This recipe is in our Vol. 3 Cookbook
    Hershey’s Syrup Cake
    1 1/2 CUPS OF SUGAR
    1 1/2 STICKS OF MARGARINE
    6 LARGE EGGS
    24 OZ. HERSHEY'S CHOCOLATE SYRUP
    1 1/2 CUPS OF SELF-RISING FLOUR
    1 TSP. VANILLA EXTRACT
Cream sugar and butter together, then add eggs one at a time. Add chocolate syrup, then add flour 1/2 cup at a time. Add vanilla and mix for 2 minutes on medium speed.
Place batter in a greased and floured 13x9 sheet cake pan and bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, reduce heat to 325 degrees and continue baking until a toothpick comes out clean. (Takes mine about 40-45 minutes total).
    Mama’s Stovetop Fudge Icing
    3 CUPS SUGAR
    1 STICK SALTED BUTTER
    3 HEAPING TBSP. COCOA
    1/4 CUP PEANUT BUTTER
    1 CUP EVAPORATED MILK
    1 TSP. VANILLA EXTRACT
1.5 CUPS PARCHED PEANUTS (OR PECANS)
Combine sugar & cocoa, mix well, set aside. Melt butter on medium/low heat in a medium saucepan. Add sugar/cocoa mixture & milk, mix well. Keep on low heat until mixture simmers.
Careful with Sugar Granules: Wash utensils to prevent transfer of sugar crystals into fudge.
Boiling Fudge: Bring to a slow simmer (until it looks as if most of the sugar has melted). Cover & turn up to high heat. Set a timer for 3 minutes. Check with a candy thermometer. Cook to a soft ball stage, around 240 degrees.
Beating Fudge: Pour candy into mixing bowl. Do not scrape sides of saucepan (to reduce chance of sugar crystals getting into mix), mix on high, add vanilla. Beat until frosting starts to thicken, then add nuts and turn the mixer off.

I love this recipe, thank you! The syrup used to come in a can for this recipe and as a teenager, I wanted that at the end, it was such a treat! A little corn syrup, about 1 tablespoon will prevent the sugar from crystalizing.

OMG you made punch-hole cake! This was such a treat when I was young. I have a very funny story (funny to me, not to my brother) involving our chicken houses, my older brother, and punch-hole cake. It was our favorite lunch dessert before going out to gather the eggs and feed the chickens. It was our business, so we gathered about 1000 eggs a day. One day we had punch-hole cake and he thought he had some left on his hand, so he licked it. It was not cake.

I think what I would do with that recipe because I can't stand so much sugar it actually hurts my teeth. I probably would use Hershey's chocolate powder Coco unsweetened and stead of chocolate chips for the frosting and the same thing for the cake itself I would not use Hershey's syrup I would use Hershey's powdered cocoa I bet that would l I mean be really good.and you would have that taste the chocolate instead of pure sugar with the taste of Hershey's syrup and sugar.but it did look good but I just think it seemed way too sweet for me because, I've used and try different recipes and for me that's just way too much sugar.but thank you for sharing the recipe that's awesome I could work with that just for fun.

Tammy, this is a classic! Thy an almond extract in place of vanilla extract, it gives a cherry flavor to the cake and icing. I sometimes add dry cherries to the batter. Yes, it will make an even richer cake!

What if you bake it in a jelly roll pan & cut it into smaller slices? Looked so yummy!!!!!

      @CollardValleyCooks  5 ปีที่แล้ว

That would work, it needs to be small pieces because it is so rich!

Ok I want to make this but ICannot afford that make sure I want one so bad and I am in the winter of my life now so it ain’t happening but I see so many awesome recipes with that mixer and it does make a difference so if you don’t have the mixer and you just have a little regular beater is that gonna work

Hi Tammy! My crew considers chocolate & sugar to be two of the major food groups and believes they should have a section on the food pyramid all their own! I'll be making this cake over the weekend. I have everything here except the chocolate syrup & I noticed that item has magically appeared on my grocery list! Thanks for the video, y'all!

Can you use just flour? Or does it have to be self-rising flour?

    • @CollardValleyCooks

Add 1 1/2 tsp of baking powder and 1/4 tsp of salt per cup of regular flour if you want use it.

When mom made her fudge, she got it to the soft ball point then carefully wiped the inside of the pan with a wet paper towel to keep the sugar crystals from forming. Worked everytime.

Make a Wacky Cake Tammy... It's so moist and chocolatey that it will literally stick back together when it's cut. My husband makes them for birthdays and other events... Sadly, it's my grandma's recipe but he does better than I do, credit where credit is due. :D
