  • Hey everyone! Glad to be back in action with what I think is my favorite Dimash video so far! It was really beautiful to see him sharing his soul and singing a Kazakh piece- and playing the dombra. We’re almost to 7k so please like and subscribe!!! There’s more great videos coming, and as always please leave your recommendations for videos in the comments!

I've to say that I don't usually like belting voice because it gets annoying to my ears, but I love Dimash's belting, as it's comfortable to my ears because of its roundness. 😊 Angela, I've always enjoyed your Dimash's reactions. One of the most soulful and lyrical songs performed by Dimash (one of my favorite). There are also a lot of deep songs in Dimash’s repertoire, where he doesn’t demonstrate his vocal skills (War and Peace, Daididau, Samaltau), when you listen to them you don’t think about vocal, the main thing is the meaning and the lyrics themselves. Very interesting and informative video, thanks for the excellent analysis👍👍

"daididau" is my favorite as well! i'm often drawn to songs/performances that have great significance to the artist, especially ones that show the love they have for their country and people (something that i absolutely LOVE in dimash). i often catch myself humming it when i do stuff around the house, hah. although i'm sure there are songs that i'll love as much as this one, since i haven't heard that much yet. i'm trying to listen to him in small doses, 'cause i'm kinda scared i'm gonna run out of this drug quickly and freak out ;)

If you watch the Gloria Wu version after the fact, the backstory with give the lyrics context. The same goes for Episode 8 "Daybreak". The vocally superior version is from Bastau, but the Gloria Wu version gives you the tragic backstory to the song. The Gloria Wu version also goes into how Dimash had lost his voice the day before having to sing, and had an injection to his throat. I thought it was Gloria Wu's intros that prevented copyright strikes. I do know however that her "Autumn Strong" is slower, and ends up a semi-tone lower. Both the Singer and Bastau versions of "Daybreak" are in E, but I guess for a vocal analysis Bastau would be better, and I suppose knowing the meaning behind the song isn't that important for that purpose. Some reactors do both the Singer and Bastau versions in one reaction. Or I guess you could always watch Gloria Wu's intro to the beginning of the song beforehand (use the "cc" button) on your own, and then react to the Bastau performance.

    • @Santti.G

    • @vincer9960

@@Santti.G The best is to watch The Singer version of Daybreak from Gloria Wu's channel with enabled subtitles (CC)...then be shocked at how good Dimash managed despite being sick...then watch the Bastau version and be blown away.

    • @Urgelt
      @Urgelt 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@vincer9960 Gloria also furnishes some backstory for both 'Daybreak' and 'Autumn Strong' - essential viewing if you want to understand why Chinese audiences react so strongly to his performances of those songs. The backstories themselves are compelling.
I'll endorse your recommendation of listening to both versions of 'Daybreak.' Dimash sick = amazing, but Dimash = healthy is a whole 'nother level.

There is a small difference between his version from The Singer and this one. But it’s understandable: at The Singer competition his goal was to impress the audience in 5 minutes ; while here, he has to sing a 3 hours concert, so it’s different, he must spare his voice..
I’m waiting for your reaction to Ogny Pietra and Passione ☺️😃
Edit: I really don’t like the idea that you are not allowed to watch in advance a song that you are going to react to! I’m not watching your video for you’re facial expressions, to see you ,,blown away” and super impressed! (There are literally thousands of that kind of reactions to Dimash on TH-cam) No, I want to hear a pertinent and professional analysis! That’s why I highly recommend to learn about the song you’re reacting, about the story/ topic of the song and about the composer. Especially with songs like Passione which is a piece of art, that you can’t fully understand by watching just 1 time, there are just too many things happening there !
It’s like in opera, I watched Turandot or Traviata, or Aida many times; still I discover new aspects every time .

As always, your analysis is so in depth and based on physical explanations, fascinating ! His ornamentation is closer to Farsi music, which influenced the entire region. It's a very different kind of technique to middle eastern/north african melismatic styles. The Farsi tecnique is more diaphragm oriented than laryngial, so it's harder to execute.

    You've hooked me.
I'm not any sort of vocal expert. Dimash stuns me, I know I'm hearing a virtuoso, but in my head, there isn't much to help me understand the nature of his craft. For that reason, I've sought the reactions of vocal coaches, hoping to glean better insight.
And I'm making some progress! For example, I'm pretty well tuned into the nature of Dimash's use of dynamics. He has an enormous dynamic range, from breathy almost-not-singing to full belts and crazy mixes. He uses dynamics to create intense drama in his songs. He had to have gotten his sense of drama from his classical training; we sure don't hear much of it in radio-formatted pop music, which tends to be dynamically flat.
Angel, you're taking me deeper down the rabbit hole, which is exactly where I want to go - explaining nuances I could not have understood alone. And you are sharing your sheer pleasure from his performances. I take delight in the sharing.

Thank you for your thoughtful reaction. Daididau one of my favorites (yes, I say that about 99% of his repertoire😂). He delivers it with so much emotion, my eyes tear up every time. If I could make one request, I understand that you are analyzing the vocals and that is why you made a couple of small cuts in the performance. I would however, love to see your reactions to some of those in betweens... as a performer yourself. Those moments, for me, are part of what make him so much more than just a phenomenal singer. Just my 2 cents 😁
Also, I don't know if you noticed, but that whole performance was sung without his in ears. In the beginning they seemed to be malfunctioning or not working right, and after a couple of failed attempts at getting them to work, he scratched it and took them both out. I would be interested to know your thoughts on whether/how much that might affect a singer in such a large venue. I just thought that was interesting, and it made this performance all the more impressive for me. 😊
Thank you again, and I look forward to the next reaction! ✌❤

Thank you, no one explains the vocals like you. That’s why I enjoy your reaction. Never learn so much in such a little time. You’re great.

Very professional and thorough analysis! You will hear more melismas in Hello and Sinful passion. You definitely wanna hear his duet of Swan goose with mongolian singer Tengri and then the very sad but beautiful kazak song Samaltau. So looking forward to your reaction of his songs in full classical singing: Olimpico and the duet with Aida Garifulina in Ulysse, the trio with Aida and Lara Fabian on Ti Amo Cosi. Greetings from a swedish Dear 🇸🇪!

This song is super important to him, is a traditional kazah song, so always when he hear the audience sing the song with him he cries for the emotion 😭🥺

The whole story behind this song is very emotional. In other variants he's playing at the string instrument very professional at the beginning of the song.

I am so grateful for your Dimash analysis. I wish you could do it forever. It is so interesting and you talk about aspects that no one else does. I also learn and become more aware of my own singing. Dimash is also a composer and he did Unforgettable Day in the Singer. If you want to avoid these videos, the best option is from the Gakku concert. It's not that long after the Singer competition.

You will hear this used extensively in his singing. As someone who has spent years living in the Middle East, I can assure you that a lot of melismas and techniques are attributed to arabic style that are in fact not. The makam in his rendition of Hello is a prime example. People immediately say it's Arabic when in fact it's Turkic.

Love all of your analyses so far❤️ Very interesting to hear an explanation of the complexity of the techniques he is using. I was inspired to watch the few of your performances that are on TH-cam 👏 It gives so much more weight to your reactions knowing that you so skilful yourself.
The Singer channel is notorious for handing out copyright strikes particularly when they have a new season underway.
I get your initial idea of tracking Dimash's development but you really are missing out 😭
For instance, if you look hard enough, you will find performances from his early teens and from other competitions but I would trade any or all of those to watch his performances of Passione, Ti Amo Cosi, Ulisse, Ogni Pietra and Know from Igor Krutoy's anniversary concert from the VTB arena 2019. They're all on his channel, no copyright problem there! 😍 I can't help it, I'm an opera fan.
By the way, just in case you change your mind, a lot of vocal coaches (real ones) have reacted to Ogni Pietra performed at the Arnau concert using the Dimash48 fancam version. This is great for analysing his impeccable technique, but is a little boomy. The official version, obviously gives a better sound quality.
    I live in hope 😀

Agreed with every word!👌💞 My favourite at the VTB was Ulisse, but it was a close-run thing - Dimash was truly glorious throughout! Regarding Ogni Pietra/Olimpico, my two favourites are the New Wave version for the stage performance and sound, BUT - for *actual* vocal coaches and/or singers, especially those with opera connections, I always recommend the Dimash48 fancam, for showing his technique - I find it truly fascinating to watch his vocal mechanics at work, and it's one of my most-watched videos on YT! There's just something so mesmerising about it, hypnotic even, that you can't look away... for me, it's become a sort of ASMR for the eyes!🤗
