Nothing like SLRs or DSLRs for that matter.
I proudly own three iterations of the legendary Canon 5D series, the Classic, 5DII and 5DIII.
The Classic is special for close to film-look images. They are beautiful straight out of the camera.
The 5DII is another legend. I love its image quality. If I have to take a single camera for everything to a distant place; it’s going to be 5DII.
Now, on 5DIII. This has been gifted to me recently by my son. It clicked more than 215k shutter actuations however; I expect it to exceed 500k shots based on what I’m observing on the net about 5DII. The 5DIII has taught me the definition of a real all-rounder DSLR. It’s great for landscape, portraiture and wildlife photography as well. Just three days ago I discovered its built-in HDR option too which has brought additional joy for me. Undoubtedly, this is one of Canon’s best outputs for many years.
BTW, as a hobbyist photographer, I love shooting only with real cameras - not with the smartphone updates.
Thank you for the video. Fantastic images, loved those.

Ive been a professional portrait photographer for 10 years this year. I got my first 5d3 in February of 2014, has 400k+ on it now, for $3000. I just picked up another one with 69k on it for $350! I also got a 1dm2 for $185 as well. I love them so much!

Having just picked up the 5Dc and the 5Dii, I'm utterly blown away by the image quality of these older systems. The 5Dc in particular is a camera I needed, but never knew I did. Been a mirrorless shooter from the beginning, and was getting increasingly frustrated with all the extra bloatware on camera bodies now.... they're more and more like using computers, and the 5Dc and 5Dii have been an absolute breathe of fresh air. No bells, no whistles.... just straightforward usability delivering stellar image quality, for pocket money change. People forget that something like the 5Dii was a flagship camera upon it's release, what made it great then still makes it great now. I picked one up for one hundred quid! This camera was 2.5k when released! Crazy. Love the colours, hardly have to edit any of the images.

I had a 5Diii from like 2014-2020 and ever since then I’ve basically switched to a different camera once a year and nothing has felt right. Nothing has felt as intuitive and natural to use as the 5Diii, that thing just felt like an extension of my body. Everything I’ve used since (EOS RP, EOS R, and R6) has required too much looking, checking, thinking, instead of just feeling. Like something as simple as the lock switch- on the 5Diii I can feel the lock switch without looking and know if I’m locked but I can’t do that with the R or R6. The buttons on top of the modern bodies are just dropped at random all over the place, I still need to stop and look down to know whether I’m about to hit record or lock- the older bodies with their top buttons in a straight row took like two afternoons to feel familiar. Long story short, I think I’m going back to the 5Diii.

You can really feel that it's been designed to be used for a whole day, day after day while you're using this camera, and it's a magical feeling.
I bought my 5D3 in 2022, it was my first camera since having a Nikon D7000 for roughly 3 years after release. I sold my whole kit after falling on some hard times. I'm thrilled to be shooting again, a bit of a shock to cross over to the Canon side for me. As others have echoed, the 5D3 is a masterclass in ergonomics and ease of use. After spending 2 years with it everything comes so naturally, I can make it do whatever I want with very little resistance. Often without looking away from the viewfinder. A Sigma 40/1.4 Art practically lives on it, and I also have the usual collection of EF-L zooms in f4 varieties. I only ever shoot for fun and I don't make money from my gear so it's practically all I could dream for as a hobbyist. I have access to an EOS RP I can borrow from time to time as well for when I want to have a play with EVF and some of my vintage MF lenses, but it feels a world apart from the 5D3. I'm also constantly scouring my local used marketplaces for an OG 5D at a nice price. One came up with a nifty fifty for $200CDN but I missed it sadly. Mine is coming soon, I trust. Some day I'd like to get a gimbal that could handle my heavy setup, try one of those crazy ML builds and see what I could do with video, but one thing is for sure: I will die with this camera.

Deployed to Iraq with the 5DmkII
    Made history with that camera!
After multiple publications, I came home and bought a 5D OG and was blown away by the images it produced.
It’s Digital Camera with the soul of film.
Now, I own a 2nd hand mkIII and I’m pretty impressed at the improvements from the mkII.
The OG 5D has enough limitations to feed the creativity.
    Great video! Very inspiring.
Curious as to the ballpark range of how much a similar shoot would cost?
    You have a dope eye!

      Well,
if you’re familiar with film, the grain it produces is similar. I’d like to think it’s due to the ISO and sensor.
The color renditions are beautifully unique to the 5D series.
And, personally for me, it produces a certain level of limitations that exercise my creativity.
      Lastly,
On the 5D mkIII, while I like it’s capabilities, it’s sterile and produces clean imagery.
But too clean for certain scenarios.
One of my first cameras was a Mamiya ZE & Nikon D300s. I’ve always shot digital and film/film-esque cameras simultaneously.
      Here’s a simpler parallel;
Grain for film cameras is like THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) for analog gear in music production.
They produce character that the digital doesn’t have but often tries to emulate.

Man, your photographs look amazing. Very unique composition and beautiful editing!
I‘ve just downgraded from an R6 II to the 5D III. Might sound crazy but I was never really happy with the files I got from the R6. I have owned the 5D III years ago, it was my first professional full frame camera and started my career. A few weeks ago I felt nostalgic and started to play around with a few old photos from that time. And wow was I surprised how easy it was to get a great look out of them. The files from the 5D have a creamy, silky quality to them that I absolutely love. I currently don’t need the bells and whistles that the R6 offers so I pulled the trigger on a used 5D III in mint condition for 500 bucks, shot counter is at just under 20k. I will never ever sell that camera again.

However, the Canon 5d Mark III has always been my dream camera, and I ordered one just last night. I kind of fell off from photography and film making for a few years, relying a lot on Go Pros and iPhones for what I currently do... very excited to explore more and ignite the passion again!

Thanks for the video. Spot on.
The perfect camera is the one you have in your hand. On Canon 5D Mark III; it's an all-rounder camera indeed. I'm a hobbyist and got this camera as a gift from my son. He used it extensively for wedding photography for four years. A year ago he concentrated on film-making and gave up still photography. It clicked more 200k actuations but, I expect it to exceed 500k clicks.
I use it for landscape, street-life and wildlife photography. I do own other time-tested pro bodies like 5DII and 1DIV which are excellent. But 5DIII is able to do everything. I love it.
Not into videos so, couldn't care less about it. Mirrorless camera is something that never impressed me. It's not superior to DSLRs rather in many areas it's inferior.
    Thanks again.

I love the layout the organics over great, I do have a 6D but without that screen on top I always reach for the 5D mark three even though the sensor is a tiny bit cleaner on the 60 at higher ISO’s. that camera is pure perfection. I have a Sony and a canon mirrorless camera but outdoor in bright sunlight. I really struggle to use use them. I’ve been super happy with the 7D mk1 for the past 14 years, but the 5D will be a really nice pairing with it for landscapes and videography…without breaking the bank. Since I got my R6 with rf lens a few years ago, I use my 5D mark iii less before. There are some color difference between older sensor and new sensor. I feel like 5D sensor is easier to get more color back after editing, and R6 sometimes freezes more in “red, pink, orange” color science. Of course R6 has the lighter body, the autofocus and IBS makes much higher rate to get sharpness img even with old lens, and faster shuttle speed. But I always bring my 5D iii as a back up camera when ever I need it.

But both camera's work very well till now. Using them much outside in heavy circomstances (rain, cold, humid warmth, dust, you name it). I use them exclusive with the weather-sealed L-lenses (70-300, 100-400 mkII and 24-70 2.8). They have never ever failed on me. They are like rigid tanks. The robust body protects the electronics inside. Also the battery-life is very good (important in my kind of photography). Thank you for this video, it will prevent me from buying other gear for a long time to go. When one of the rigs brakes I wil buy a "new second hand" one ;-)

Not exactly the same, but the same principle... I use several modern mirrorless cameras with the latest tech, but when ever I look through my old hard drives from when I was using my 2008 Nikon D700, a 12mp full frame camera that on-paper has been surpassed many times over, I wonder why I kept buying newer and newer gear.
The images from that old camera can stand head to head with anything my newer gear can deliver, as long as you are shooting to have images, not a collection of pixels to zoom in on.
My D700, now 15 years old still functions perfectly and I'll never sell it.

@@Miltonmusiwa the 7D has a cropped sensor in it so it adds extra reach to your zoom lens and it’s also cheaper because of that exact reason. The 5D has a full frame which gives you the correct field of view for the lenses you purchase, it lets in more light so it works better in low light + blurrier background and better dynamic range.

@user-uw8qh9gw6t They are both amazing in their own way, however the 7dMkII is a crop sensor camera. It does have exceptionally fast focus and focus tracking which is why I had it, for sports and animals.
However now that I've had time to play with my 5DmkIII, it is hands down better at portraiture.

I bought a 5D MKIII last year with 12,000 shutter clicks, and it's my main camera. I routinely shoot 2,000 photographs in a weekend, and it is an amazing workhorse! It recently got completely drenched from a spending an hour in the rain while on a shoot, and I mean totally soaked! The camera stopped working, so I put it in my car for the day to dry out, and by the evening, it started working again. It had the 24-105 lens on it when it got wet, so I just mounted that lens on another camera and it worked great for the rest of the day. Canon makes some great stuff!

Hot take: The Canon 5D mkIII produces better images than the R5. I owned 2 5D3s and I sold them to buy 2 R5s. I have since sold one of the R5s and bought back a 5D3. It's slower, it has worse ISO performance, worse dynamic range, produces smaller images, bigger, heavier, worse focusing system… but it produces nicer looking images. And image quality is more important than all those other things put together. Hell, I was even shooting professional jobs with a 12MP 5D classic until a few years ago. That produces even nicer images with its CCD sensor (in good light. ISO 1600 is the max and it's grainy as hell).

The 5DIII is the closest look to digital film for a pure photographer with get out of gail video 1080p. Used it globally with L 24-70MM f2.8 and L 70-200MM F2.8, no director or image desk has ever asked me to shoot prime. The menu's are so simple and the RAW files I have enlarged to 14ft x 30ft on wallpaper for Marriott and many other blue chip companies. The 5DIV felt more of a 4K limited video body that also did stills. I had one for 12 months then went back to 5Ds and 5DsR for magazine and studio shoots. The EOS R is my walkabout and gimble body usually with RF 35mm and the R5 is the beast unleashed from Canon, does what I need so well in stills and video for magazine and compliments the C300MII for TV although my wish list is R5 C and C300 MK III. On video for commercial or TV i always output EOS R, R5, C300 MKII to ATOMOS ProRes recorders and set the white balance to K 3600 OR K 5600. Brings the Canon sensors closer in post using the ProRes HQ. Nice video and I always have time for the Canon 5D III as it made me feel complete as a photographer, ready to shoot anything.

    • @hunterhart1
      @hunterhart1  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thanks for your story, the R5 is honestly so good (I wish they allowed sigma glass for RF) something about the feeling of the 5D body just feels so indestructible and I love that. The R5 feels sturdy for a mirrorless but nothing will ever beat the 5D series or the 1DX as far as a tank feel. I made a video about the X100VI and why you don’t need it because of the megapixel bump. People get off to megapixels when in reality, billboards have been printed with just a few megapixels far before sensors crammed so much in. Bottom line is that if the camera feels good, works well and inspires you then it’s doing a good job.

Dude. So awesome. You could take better portraits with crayons than 99% of the people out there can with a Nikon Z9. You rock, and the message is fantastic!

Great video, would you happen to know if there is a way to set up the viewfinder that there is >>ONLY BLACK

Sorry, I don’t understand the question. It’s an optical viewfinder so all you see is what the lens sees in real time rather than an EVF. Could you expand on the question?

I just ordered one, it has 160,000 on the shutter but I noticed some had over 600,000 on the count. The 5D Mark iii is an upgrade to my T7 body, I spent all my money on the 150-600mm Sigma C lens so my leftover budget was $400 MAX on a better body. 📸 🐿️

    Great video and stunning images
I've realised how much spraying and praying i do and think mirrorless cameras are part of that. I'm gonna test out a canon 6d after hearing how good the colours are!

I sold my Fujifilm X-H2 and I'm now looking at a 5d Mark iii, going from professional to hobby, I felt the Fuji did too much of the work for me and I sort of fell out of love with photography because it wasn't challenging and I wasn't feeling creative, can't decide between the 50 1.8 and 85 1.8 at the moment to pair with it though, limited budget since its just for occasional use for myself.

      @hunterhart1  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@northernrider780 that’s a tough decision, I’d probably go with the 50 just for versatility though.

Sold my 5D mark iii for a cinema camera (BMCC6K). I regret selling it. I don’t regret the purchase. I’ve tested the Sony a7iii the canon eos 6D. Nothing has felt the same since I sold it. I’m gonna buy a used one on eBay
