These are perhaps my favorite knives EVER. I will never be convinced Opinel makes bad knives. They are traditional, classic, useful, charming and absolutely timeless. Hats off to them!
Bought the No eight a few days ago and was disappointed. The blade was dull, pitted and rolled over on the cutting edge. I guess they are lacking on quality control. Would not even shave the hair on my arm.
@@eastonvonschist2283, Sorry to hear that you were, are disapointed. It is maybe possible that the QC didn't do its job. Once sharpened, you will love it. Wich steel do you have, inox (stainless) or carbone?
@@eastonvonschist2283 I prefer carbone to stainless. Easy to sharpen. It could give taste with foodprep. You could leave the blade into vinegar. It will turn into a nice grey patina and is a bit protected from corosion and the metal taste with foofprep is not so bad anymore.
Fitzjames Wood my number 7 is nearly 19 years old and is my EDC so comfortable in my hand. Never leave home without it. Have just ordered the number 6 as it's the smallest one I can find with the Vibrolock
Never leave home without it, my trusty number 7. Been with me for the last 19 odd years. I have just ordered the number 6 and I am going to Learn how to sharpen this one properly and have also ordered a Lansky sharpening system
Of all the commercial knives there is nothing that can beat a traditional Opinel carbon steel bladed knife, with its beautifully contoured comfortable handle and simple and reliable locking mechanism.... it's design is truly timeless. Forge on Opinel, don't change a thing!
They can be the best FOR YOU. 😊 Surely they are AMONG the best, most popular and appreciated knives in the world. When you buy an Opinel, you buy History too, anyway.
I've lost my Opinel Carbon No. 8 in the woods a couple of days ago, my very faithful companion which served me for four years :( Already ordered two No. 9, one carbon with the beech handle ( Carbon steel's one has only beech handles I think) and the Inox Olive -to make a swap of the handles. The quality of Opinel Carbon blades is legendary :)
Great knives and also saws, I have had my no12 saw for 10 years and it’s still going strong. Top quality simple designs and very affordable, I absolutely love mine.
Bonjour ils y a des éditions limitées ils en avaient sorti un pour Christophe Colomb et pour le tour de France ainsi que la coupe du monde de football et aussi pour la révolution française cordialement
Love my Green No. 8. My favorite thing besides the style and feel of the Opinel is the ease of sharpening...even the stainless models. That flat grind makes it super easy to sharpen on my convexing block....heck it's easier than my convex blades. Can't wait to own a few more of these!
Now I see why Opinel can make such a great knife at such a silly low price... the steel temper is really good and they come pretty sharp out of the box.... a touch up with a fine hone and they are crazy sharp and hold an edge very well. I have a 6 for the pocket and a 10 in my "bug out" bag for general duties. I will inevitably buy more of these wonderful knives. I have expensive ones from Gerber and Spyderco, and yes they are nice, but the Opinels cut as well, hold an edge as well, are easier to use thanks to the handle shape and cost about 10% of the others. No one should be without one or two (or more) Opinels IMHO.
The perfect knife to cut Camembert is an Opinel, of course. I am not French, I'm from Romania, but I developed a passion for Camembert and other French cheese when I visited France several times. Camembert + French baguette + red wine = perfection!
An easy way to loosen the action on these wooden handles is to open the blade, and bake them in a 350 oven for 1 hour. I also rub a little olive oil on the handle beforehand, and it gives them a nice patina. Will never open hard again.

Great Knives. My No.8 still going strong after 43 years.

just wow! i didn' thought they could be useful that long! i just got my first Opinel today, so exited to have one of these legendary knives!
10€ = 43 years, that’s why that’s the best pocket knife

My favourite and only choice of pocket knife.
I seen some in a lumber yard when I was like 10 years old in Kansas. Thirty years later I finally got a No. 8. Shouldn’t have waited so long.

Exquisite knives. The history is much appreciated. -Thank you from Aurora, IL USA
Je suis rassuré de voir que nous pouvons toujours produire quelque chose de qualité en France
Or anywhere else for that matter🤔👍

They really should rebuild the first workshop as a museum shop that function and they make special edition blades there

Have a 4, 6 & 9 for everyday use. Buying an Opinel Santoku at our local shop this weekend.
Wonderful knife, I’ve carried one for decades
I love all my Opinel knives!
I like the NO 9 it goes with Me everyday whether slicing an apple or piece of cheese or whittling it's the way to go
That's exactly it. For me Opinel symbolise utility on the go. I carry them when hiking and use them to cut saucisson and cheese.

I love my number 8 Opinel. I’m using a small mag light flashlight nylon holder to carry my Opinel around.
This a Super story about super knives!!! I bought my 1st one in Paris summer of '19.
Great knives! The workers are doing a fabulous job!
Knife history is really interesting, all around the world has different models & whatnot 🤷 this is part of what I enjoy about knives.
My no.12 makes the perfect yard and garden knife!😀
Thank you for the video and subtitles. And a wonderful knife.
Great video…. Good Reference for me to know the history and buy my first Opinel. thanks
Great knife for processing food, and small utility tasks.
Wish I was sent one of those No8 boxes 🤗
I own a couple of them. I prefer high carbon steel, to nearly any other knife steel. Simple and functional to suit this Mountain man.
For 10 years of heavily using, Opinel N⁰ 9 is the most versatile for my hand, but N⁰ 7 I like the most.
mine was used to cut mainly bread, saucisson and camembert.

Great Video...I just got first three; #08 Carbon, #08 Olive Wood, and #06 Olive Wood. Nice !!!
The very fact this video even exist is why I buy Opinel. From a time before 400 dollar pocket titaniums.
Gotta love how they have newspaper on that table for testing the knives
How do you get one of those cool knife sharpeners that lady was using?
Testiment to beauty in simplicity
I Love opinels no.6 thru 9 are what I enjoy most! Carbone or inox are both great 🙂
Great knives I love then all!

ah, and it's French and not some thick murican accent, perfect! Adds to the atmosphere
What’s murican? Your hometown? Your old lady? Your speech impediment? Hm
kukuri007 If he is speech impediment, you’re brain dead amurican ;))🖕🏻
Was there no locking mechanism before 1955?
No....
Stamp a butterfly on the blade and these would sell for $100.
what is the name of the MUSIC IN OPENING?
4:01 Grandson of J.Opinel :))))
a real savoyard...
just ordered no 12 carbon
Thank you!
The best pocket knife in the universe!
I wonder what happens to all the test knives? They can send them to me. I would love to have them.
How lovely is that 😍
Las mejores navajas del mundo en mi humilde opinion 👍
Form follows function.
Just bought a opinex 8.
Mine is my everyday carry
I use my # 8 daily , my # 10 occasionally and my # 13 hardly ever . All carbon blades , of course . Only lazy people need stainless .
I don't like patina :(
tyfs i love opinel
no tattoos on any these folks❤
