Wow. Thanks for the video! I'm considering rebarrelling my 17 Remington to 6.5x204 ruger for high power silhouette. Yes its underpowered, but I develop flinch over a course of 49 rounds. I forgot all about basic brass. And its starline!
Great video, Have you ever looked at 6mm x 45 ? Imo it's the caliber that the AR should have been from the beginning. You get extra energy and velocity, plus there are many options with weight and bullet style available in 6mm.
What about case neck thickness and uniformity? I find case necks are usually quite thick when sizing down larger caliber cartridges to smaller ones. I may have become a fanatic about case neck turning.
If you are not splitting necks the multi-step halfway forming is waste of time, especially if you have the form 500 of them. I form 7.62x40 cases and process is almost same. I use range picked up 223 and I never split the necks even without annealing which is recommended. I found that the initial run out can be significantly reduced if you FL size it, rotate 90 degrees and size it again.
That was a suggestion from AMP- as I mentioned in the article, I'm erroring on the side of more steps and more annealing than is probably necessary. I had some cracking early on in my experimentation. I think some of these steps could be removed one by one, checking under the microscope, and testing longevity (see the article for microscope screenshot).
Can you make a video on turning 30-06 into 7.65 Argentine? I'm tired of shooting mil surp and ppu and heard this is possible. You always have great info, keep it up and thanks.
Hey was watching a melted salt annealing video and would love it if you would cover that low cost option. That machine is cool! But a grand is a bit steep for me.
Not just you brother, I don't know many people that can afford one of those machines. But, if I ever win the lottery, that's one of the first things I'm getting! 😃
Should do a review on the Lyman American 8 and see how consistent each hole is, I did I full length sizing test and each hole had a totally different measurement and same with seating length. And the run out was different for each hole. I ended up selling mine. Just waiting for my summit to come in
Hi Gavin , I’ve had my AMP for a few years now, the part I don’t understand about the amount of times you have annealed that brass is when the machine first hit the market the guys who made it said that if you were to run the brass a second time through the machine let alone a third time the brass would be over annealed and should be discarded could you shed some light on this or perhaps you have spoken to the guys at AMP that this process was ok to carry out with no issues to the brass , thanks in advance Gianni.
If you anneal the brass with the same setting on the AMP, it shouldn't do anything. It should just anneal it to the same amount it has previously done. It should change nothing.
@@newerest1 I’m sure that is what I remember them saying at the time ,, so once you have annealed the brass and it was soft , if you anneal it a second time wouldn’t it be over softened or is that not the case ?
The 350 legend is also a rebated rim cartridge. That means the base of the case is larger than where the rims is. This allows a father case to use the standard .223/5.56 bolt face. It also means you can't make you own brass from a .223/5.56 case. If you are looking for a larger bullet with less hassle look at the .357 max. auto. Basically take the basic brass he started with and stuff a .355 bullet in it. It is a wildcat but info can be found on it.
Congratulations 👍 great job! I get 6.5x47 from 308 and I get more robust cases! I also own a Kelbly NYX with a krieger barrel match in 284 winchester but I can't find a cartridge case to get this ammo from .... Do you have any ideas? Congratulations again make interesting videos!
K Gavin, really enjoy your videos and have learnt a lot, but for a fairly young fella you have way too much disposable income. Care to shed some light on your ability to acquire so much gear? Self made, lottery or maybe inheritance?? JK keep it up I enjoy the learning..

As always great video, Great intel, will use it.
Excellent and very informative. I am just starting case forming . Ty

I use my AMP to resize 7.62 to 6.5 creedmoor, works great. Do use as many steps but the same principle.

He mentioned having some split.
My main question is why do you anneal after the final sizing and trimming? Have you experienced any case length difference after the annealing?

@@Ultimatereloader ah. Okay. I guess it is better to error on the side of caution rather then regret ruining all that nice brass.
Exactly :)

How is the moa on the 25-45 can you make it any better

How hard would it be to make 410 ga brass? Is it better than your typical shot shell?
You should build a cutout on one of your walls with a shooting bench so you can do that from inside when the weather outside sucks.
Great idea! I'm working on on a covered shooting bench area- it's a 365 year a day job! :)
gavintoobe I think David Tubb has a setup similar to what I suggested.
Could you recommend a set up for a beginner that wants to reload pistol and rifle cartridges?
th-cam.com/video/SjNEFzfboaA/w-d-xo.html
Many start elsewhere, and eventually end up with a Dillon.
Anyone commercially loading this ammo yet? I've yet to see any of it on shelves anywhere and it looks like a promising round
One option is Sharps ammo: www.srcarms.com/product-category/ammo/
I thought with annealing you need to quench the cases in water. Not true?
You could but it's really not necessary.
No need to quench in water
Whats the difference between 350 legend and 25-45 sharps??
.355 bullet vs .257 bullet

Fantastic video, why only 402 likes???
Hey Gavin, just so you know the Ultimate reloaded logo (specifically the U) is washed out by the black format outside the video render.
hi I was wondering how to do that thanks gavin 👍 first comment
Yes, you are FIRST! :) :)
New project...... how about that howa 6 creed project 🤔🤔
Buying properly formed and headstamped brass direct from Sharps Rifle Company would be a lot less work. To each his own.
Rob Kelley You are correct- but 100% not the point of this story! :)
And when Sharp's stops selling brass? Then what?
Nifty
As exciting as watching paint dry!
Jim Klink were you expecting an action-suspense-thriller? :)
No but Velocity would be nice, accuracy would be nice overall web based ogive would be nice load would be nice
FireEscape exactly :)
