I love this serene calm video. The topiaries look gorgeous and amazing. These are the sizes are need for my indoor topiary collection so thank you for this:)
I'm ashamed to say this, but I never thought about how simple it is to make a topiary! Brilliant! I always purchase them as topiaries. I cannot wait to integrate more into our home!
Yes! Ordinarily I’m not the obsessive type but I am with tabletop topiary. Watch out, you may soon find every horizontal surface from side tables to mantles covered with them... 😅🌳
@@VelvetandToads lol I'm not the obsessive type either but I am with topiary. It's so calming and so beautiful. Hello from Tennessee I just found your channel and I love all your topiary creations.
Welcome! I’m glad you’re enjoying them. I love Tennessee. I have an uncle in Memphis and friends in Nashville. It’s been far too long since I’ve been there. Due for another visit ✈️

Hi Luana, I'm a sucker for rescue plants too, and I love lemon cypress! I think what lemon cypress topiaries thrive on is attention. I traveled with mine all summer and fall, as we tried to stay away from the city. They seemed to adore the heat of Provence, the road trip over the Alps, and the balmy storms of the Basque country. I just hope I can pamper them enough to get them through the low light of Paris this winter now that they've been spoiled 😅
@@VelvetandToads my plants are all indoors now, too cold outside. They do seem to adjust but it takes about a week or so. Artificial light is not the same but they seem to manage till spring. I am sure yours will too.
I've never made live topiaries. I did make some artificial ones using moss, with gold thread entwined around the tops. At the base I used pretty river rocks, painting a few in each pot gold. I made them as centerpieces for a dinner at my daughters school. The committee that asked me to make the centerpieces were less than thrilled. LOL. I guess they were expecting silk flower arrangements. One of the ladies went around the tables and sprinkled confetti around them. Of course I cringed! I so enjoy your videos!
😂 Great story. Your moss topiary centerpieces sound gorgeous (I might just have to try that), but if the committee’s idea of a tablescape involved confetti, I can see the disconnect! 🎉
It’s surprisingly easy! But they’re fussy to keep alive. I’ve had two for over a year that I’ve taken everywhere. They survived day-long drives, train trips jostled in a bag, and crossing the Alps, but I took one day too long to water them at home two weeks ago and one didn’t make it, the other is struggling. They thrive on attention. Easy to make though. You just have to pamper them. Let me know how it goes!
Great question, and I wish I had another answer but here... They are terribly fussy and demand constant attention! Especially water as you’ve rightly pointed out. They are basically a Western form of bonsai. I water mine daily in the winter when the heat is on, and in the summer when it’s hot, and I check them daily in the spring and fall. If you’ve top-dressed them and can’t feel the soil (a good idea because it retains moisture), you can check by lifting them once you have a feel for how heavy they are wet or dry. I will sometimes soak them, but only for a few minutes as, despite loving water, they like to drain well too! This is the first time I’ve worked with this particular plant. The good news is it’s a lot more forgiving than lemon cypress. I recently clipped the top again and root-trimmed it to keep it in that pot a while longer, and it’s still going strong. I haven’t fertilized it yet but will probably do so just once in the spring. Hope that helps!

I get that same sparkle in my eye with the excitement of finding the perfect pot.
Wish I’d bought several, I have a bunch of starter topiaries in sad plastic pots on my Paris balcony right now!
Very meditative and relaxing and an original encounter between the sea, the waves and green plants. Nice angle.
Thank you, that's so nicely put. 💖
Super cute!! That rescue plant got full-on spa treatment 🥰 ...gorgeous
Haha! True. Glad you enjoyed it!

I love rescuing sad plants💕 if you find a lemon cypress , the are also very good topiary plants. They thrive on being trimmed...great video.

Where are you? Are you on vacation? Such a beautiful spot... 💛
Yes, on vacation last fall, or rather escaping to the Basque Coast of France, work in tow, to escape from Covid in the city 😅
I’d like to give this a try.🌳 Thank you for sharing your tips with us. Love from Louisiana, Jessica😘xo
Thank you Jessica, hope your house hunt is going well and that we’ll be seeing more from you again soon!
You inspierd me thanks

How do you keep the topiaries properly watered and feed? I would think they would dry out too quickly in the small pots. Please advise.
