Why is HOOF CARE so CONFUSING? (Chop off toes or leave toes?)

Yes, I loved this lesson! Thank you for sharing. I learned a lot and it has started to take some of the confusion out of it for me. Seems so simple to trim to nature’s constant, instead of picking a trim “style” or do a little of this and little of that.

Glad it was helpful! I’ll keep doing the lessons as long as owners want them 👍

2 questions. 1) is rasping off hoof flare the same as chopping off toes? 2) what ‘treat’ (non-sugar) is ok to give a horse on a regular basis? ie: once a day?

Hoof flare, whether it is natural or unnatural including caused by separation needs to be treated separately, but never is there a time when the flare (or toe flare) is rasped back beyond the water line (inner hoof wall). For treats I use whole oats which are cheap and not highly processed. I don't feed in buckets, only use them when training etc :)

Can you show actual trimming before and after on a healthy hoof?
    Thank you.

We can indeed show before and after trims. If you go to our Hoofing Marvellous Facebook page and check out the photos section you'll find some before and afters too :)

What about NPA? Low heels? How can you trim to improve that?

    • @lindsaysetchell

It's all about balance. No horse should have an NPA, it was caused by incorrect hoof care coupled with incorrect balance.

Our research isn't published in any journal - however we continue to gather 100s and 100s of case studies and successes.
