Used to dream of a 5d3 5 years back when using ML on a 550D. Now they're £500, and while other sensors and processors have moved on, a 5d3 with ML can still mix it with anything, and arguably towers over all in bang for buck. Some of the results I've seen are astonishing if you're ok with the workflow. 14bit Raw continuous at 1080p30, and plenty of options at 60fps and 48fps to come close. After all these years A1ex at ML is STILL at it too. Astonishing. Do lookout for the shutter count if buying s/h
I think the Sony a7 II is worth considering for around the same price on the used market. it has in-body image stabilization, and it's lighter weight. The XAVC codec yields some high video quality without any hacks or external devices. It doesn't shoot 4K either, but can do 60p in 1080p. You also get an electronic viewfinder that works in video as well as stills, something DSLRs can't do. The screen also tilts up and down, so that's something even though it doesn't flip around. It would be great if someone could hack these Sony cameras similar to the Magic Lantern hacks for Canon.
No one is debating whether or not this is a "photo-centered" camera (as you put it). I'm only using this Canon 5D miii with the 17-40mm f/4 lens because of a company I work with, otherwise I would never use this darn thing! I don't like this camera and lens one iota. It weighs a ton, super clunky and doesn't take great pictures and no 4K video. Also has very poor low light performance, super noisy in dark locations, and the AF is a joke, I have to do everything in MF in order to take photos. This camera is an absolute workflow killer, hard to believe this is a full frame camera. I'm selling my Canon R50 because that too has distortion and vignetting issues because of the crop sensor coupled with a subpar Nisi 9mm f/2.8 lens. I'll be getting the Canon R8 with the Laowa 12mm f/2.8 which is perfect for shooting real estate. I would advise anyone getting into real estate to AVOID the 5D miii and the R50. Buy the R8 or any modern Canon full frame with a fixed/fast lens like the Laowa 12mm f/2.8, it's a phenomenal lens on the R8!

Thanks for the video. I wanted to be optimistic about a 5d deal I found in lieu of getting a new RP, but I was already skeptical about the SD CF dual storage... Knowing that it won't double record videos is a big miss to me. Great photography camera but since they're almost all the same price as an RP I really can't justify it without modern AF. Was hoping the dual slots would be a selling point for event shooting... Alas, it's a very antiquated version of dual storage. :(

Lovely clear presentation. As you clearly said technology moves on: so today's flagships would be tomorrow's barges. I love my MK III. Not sure whether, I really want a MK IV or is it worth considering R5, any thoughts on this?
Please do a video on 7D MK II, if you could. Best wishes. Take great care.
5D 3: Sigma EX-DG lenses & vintage SLR lenses with no crop factor.
Loving my 5 D M3 it's a used one but so I at 77
I am a professional photographer and i use 5D mark lll and plan to use more 5-6 years
hi nice video, what camera and lense are you using. thanks
Thanks, my talking head set up is shot on the 5D mark iii with the Tamron 24-70mm set at around 60mm at F/2.8 and the B roll of the camera was shot on a Sony a6300 🙂
Futhermore it is still worth Mark ii in 2020! He gives you more than the last crop cameras if we talk only about photo.
yo .. what camera do you use
The talking head stuff was on the 5d mk iii and the shots of the 5d were taken on the Sony a6300 😊👍
@@taohudson do you ever cut the 6300 footage with the ML mkiii raw footage?
@@dpixvid I have done a couple of times in the past at a pinch. (Although I wouldn’t really recommend) I did find that matching the dominant colours and tone on the scopes gave the best results. Also, the HSL secondary tab in Premiere was very helpful at times as both have totally different codecs, they both had a slightly different rendition of blues and teal. Having said that, they did end up cutting together pretty decently, all be it with a bit of work. 🙂
Still stand alone in 2024 love my 5D mark iii
Yes.
Is there no continuos autofocus??
No.
Acabo de comprar una 5D mark iii para usarlo mas en video y ya me desanime :(
Nice review. I’ve had the canon 5D mk iii for a few years now and it’s build quality is amazing it’s survived so much use.
They sure are built to last :)
Of course it is. Great photos come the person using the camera ... The 5D mk3 is a workhorse professional camera ... Be creative and you'll be rewarded with stunning images 👍
I was about to buy one
I’m a wildlife photographer but do landscape so looking for a cheap ff since ML are out the dslr are getting cheaper I was looking at the 5d2 5d3 6d don’t need speed just solid camera
5D 3, offers so much for less.
@@arricammarques1955 Tnx sticking with my 7d2
We use a 5D Mk3 to shoot our fake commercials and other skits. Magic Lantern brings a little more life into this camera by allowing RAW video recording and 3.5k resolution.
Many thanks for the useful input! I have just purchased a 5D MK III with around 5000 clicks (practically new) + 24 - 105 f4L. Will use my trusty 80D for video. I have decided to avoid 4K and stay at FHD.... Already full of various HD for my files (+ backups) and I cannot afford the extra space requirements for 4K....
80d is rubbish. 5d mark III can shoot 14 bit raw video which destroys even latest 4k spec cameras as mot of them only shoots h.265 or prores.
Nicely done, Thanks for not putting music in background, That’s why subscribed.also, please do not put intro more than 3 seconds :)
this camera is still worth in 2030 :))
Photographers, you ruin the world, as camera conspiracies always says.
THIS IS “THE” VIDEO CAMERA WE SHOULD LEARN TO APPRECIATE! :)
Trans Formers 1 also used 5D Mark II and 7Ds for some scenes!
New person
i'm looking for a camera with a fast auto focus and great in low light situations i heard very nice things about this camera i mean 22.3 megapixels is great but i want a full frame camera that can do everything and i learn the camera
sony a7iii
The 5d series are all full frame
You're going to get fast auto focus by using a fast lens.
@@nickfatsis9607 which one is a good fast lens
Good enough for Sam Abell, good enough for you
I couldn’t agree more 🙂
I'm not interested in the video Photography is a great tool for today
Just ordered one for $500 AUD.
I love it, can you give me one🙏
J'en vend un a 700€ sur liege
Lets get one thing right the 5d is a stills camera and its fantastic as a still camera if your into video buy a dedicated video camera.
So Daz tell me, what camera would you suggest if someone wants to shoot full frame FHD video, in a small body, with great colour, the same ports and flexibility, that’s under £600 AND is a VIDEO camera ONLY? Hmmmmm???
I think I’ve made my point...
@@taohudson Sorry iv'e no idea as I'm not into video . I'm old school come from SLR film photography when video was a separate thing so if the 5d had no video capability then I wouldn't be bothered.
@@taohudsonyou forgot to mention RAW video with ML… Unbeatable!
I don’t want to be rude but dam haircut bro
hi tao
Hey 😁
LoL you look like a young Joe Biden. Good stuff though. I am using this camera for mostly food photography. Still learning how to get the most of it if I am being honest. Any recommendations as to vids or articles that could help me get better? I also intend to use it for short vids. Mostly in ambient restaurant lighting. Cheers bruv!
Calling someone a Biden is not polite

Yeah I should probably do something about that lol
Opening music is HORRENDOUS
Thanks very much
:DDDDDDDDDDDDDD
For pictures yes it still reliable. Video urm not anymore.
Answer: yes for photographers. Anything else, not really
Not that much of an improvement of the Mark III over the Mark II.
Just buy a 6D Mark II, it is an upgrade from this camera in every way.
absolutely NOT in every way.
@@jeffdeezy I have a 5d Mark iii and 6d Mark ii. I know it is a massive upgrade.
Could you please tell me why? I'm trying to decide between these two cameras.

This is the worst camera in my life, was a big mistake, pain in my ass..i don't know what are you talking about.. I'm a professional photographer this camera worst than an iphone11..
Can you elaborate on what your problems were?
