy from Buffy), but we ended up calling her Spoik 'cuz it's funny. She was a "proper dwarven lady" and loved to read books in her spare time. Her favourite ones were books about Vikings & when a bookshelf one day collapsed on her, her memories became a weeeee bit scrambled and she believed she's a mighty Viking warrior. It also resulted in her not being the sharpest knife in Caesar & the party had a lot of funny moments when she would come to some hilarious conclusion. My tendency to roll a dice to determine if she would correctly understand some unimportant details didn't help... or it was helpful form the perspective of more hilarious moments? Anyways, during the story, she got a part time job cutting wood in exchange for getting some throwing axes & she liked it so much she ended up retiring from adventuring to pursue a career as a master wood chopper.
In a game sessions hella long later our party decided to hold an event for all adventurers & would have multiple competitions & DM told us Spoik also competed. One of the competitions was answering a bunch of trivia questions and of course we had to know what her answers were. I don't remember them very well but I know they were hilarious & 100% in character.

I made a dwarf barbarian based off a Trollslayer, Thakhit Barrelsunder. He served as general under a tyrannical mad young king who took his xenophobia of the other races too far. After years of blood shed when Thakhit realized all he had done in the name of blind tradition and he and some of his more loyal warriors turned on the king and the nobles who had spurred on the wars. After a short but bloody battle it was Thakhits axe stroke that killed the tyrant king as his men drove the corrupt nobles from the halls. When the dust settled and a new King had been crowned and the hold had returned to some sense of normality Thakhit, unable to bare both the shame of his slaughter of innocents before and his act of kin slaying shaved his head into a crest and spiked it high with troll fats as the ork warriors he use to do battle with did. He took a shame mark as a tattoo that covered his chest, back, face and exposed scalp. He swore a solemn oath at the shrine of Muradin that he would seek to help people with his axe, and that he would fight tyranny and evil anywhere he found it or die gloriously doing so to atone for his many sins. He then bid his wife and beardling daughter good bye, and as he walked from the hold his warriors trappings were stripped from his body and the soldiers that had served under him all slowly turned their backs as each piece of armor and clothing were cut off him. At the end he stood clad in nothing but boots, a pair of simple pants and gripping a serviceable if old axe at the gates of the hold his back turned to them as they shut to him forever. In the eyes of his people he was already dead. Since then Thakhit has wandered far from his hold, through woods and cities seeking to find absolution for his past transgressions. He is currently in a group of mostly half elves and "humans", much to his chagrin, which he has become rather protective of. In particular he has taken a liking to a young "human" (shes a dampire), noble who has a rather a child like character that reminds him of the daughter he left behind.

Artificers are very common, they're called engineers in dwarf society though. And bard are there, it's just that being a bard is usually a very secondary thing. They are warriors FIRST then bards. And they mainly sing of history and victory.
      Look up "Bardin sings"
Bardin is a ranger, but he loves to sing, and his whole party finds it annoying.

The Dwarves in my game wear jewlery in their braids. (perspective of every other race)
The Dwarves in my game wear their names on their right side, as well as their occupation (Warrior, Smith, Jewler, Tailor, etc etc) the material and gems in these represent their ranks, copper or tin without gems to denote a fresh apprentice, up to platinum with gems encrusted to denote masters of their crafts.
On their left braids, they wear their clan names, and below the clan names, their family names.
Where most races in my games consider Dwarves to be 'rude' and 'direct,' it's because in dwarven society you know someone's name, clan, station and occupation at a glance from across the room. As such, dwarves in gatherings approach others without introducing themselves, but immediately go into discussing business or politics; time is money. Raised in a dwarven society, it primarily slips their mind to open conversations with pleasantries and introductions as humans or elves typically do.
Dwarves who are not identified by these sorts of finery are simply referred to as 'Outcast' or 'Casteless,' and usually treated like any other outsider.
I've had a couple players really dislike dwarves in my games because of this kind of personality; but I've had a few players become genuinely curious about the dwarven cultures; and a couple have even made dwarves specifically to explore it from the inside. That feels nice!

In my world, the more time a Firbolg spends with nature, the more "beast like" they become (Cow person interpretation). The longer they stay in cities and civilisation, the more human like they become (Traditional interpretation.)

Any game with fantasy elements and worldbuilding I think to myself "This game would be 10x better if it had generic fantasy dwarves." but too many franchises are trying to fix what isn't broken with their own proprietary hardy/stout races which inevitably fall inferior to dwarves by far.🤷‍♂

It's a decent story and I feel bad for the boy, but the heavy bias towards dwarves and discredit to elves rubs me the wrong way.
It's great that his character overcame his own distaste for other races. The dwarves definitely have several enemies and are overly proud, fanatical even.

Not gonna lie, the title fits horribly with the rest of the story. It sounds like an argumentative essay but the video is just a bunch of lore and then a grudge occurring. Kinda clickbaity. I'd suggest something like "The Honor of a Dwarf" because it sounds cooler, less supremacistic, and fits with the story more.
