Opera Singer Reacts to Dimash Kudaibergen (Daybreak) - Dimash Journey #5

  • Hey Everyone! Angel here. Claudia is in France, so I edited this one myself- I am CLEARLY not as great an editor as her, so thanks for your patience if this video is a little different that others! I am REALLY excited to be into the Bastau performances as Dimash is clearly on a whole new level of comfort and flexibility. This piece was great to me for a lot of reasons, but most especially those 2 runs towards the end- I tried to mimic them, but they were a little to fast and sophisticated for me to pick up on the very first try- I definitely went back and listened again at the piano so I could pick it apart! Such a cool song!!!
    We're getting so close to 10,000! Please remember to like and subscribe!

    The story behind Daybreak adds to the experience. The song writer wrote the song about real life events...a cable car accident in China some years ago. Parents held their infant up to be rescued as they died from their injuries. The song is from child's perspective. That child was later adopted by the songwriter.

      And Dimash invited the songwriter, Han Hong and the adopted boy, to his performance in the Singer 2017 competition. But because of his illness (which even prevented him from speaking) Dimash's performance was not what he wished it to be.

    I am in love with his tenor too!! I mean, of course I'm impressed so much by him because of his overall "package" as a vocalist, but indeed, I believe his tenor register is among the best I've listened to and is my favorite part of his "arsenal". Something a lot of people (even professionals) often neglect, as they are all used to waiting for his soprano register or high mixed belting to come forward that they really don't pay attention to his tenor register. In SOS, right after the final climax, he "settles" down to a tenor B4. A freakin' B4!!! That's the Nessun Dorma climax, and it's where he settled down!! His C5 and D5 are just SO good! He is phenomenal!!
    Thank you for another great analysis!

      He is, of course, primarily a pop singer, but your discussion totally makes sense, because his classical voice is lyric tenor.

    • @opterios
      @opterios 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@NarynbekGilman Exactly, I'm talking about his quality when he chooses to sing lyrically in the tenor range. His voice sounds really gorgeous there. I agree of course, Dimash is mainly a pop singer, but at the same time I think he is an innovator in singing. If only more pop singers could bring half of the quality that he brings, contemporary pop would be in a lot better place than it is now.

    • @NarynbekGilman
      @NarynbekGilman 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@opterios Well, definitely, he is an innovator. By 'pop singer' I meant that in general, i.e. his experimentation outside of his 'normal' voice range.

    This song always manages to make me teary.
    He's relaxed and comfortable, because this is his own audience; obviously a competition is not the same. He said it recently in an interview, that he feels totally free and at home on stage, because he trusts his audience, and knows that his audience trusts him; so for him it's like being at home between relatives and friends.

    He does have songs where he stays in his tenor register because even Dimash can't do an entire concert of super difficult performances. He has to have a few where he can vocally relax a little bit. These simpler performances are not the ones most requested by the fans. Nothing comes to mind of an interesting one from 2017 but I can think of several from 2018 and more recent.

    Thank you for the elaborate analysis of Daybreak! For me his performance is as beautiful vocally as it is moving. It brings out the emotions of this harrowing song in such a way that you live through the tragedy of the child and revere the love and sacrifice of the parents. I have found for myself that even if I admire the beauty and virtuosity of Dimash's songs and performances, I fully appreciate what he achieves, when I listen and read the lyrics and the backstories. He builds his whole performance on the lyrics imho. And unlike quite a lot of popular songs, the lyrics of his songs are worth reading on their own - they are thoughtful and beautiful poetry.

    In 1999 in a chinese town there was a horrific cablecar-accident. 14 people lost their lives. The rescueacctions took several hours through the night until DAYBREAK under very hard circumstanses. One couple managed to rescue their baby boy and lift him to safety before they themselves fell to their death. A famous singer/songwriter wrote this song as a tribute to the heroic parents who made the ultimate sacrifice. Loosing their own lives out of their love for their child. Dimash heard this song and learned about the events leading up to the making of the song when he was about 10 years old. It hit him so hard that his whole body wad trembeling he has sad in interview. So this song is very close to Dimashes heart. And you can really feel his sadness and passione whenever he performes this song..
    The singer/songwriter ended up adopting the boy!
    Love and peace from Dear in Sweden 💙🙏💙🙏

    What is clear to me is that Dimash's health was under pressure at the Singer, it was his first big stage and revealed him to the huge Chinese population. At Bastau he is physically transformed, glowing with health, absolutely beautiful! And bursting with energy! He took a leap developmentally, really astonishing to see!

    I can't wait for you to hear all the other things he can do and hear his full operatic voice you will be blown away. There is much more to hear! I believe All by myself is next and Unforgettable day at Gakku!! The lyrics to daybreak are so touching and makes it so much more of an experience when you hear him sing this song with the lyrics.

    Hi again Angel:) What amazes me outside concert in the elements either hot and sweaty, rainy and soaking wet. Dimash never disappoints and always performs. He really enjoys his craft and always want to please his "Dears".. I also think the head shake just could be a style he did in the Opera 2 song not sure only Dimash would know maybe someday he will disclose in an interview.

    Once again, this was a fabulous Dimash technical analysis from you, Angel. I watch every Dimash technical analysis from professional singers and voice trainers, but few of them provide such detail of the specific techniques that Dimash employs in a particular song. Your analysis is exceptional, thank you! I learn new things every time. Just a suggestion for avoiding "dislikes" specific to Dimash videos: if you make your own text-only intro screen, translated into Russian, stating that this is a technical analysis video and not a reaction video, and that the video will have frequent pauses for technical analysis, it would go far towards eliminating dislikes.

    Hi Angel. I am enjoying your journey with the phenomenally talented and hard working Dimash and I absolutely love your professional analyses of his technique, range and stage performances, etc. Just a little background on the wonderful Daididau: A Kazakh Dear translated a recent explanation Dimash gave during a concert a few days ago that he himself, along with one of his father's friends actually wrote the arrangement to that song when he was only 12 years old! His dream then was to one day proudly sing that song to the world. I always thought of Daididau as being his signature song and now I know why and love it even more, if that's possible. Hi from Sydney, Australia 🇦🇺

    Since you need to stay away from the singer competition, you should do "Sinful Passion". He floats in and out of a tenor voice plus does some extraordinary vocal gymnastics. You will love it. Keep going, really loving it!

    love your reactions Angel and explanations. He did this in the Singer, but had lost his voice and after getting some injections was told not to sing any super high notes, so he had to adjust the song for the competition. so it was so lovely to hear him sing it here the way he'd meant to. You should watch him do Diva Dance here in the Bastau concert (the alien song from Fifth Element).

    Dimash will have vocal coaches whom he depends on for critical feedback, advice on any problems he encounters, and on-going development. He knows he is a work in progress, he wants to learn all the time, and he wants his voice to stay in good shape as he ages. He does not want people who just say wow, amazing, you're a gift from God, or an alien, or whatever, because that doesn't help him. Angel is an expert practitioner and coach, and it is interesting to hear about the things that she hears and sees. The voice is a fantastically delicate apparatus and controlling it is hard. Dimash is human, there's no such thing as perfect, and nothing stays the same. So it's totally fine fine for her to give her expert opinion on what she sees. She has Dimash's best interests at heart, she's obviously a fan, so there's no need to be defensive if she says something critical. Plenty of channels out there where the reactors say wow and move on. This is a different sort of channel.

    He was a very sick puppy in the singer version, he had 5 throat treatments and several traditional remedies to try the get his voice back, he pulled it off but his high notes were absent and he said that when he was singing his throat felt like broken glass was in his throat, he was in serious pain. For that condition he was amazing, but this version is what it was supposed to sound more like had his throat not been infected.

    Angel, I really appreciate your commentary; it's not too long! Please keep doing what you do; it's unique and valuable. (We are enriched when we can appreciate with our emotion AND with our minds, and your explanations of the technique are helping with the latter.) Thank you for the effort that goes into each one of your reactions! Bastau was only a few months after Singer, so in terms of developing as a singer or even growing in vocal maturity, there's not much difference. The appreciable difference is that in Bastau, he was in his element. He was more "himself," pumped with excitement after coming home triumphantly from Singer, validated in his art, and jazzed to be presenting his first *arena* concert in his capital city. If I'm repeating something someone else has said, I apologize, but in his formative years, he faced some very demeaning, cringeworthy, entirely unprofessional criticism from judges, as well as facing public criticism for using his soprano belt. As an artist, he persisted with humility and aplomb, so Bastau was a "coming out party" of sorts for him. Prior to Singer, he had just completed a 25-city concert tour across KZ and several bordering cities in neighboring countries, so solo concerts were not new to him, and in essence, that tour was his prep for Singer. But Bastau was one of his first big dreams to come true. As you can see, he was very thin, as he had had appearance after appearance in China, flight after flight after flight, but his spirit was not languishing at all! :-) When you are ready to listen to a song that is out of order, from before Singer, let me know. (You don't have to react, just listen if you prefer.) It's unequivocally the most gorgeous thing I've heard him sing, and you know that's saying A LOT, given all the songs he's debuted in 2019. He was younger (2016) but the quality of his vocals, the musicality, the way he painted with the colors of his voice: it's just magnificent! Thank you, Angel. You're marvelous!! Again, thank you!!

    I remember a few years back when I listened to Daybreak the first time I shed tears. I didn't understand what the song was about.
    Then later I found out back in The Singer he sang this song while having severe throat infection I was in awe.
    Dimash : *couldn't speak a word, got some shots on the neck, sang beautifully then nothing after. I can't get over the story.

    ДИМАШ ничего, никогда не делает просто так. У НЕГО абсолютно всё прочу'вствовано, даже приме'ряно на себя, пережито внутри себя. ОН поёт и ставит себя на место этого героя, от имени которого ОН поёт. Поэтому получается так проникновенно, доступно ЕГО слушателям. У кого душа спит, закрыта, те ЕГО не понимают, не принимают и мне их очень жалко. 🤔☹Вам, спасибо большое за реакцию 👏👏👏🤝🤗✌

    is funny...i have found a lot of people saying he strains a lot in his mix and that all his best perofrmances are lip sync...and..what about this?' is this lips sync too?' is the video with Andrea Bocceli without a mic in a room also lips sync??there is a lot of people that their only talent is to critize...envy is such an owful thing.

    • @DarthRayj
      @DarthRayj 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The very beginning of this performance where he starts singing early and then drops the mic after two words should prove it's not lip-synced. It's really hard to notice it because he reacts to what appears to be a mistake in a professional manner by carrying on as if it never happened.

    • @marcosmartinez2836
      @marcosmartinez2836 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@specificsoup well, i know he has tension,but people says strain is worse,the say Dimash strain in some notes cause he doesnt support the note with the abdominal and lower back muscles,...or that he has the high larynx issue that makes your voice sound annoying in the high notes...other people say the annoying sound is because his singing technique, voice placement, which put the sound in your front mask,making the vowel sound thin,not rounded and with a lack of resonance.
