Excellent video, I was at Gloucester this morning, and believe that the issue up until that point was the generator van cutting out and the train losing the electrical supply. Certainly before the 50's were coupled on, the ETH cables were plugged in between the 2 loco's, and then onto the stock. If one loco was hauling 13 plus a dead loco, and supplying ETH it would explain why the climb of the Lickey became such a stagger
Great video , steep hill and a heavy load , so hats off to the two class 50's , they don't seem to be able to rev very much while under pressure. @@antman09ful1 A special video that one and I used to live not far from there, and that's probably the slowest I've seen too. It’s interesting to watch. That’s nominally 5,400 bhp for 13 carriages which you’d have thought was enough. Also, I’m not there, you were, but just listening to them it doesn’t sound as loud as I remember them being when they used to pull out of Exeter St Davids - single engine with say 10 behind - heading up towards Tiverton.

Morning Julian, the RHTT had been up the bank only about 30 mins before the tour, and the tour did stop at Bromsgrove so they had no run at it. cheers Mike.
That was a heavy train. I remember the Royal Scot steam hauled with 12 coaches back in the 60s out of Preston and would have been assisted over Shap and Beatock. When the 50s were moved to be coupled up at Preston later the premium trains were double headed with the Class 50s; at the time the Railway Magazine commented that Beatock was easily climbed with the pair at Notch 4. The Lickey aint Beatock though?
In various early 1970s back numbers of railway magazines, there are timing logs from the likes of Cecil J Allen which recorded some brilliant [and not so brilliant] journeys. As Weaver-Glasgow modernisation got under way the double-fifties were diagrammed to take over said "premium trains" at Crewe, then indeed subsequently at Preston once the overheads were energised as far as there. My father travelled from Watford to Carlisle on business once during that era [1973 IIRC]; he was under the impression that the same "lecky" was powering the train and was astonished when he alighted to find diesels on the front. Shap and Beattock are a breeze compared to Lickey!
So why was the train going so slowly? Looks like it started out as a Christmas Express and ended up as a Midsummer Murders Whodunit Tour. I counted about 14 coaches on the train, but there were two locos. Were they underpowered?

@@antman09ful1 You give a somewhat typical reaction here. Every viewer of your video will see a different number on this loco than what you mention. It therefore seems only logical to me to respond to this. Your reaction comes across as rather bizarre as if everyone should know exactly what the numbers on this locomotive are like. Perhaps you should realize that not everyone dives into this matter as deeply as you apparently do. And by the way, that's not really necessary either, you could just get a bit more realistic!
I get where you are coming from with this comment sir, but the numbers are so big that you cannot make a mistake with the ID of the loco. Surly you must have given that some thought sir, and that others that commented did not mention it. @@antman09ful1 no way didn't know there was a line there, I've spent many a time up the hills need to find this now
Ok Paul.
GWR cream and brown... took long enough. Rainfanning teaches patience.😂👍
Thank you for watching.
fantastic vid
Thanks for watching, just had a look at your video at Tame bridge, I was going to go to New Street, pleased I didn't with them problems.
Oh dear, that was excruciating. Was this taken from Burcot crossing?
Don't know what you are referring to but the answer is no.
@@antman09ful1
The lineside location from which the footage was taken!
Amazing footage Mike, great job👍🙂 I wonder why there is so much dust going from under the train at 4:02🙄
Its not dust its a water spray to stop the trains slipping on the leaves.
@@antman09ful1 Ahaaaa, now it is clear for me, thanks for explanation😉
Sounds like they were not on full power so maybe they'd been slipping? Mind you, at a speed this low you can't really use full power anyway.
Yes you are right, I believe there was a problem at the bottom of the bank, and could only go this slow up the bank.
Thanks for watching.
I had no idea the Lickey Incline had been wired up.. are any electrics running on it?
Yes there is a train every twenty mins to Bromsgrove..
Fantastic shots Mike. I actually thought the RHTT added to it. Of course if it was a few moments later I may not be saying this haha
Ps. Wow did they sound and look good through WTO
Yes Ben I know agree with you about the RHTT now, but at the time no. BIT soon.
Those 67s could have gone up and down 5 times, and you still wouldn't get bowled due to their walking speed! Sounded good though, the old things. Best bit is for those on board it gave them more time on the Lickey than they imagined!!! Excellent 👍🏻
Oh yes that is a great way of looking what happened yesterday morning Mr Gallagher.
Thanks again for your interest in my videos. Mike.
They struggled alright but sounded amazing
It was an amazing sight I think matey, cheers for taking a look . Mike.
Fantastic clip there Ant but the lead loco is 50034 and not 50007. But otherwise a fantastic thrash despite the 67's near photobombing.
Thank you for watching.
Sorry Craig I must put you right as it seams you don't know much about this class 50 loco.
The number now and again gets changed on ONE SIDE of the loco.
It is 50007 Craig.
@@antman09ful1 So 50007 was masquerading as another classmate that has since long gone?
In my opinion should always been in green and Sir Edward!!!@@antman09ful1
has anyone pointed out its 50034 not 50007 at the front
Garry it has 50007 on one side which is the proper number for that loco, and 50034 on the other side.
125mph locomotives on RHTT??
Well yes you are right.
one must of been poorly , because there is over 6000hp there.
Well something wasn't right this morning Alistair, cheers for having a look.
@@antman09ful1 your welcome it was a good video 😊
Excuse me but why does the first 50 have 2 numbers??? 50007 and 50034???🤔🤔🤔
At the moment I can't remember, but if you look at all the comments I'm sure it will tell you.
@@antman09ful1 no none of the comments tell me I’ve gone through them?
Should we get out and push 😅
You are strong.
That is hellfire lol
It certainly was mate, thanks for watching.
Wonder if Hornby designers watch this so they can see the actual colour of a GBRf class 50
I doubt it Paul, cheers for taking a look.
They were proper struggling weren't they.
Oh yes, but its a sight we don't see everyday. Cheers for watching.
@@antman09ful1 no worries. The 50s out again in a fortnight coming to my neck of the woods. I got em today but the Sun went in a few minutes before they arrived.
They didn't go flat out in order to protect the engines - just like when you drive a vintage car
Thank you for your thoughts of what happened mate, and for taking a look. Mike.
Much better when it goes down ... lol
Yes Philip from watching my video.
Who owns the 50s
The Class 50 Alliance at Kidderminster.
@@antman09ful1 thanks but they do work on the main line not all rail tours, your Michael sandford my Michael sandford is blocked with strikes all because I said the word sausage it upsets the community guidelines people or Trolls Lol
Sorry Mike, but the first loc was 50034 and not 50007.
Yes from the side of the train I filmed it did say 50034, but on the other side it had its proper number 50007.
I'm sorry to say you don't have much knowledge of the class 50 locos that are running these day, but thank you for watching the video. Regards Mike.
Another number this loco has carried is 50014 but it will still have 50007 on the other side.
50034 was scrapped in 1991
Hope you had a good Christmas day, happy new year to you. Regards Mike.
07 was always Sir Edward!!!
Low Power mode,, Traction Control on max setting . Lol.😁👍
Thanks Ian for your thoughts on what the reason was on that morning.
034 & 049 long pull 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
On this day it was, thanks for your interest in my video.
Why put so many carriages on if the Diesel engines are not up to it? Is this how these trains operated in service - at walking pace?
The locos are well up for having that many stock on it, I believe there was a problem departing Bromsgrove Victor.
