The director Stephen sommers did DEEP RISING before this and it's my favourite creature feature it stars BENI as well as a Stella cast unfortunately the main star TREAT WILLIAMS sadly passed away in june 03 from a motorcycle crash caused by the car driver
Love this movie, and it's always cool to see people being introduced to this film. Check out the next on, it is also really good... and another good request, it's a comedy/thriller/mystery called the Nice Guys. I think yall will like it. Keep on keeping on!
Camel's run slightly slower than a horse. But camel's have an advantage in the design of their feet which spread out on the loose soft sand. Working much like a snowshoe in snow. Horses however fast can only keep up their max speed for just a few minutes before they become overheated and either die or go lame. And horses hooves are not really suited for the sand. Camel's can run at full speed for hours without overheating. So camel's are the superior mount to have in the desert.
Fun fact: There really was an ancient Egyptian high priest named Imhotep, and he had several other titles and roles as well. Imhotep (the real one of course LOL) was also an engineer, architect (having designed the step pyramid of Djoser), and he was most famous for being a physician. He was even deified after his death and worshipped as a god of medicine; very rare for a non-royal!
This movie pretty much perfected the swashbuckling adventure movie genre. A genre that is unfortunately very EXTREMELY RARE to find these days, and Brendan Fraser was the Goat during the 90s.
17:00 I looked it up, and the average horse can get up to 44mph in short bursts, and a camel can get up to 40mph. I'm sure a camel would have an advantage in the desert.
The Mummy Returns is just as good, if not better, than the first. Minus that awkward CGI version of The Rock at the end. Tomb of the Dragon Emperor has some awesome kung fu moments with Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh, and more wacky moments with Jonathan. The only problem is that Evie was recast, and the actress' chemistry with Brendan was nowhere near as good as Rachel Weisz. There's also a Scorpion King spin-off with The Rock, Kelly Hu, and Michael Clarke Duncan in his final on-screen appearance.
@@ajandselena i want to give us a little suggestion. Zoom on faces are not necessary, watch both reactions simultaneusly is totaly fine, for example : minute 8:00 we miss Selena reaction because the zoom. sometimes less edit is better
Brendan Fraser nearly died during a scene where his character is hanged. Rachel Weisz remembered, "He [Fraser] stopped breathing and had to be resuscitated." In one scene, Beni is shown with a sackful of gold which he is trying to load onto a camel. Beni pulls the camel by the reins, but the camel doesn't budge. The camels all, for some reason, hated Kevin J. O'Connor. Brendan Fraser was cast due to the success of George of the Jungle (1997). Stephen Sommers also commented that he felt Fraser fit the Errol Flynn swashbuckling character he had envisioned perfectly. The actor understood that his character "doesn't take himself too seriously, otherwise the audience can't go on that journey with him." Rachel Weisz was not a big fan of horror films but did not see this film as such. As she said in an interview, "It's hokum, a comic book world." Jonathan Hyde's close-up scene during the locust swarm had to be re-shot several times; he could not keep a straight face with so many locusts crawling all over him. When Evelyn reads the inscription "He who shall not be named" on Imhotep's sarcophagus, the hieroglyphs used are accurate. The inscription actually translates literally as "the one without a name." A mix of both lion and bear roars were used for the yells/screams of Imhotep and the soldier mummies during the climax. Stephen Sommers described his vision of the film as "as a kind of Indiana Jones or Jason and the Argonauts (1963) with the mummy as the creature giving the hero a hard time" The line "think of my children!" given by Beni in the scene aboard the riverboat was ad-libbed by Kevin J. O'Connor. Brendan Fraser did the hanging scene for real and passed out during filming. According to him, Stephen Sommers's only direction was, "Look good, don't die! (shove!) ACTION!" Despite the name, the title character was never mummified. His followers were, but he was subjected to a very different death. The white cat seen in Evelyn's apartment is given no name in the film, but in the movie novelisation the cat's name is revealed to be Cleo. Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Chris O'Donnell and Matthew McConaughey were considered for the role of Rick O'Connell. However, director Stephen Sommers maintained that Brendan Fraser was always the first choice. Cruise would later star as the lead in the reboot The Mummy (2017). British chat show host Jonathan Ross described the film as "Raiders of the Lost Ark meets The Terminator." The film's cast includes 2 Oscar winners: Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. Ardeth Bey is an anagram of Death by Ra.
If you go to Egypt, there are people with camels at the pyramids and they will offer you a ride. Don’t do it! It’s a scam. They will claim that you owe them a fortune for the ride. See if you can arrange it with a registered guide.
Seems a common misconception that camels can't outrun horses, but especially over sand they actually can, as their bigger feet don't sink in. _The_ _Mummy_ _Returns_ is a good follow-up with the same actors as this one, with good acting and script (though they really skimped on the CGI) that continues this story. The later pieces of the franchise: _Scorpion_ _King_ and _Tomb_ _of_ _the_ _Dragon_ _Emperor_ are not worth watching.
The lady commented a couple times in the beginning of the movie about the men's behavior. Do you not understand when the movie itself was made, and when the movie was supposed to be taking place? Some elements can be missed & others not appreciated when those things are not taken into consideration. I see this often when young ppl watch older movies. Just my opinion.
People are so weird, They want to watch reactions but tell you you talk to much? How are you going to express your reaction without words? I know, I know, you can't please everybody. Just seems silly to tell reactors to shut up. lol
Loved you’ll reaction, hope you guys watch the other movies, this movie, jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, and Lara Croft Tomb Raider made me want to become an archaeologist and paleontologist.
The Mummy is one of my favorite movies. I love Rachel Weisz as the brainy, beautiful leading lady, Brendan Fraser as the adventurous man of action, and Arnold Vosloo as the chief villain. Also, they did get the mummification practices correct when Evelyn described how ancient Egyptians removed people's brains (minus a slight omission): The embalmers used the hook to also punch a hole in the person's skull so the brain drained out when they were rolled over. And I always get jumpscared when Jonathan is toying around in that damned sarcophagus, no matter how many times I've seen the movie. Side trivia: 1. In the scene introducing her as Ankh-su-namun, model/actress Patricia Velásquez was completely naked with the exception of a loin cloth, a few pieces of jewelry, pasties & body paint (body paint took four hours to apply). 2. Brendan Fraser revealed on a recent episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” that he had a near-death experience during a stunt gone wrong while filming “The Mummy.” The Oscar winner said he was “choked out accidentally” during the scene in which he had to be hanged from the gallows in the Egyptian prison, which resulted in him being resuscitated by on-set medical personnel. 3. In the desert race to Hamunaptra, you see camels and horses. Horses are faster (on flat land), but camels are adapted to life in the desert. Even though they do eventually have to eat and drink, camels can live off the fat reserves inside their humps, their long eyelashes keep dust out of their eyes, and their feet are big and wide to keep them from sinking into the sand as they move. 4. After Evelyn unknowingly awakens Imhotep by reading The Book Of The Dead (which is actually a funerary scroll in real life) and the locust swarm flies into the encampment at Hamunaptra, the locusts crawling on the Egyptologist are actually grasshoppers that were refrigerated to make them sluggish. On a similar note, the scarabs in real life were merely dung beetles, not vicious flesh eaters.
The mummy put a spell on the civilians to turn them into his army of unwilling followers the weren’t responsible for their own actions they were possessed and they had the plague of Boils and sores and chanted Imhotep
Camels have webbed toes allowing them to move in the sand at a quick pace. Unlike horses who have hooves which sink in the sand slowing them down. Imagine trying to run in the sand in high heels
Some facts: Cats are not the guardians of the underworld. There is no quicksand in the Sahara Desert. Part from that its a great movie and I cant wait for number 4 to come out. They do. Their feet have a wider surface area so they can get more push due to the sand. Camels are also very smart and the whole water thing
RIP Winston aka Dr.Bombay from Bewitched TV show
It’s the dessert bro camels are 1000x better than horses in that situation
