      The most impressive thing is, that you talk a lot but some of your Facts are your imagination without knowing realy. That's pretty sad. You may be right that some insurance companies will try to charge you after they paid for the damage you made, but as it is a Public toll road, they just can't! At least concernig the german HAFTPFLICHT.
      If you're getting towed, you decide where to you're car is getting towed to and not the towing company!

  • @kthanxlol
    @kthanxlol ปีที่แล้ว +22

    Listened intently and I’m glad you highlighted the often missed point for us brits wanting to drive a tourist day on the Nurburgring; Yes, you might accept you are not insured on the Ring and be happy to cover the costs of barriers, recovery, fixing your own car etc if you have an accident, but you must also consider the possibility of the third party costs.
    Have a small incident and it’s probably manageable for some, but have a big one and cause a few cars to crash, it’s likely to cost you for a long while. Drop some coolant and cause a few unfortunate bikers to come off, well, it’s not even worth thinking about. Your insurance will pay out, but they’ll then likely come after you for that money.
    Yes, it is possible for us brits (on the odd occasion) to get cover on the Ring for yourself but it won’t cover the third party. At all. If you’re happy to take that risk, then crack on, but good luck. It’s why a lot of us that have been going for a while stick to trackdays and spend the tourist sessions watching from the sidelines.
    Appreciate I likely sound like my Dad and it’s all incredibly depressing, but if it saves someone from potentially ruining the rest of their lives then so be it. Carry on 😂

    • @kthanxlol
      @kthanxlol ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @MotorHeartAT try that and let me know how it goes 😂 As a uk registered car, your insurance will come after you - after they’ve had to sort the mess out.

    • @kthanxlol
      @kthanxlol ปีที่แล้ว

      @MotorHeartAT incorrect I’m afraid, that’s not how it works. The UK insurers are required by law to act. The line on your policy saying the Nurburgring isn’t covered is their get out of jail card against you, nothing else. They will, and are required to, settle all claims. Then they’ll come after you for that money back. There are plenty of examples out there of this happening.

    • @mfpmf
      @mfpmf ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @MotorHeartAT I think you have heard the term lawsuit. Leaving the EU is not some magic blanket that will hide you from authorities.

      accept

    • @mdo
      @mdo ปีที่แล้ว

      That line of "they need to settle all claims" is not correct. Driving outside the conditions of your insurance is like driving with no insurance. The insurance company will not settle the claim, and thrid parties will have to open a civil lawsuit against you to get their money. Just as if you got in an accident with someone with personal insurance but doing Uber or food delivery (basically uninsured as they need business insurance)

    Well worth filming this until midnight, an insight you couldn’t condense into a 10 min TH-cam video

  • @stoneeh
    @stoneeh ปีที่แล้ว +1

    35:31 just one example. I've only driven 1 lap so far. In this lap, the slower cars always moved over to the right well in advance. And I also still kept my eyes in the rear and side mirrors regularly, and the one time a faster car approached I also noticed it well in advance and immediatley moved off the "racing line", slowed down, and moved over as far as possible to the right as I could.
    So, even Ring newbies can handle overtaking and being overtaken without issue. If there's an issue, it's just blatant neglect by one or more parties.
    Edit: and as one of the interviewers mentioned, and is important to mention, because it can and will happen, indeed, looking too much in the mirrors can lead to distraction from your own driving (line). Always make sure to keep your eyes on the road first, then when and if possible also look in the mirrors as much as possible.

    Watched the video a hundred times frame by frame. Was already going "straight" at 1:32 + couple of milliseconds when first ABS flash occurred and you released the brake pedal. Then you turn in and second flash. I would bet the left rear was locked or both rears were locked -- you were rotating a little, but if the rears are locked or near locked you won't turn. Check for flat spotting? You don't hit full breaks again until you're on the grass just before impact. If not that, the rear diff may have locked or the LSD failed/locked?
    As usual, great podcast (and great driving).

I was at SPA trackday in Apr , zero RS cars, you don’t mention RS at the ring. Does it mean RSs are not considered as track performance anymore? (I always assumed they are).

    I want to see proof of these statistic on lower crashes on the ‘public roads’ than on the Ring while it’s in tollroad touristenfahrt mode. I have been going to the Ring since 1999, and have never experienced there not being a crash while visiting. This doesn’t make sense to me tbh.

    btw, Misha mentioned the right wing party specifically. Are they the ones in Germany actively trying to close down the Nordschleife? Or is Misha just naming them in general because if there would a a political party actively wanting to close it down it would probably be a right wing party?
    Reason I'm asking is because it got me thinking as to why a right wing party specifically would even want to close it down and after some thinking I think a case could be made for both left and right wing party's wanting to close it down for their own reasons.

    TF is insane!
    I had an accident there spinning out my GT3 on the crest at Schwalbenschwanz putting it in the barrier with Cup2s on a rainy afternoon. Disgusting feeling. Then having to leave the car behind for repairs and pick it up the next year (due to winter), taking the plane home feeling like the biggest idiot on earth. Before the accident I had done an instructor lap after which I felt horrified of the conditions and danger. Parked my car saying it was done and over. Went out for the 3 remaining laps on our NBR card with my friend in a rental M3. Then went for a taxi lap being taught the wet line seeing it was possible to get a lot of grip there and decided to roll through one lap at slow speed just not to go home feeling terrified. After catching 2 slides, spirits were high and had 2 corners left to go when the right rear tyre instantly lost traction with maybe 20% throttle applied going over the small crest while slightly still being in a left hand curve before the 2 last right handers and the car spun. If I’d let it spin round, I’d probably done a 360 on the tarmac, but I caught it and put my left front tyre on the grass hitting first left front, then left rear corner into the barriers. Suspension was toast and “parked” it onto it’s belly on the curb. Marshalls came and measured 20meters of paint on the railing, yanked a few posts into place and stomped the earth around them. Rail bill ran to 2500€’s, tow bill to Lentz/ADAC in Adenau a couple of hundred. The GT3 repairs 45000€’s. I sucked it up and swore to never drive the Ring again. Driving the Ring is like Russian Roulette. Now I exclusively drive on insured track days.
    When I retrieved the car I had a go as a passenger for a lap in a WTL endurance training session and my God that cemented the decision on NEVER to drive the Ring again myself. It’s no place for amateurs. And I still BIG TIME consider myself an amateur driver, even though I do 8-12 track days per year and have been doing it for the last 10 years.
    On the future of TF, I think it’ll be banned in the future and probably it’s for the best, as you can really get hurt, both physically and financially driving the Ring.
